Re: Summer transfer window
A team at the bottom can more afford a sick note player than a team at the top.
e.g. if Wilson was fit for 15 games for us he could help us get 5 wins, and those 5 wins could be the difference. We need difference makers.

Re: Summer transfer window
Wilson on a one year deal is a no brainer, in my opinion. We would need another striker we can rely on to be available more, for sure, but if you can get 20 games out of Wilson then he might be the guy who wins us 5 or 6 wins on his own with a winning goal or equaliser etc. I think that is worth a one year risk, maybe with another year in our favour/some security for Wilson (i.e, if we stay up and he plays in a percentage of games it activates etc).
He is as proven at this level as a club like us could ever hope to sign (aside from Walker!) - 239 games at this level, 88 goals. I won't judge him on last seasons output as he only started two games in the league due to Isak.

Given the injury record, I think I'd prefer Vardy if we were going to make this sort of signing. And I don't like Vardy.
Re: Summer transfer window
I read somewhere that Newcastle offered Calum Wilson a new contract and he turned it down.
Re: Summer transfer window
He might be looking to be a starter and he has been used as a sub at Newcastle.

Re: Summer transfer window
Les Ferdinand, whilst at Newcastle, had hamstring problems. They solved it by ordering him never to go outside the width of the penalty area. It cut down on his excess running and worked.
Possibly Wilson needs something similar. I’d love to sign him if only to stop him scoring against us but as he’s turned down a new deal at Newcastle I doubt we can afford him.

Re: Summer transfer window
given we will likely have to play on the counter that's a much better suggestion imho. Wilson is good at holding the ball up but from memory has lost most of his pace.
Imagine having Roberts, Barnes, Hannibal and Vardy

Nothing much on Twitter about Wilson, only the usual Burnley (and Leeds) should sign him etc.
Re: Summer transfer window
It always baffles me when people post things on here even though they know its more than likely untrue.
"In the know" is a well used phrase on here but some posters like other people to think that they are members of that club.

18 appearences. 0 goals.
I would prefer him over Barnes for example. But I would hope that we go for someone else.

Lot of 'ifs' and 'coulds'. Personally I'd stear clear of the likes of Wilson but of course my opinion means nothing.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 1:51 pmA team at the bottom can more afford a sick note player than a team at the top.

On the Oxlade- Chamberlain news more than a shake of the head needed when I read he's currently being treated in this country for an injury but would be willing to discuss future employment away from the club he is currently at.

Alex OC, has Nathan Redmond all over it for me. An experienced, talented player but one who is unlikely to feature much and give value for money.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 3:18 pmLot of 'ifs' and 'coulds'. Hard to believe he is 31. But he has rarely featured consistently (granted he has been at much bigger clubs than us in Arsenal and Liverpool).

Re: Summer transfer window
You would not be alone, I would have him back too. These are Ipswich stats with and without Muric, despite how much the fans attack him:
* With Muric - 18 appearances
* 12 points
* 6 draws
* 33 conceeded
* 3 wins
* Without Muric 20 games
* 10 points
* 4 draws
* 49 conceeded
* 2 wins
So they were far worse without than with. Also they faced a lot of big names and got draws from them during his time.

Re: Summer transfer window
I wouldn’t have Muric back but there is no doubt he makes world class saves but can then throw one in his own net. His comical moments for us were never as bad as some he had at Ipswich.
Unless Weiss is the chosen successor I would hope we are looking for better.
First choice obvs being Trafford stays and shows last season's form.

Re: Summer transfer window
I've heard rumblings of a season long loan with no option for a young Manchester based forward. In and around the first team, not a regular starter.

Zirkzee not a regular starter and 24 is young - doubt he will be wanted at Utd next season. 17 year old more probable!

Re: Summer transfer window
Hearing Wilson for WHU. I can appreciate the concern about his injury record, in particular hamstring, however when Wellbeck was at Arsenal no one would have touched him for the same reason, however in 5 seasons at Brighton 161 appearances and 37 goals. Because of his play I believe their captain at times

I mean, you'd also heard that Egan Riley was re-signing not long ago and prior to that, in January, we were signing Sessegnon and Manning.
Excuse me if I don't believe what you've heard.

McAtee has been heavily linked with a few Bundesliga clubs.
He didn’t impress me at the recent U21s Euros and he was captain. Anderson and Scott were the standout midfielders.

That’s not how I saw it during the u21 euros. Completely different players with completely different roles and skill sets.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 6:03 pmMcAtee has been heavily linked with a few Bundesliga clubs.

Scott was just playing the water carrier role and I actually found Anderson quite frustrating at times - decent player but more in there for his physical attributes. McAtee was excellent at moving with the ball, taking the ball in tight spaces and creating openings.
McAtee much the better footballer in my opinion. But like I say, different players with different roles.

We've had bids turned down by Salford for a young player who is highly rated. Would this be the player in question?

Fair enough. I have seen him have good games for City but surrounded by that talent doesn’t give a true picture. From the Euros I just remembering going to pieces in the box, poor final passes or bad misses. All opinions are fine.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Mon Jul 07, 2025 6:25 pmThat’s not how I saw it during the u21 euros. Completely different players with completely different roles and skill sets.
