The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
Went here for lunch today, a great place !
Bought by the locals and it's a credit to them, great range of hand pump ales and the food was excellent.
A really well looked after boozer with a signed framed Brownhill shirt opposite the bar.
If you get chance give them some support and pay a visit.

Ah Bodge… and my parents are two of those locals who pay in. It’s a lovely pub and is doing well. It’s so lovely to hear that you’ve ventured to the village where I spent the first eighteen years of my life. Lancashire really is beautiful you know!?
I swear you carry that red rose on your person (somewhere).
Glad you had a nice visit!

Concur. Make sure you take in Lumb Spout on the way up Bouldsworth
Re: The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
John - I was aware of your family proximity to the Trawden area, so much so that I was expecting to see a framed photo of you making a save at Madiham alongside the many pics of the Princess Royal's visit.
Bizarrely Taffy I was in the King Charles 1 in early May whilst in London, another fine establishment !

Re: The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
I found this pub by accident whilst picking up some stuff bought on Marketplace very close by. We've not been in for a while but I concur that it's a cracking pub.
The pub still gets mentioned pretty regularly though as I had the (mis?)fortune to hear what must have been close to the single worst ever karaoke performance in history, though in a strange way, it was so bad that it was actually brilliant.
I will definitely put another trip over on my to do list.

Indeed, indeed. No photos on the wall (that said it was a marvellous camera save). No absolutely nothing on display. That said, had you stayed over, you may have been fortunate enough to have been put in the Robertson Suite!!bodge wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:18 pmJohn - I was aware of your family proximity to the Trawden area, so much so that I was expecting to see a framed photo of you making a save at Madiham alongside the many pics of the Princess Royal's visit.

Exactly how karaoke should be. Good singers almost spoil itcricketfield73 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 11:27 pmI found this pub by accident whilst picking up some stuff bought on Marketplace very close by. We've not been in for a while but I concur that it's a cracking pub.

None of them wealthy as far as i know...just a community who got together to save their local....they just did the same with a cafe close by. Tight-knit bunch, very surprising considering where it is.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 12:41 pmBet that involved either more people or more cash.... possibly a combo of both

I was just saying to a couple of mates yesterday that this is the best pub near Kings Cross.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 9:48 pmI just met an old friend at a pub very near Kings cross station in London....he and other locals did the same thing, it's doing very well... In a similar vein this is a community owned pub up near the Spurs ground

Re: The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
420 ish people in the village (and beyond) invested, over half put in the minimum amount of 500 quid. Irrespective of the amount invested, it's one shareholder, one vote. It needed an additional loan from Key Fund (who support community pubs) to get it over the line but that is now close to being paid off.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 12:46 pmNone of them wealthy as far as i know...just a community who got together to save their local....they just did the same with a cafe close by. Has it changed much? Can't imagine it's gone upmarket! Used to have a tape recording that was done in there in the 60s of 2 old blokes chatting in Trawden dialect. Not easy to tell what they were saying. Although played it to my grandad and he had no bother!

I’ve no idea: never been in it in my life, nor have my parents. We just live a little further on so have seen many frequenters over the years, heading in.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 10:52 pmHas it changed much? Can't imagine it's gone upmarket! Probably 25 years since I went in. Place fell silent and they looked at you like you were from another planet. Only lived near Heiffer Lane!!

Unbelievably I lived near Colne cricket field for 17 years and never went to Trawden. No car in the 50s and 60s.

Need a certain kind of area, without being a snob. You wouldn't have fancied doing it for, to pick one example, the Rose and Crown on Manchester Rd.....
Re: The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
Great community ,all pull together. They run a carpet bowls competition every wednesday morning for the locals at the community centre which is always well attended.

That was a pretty warm welcome for Yorkshire, to be fair.
Re: The Trawden Arms - Support Community Pubs
It's been decorated and the seats have new covers. Think they bought some new dominoes too a few years back.

Did it used to be The Rock, or was that another?

Working for a pub chain now, and several semi linked pubs are struggling.
Unless food based or have a strong community really struggling.
Hate to think in 20 years where we'll be
