I don't think we are as bad as we used to be. Some of the offers were we made were insulting. Even we laughed at them. The thing about this is that Newcastle know we aren't going to budge much as this has been going on for ages. It must be getting tedious now if they keep phoning and adding another fiver. We can't be on the phone to them all day as we have signings to make and players to get rid of

Reporting on the Traff situation journalists especially NE based are saying Traff wants to leave Burnley. I don't recall him actually saying this.

Weiss and koleosho wouldn’t need to be registered in the 25 man squad, I’m sure tchaouna wouldn’t need to be registered as he will only be 21 when you submit your squad, so based on your list of 28, that would put you at 25Conroy92 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 09, 2025 11:38 pmWe should be aiming for (and included a few rumoured targets to see what it would look like)

Remaining strikers including whichever one of Amdouni or foster you chose to go.
That's what I think we should be aiming for- trimming it right down and bringing quality in key areas. It's 28 players so you would need a couple of under 21's (not sure if anyone for us in that list qualifies) but if Stassin came in up top that's two other spots we would need players under the age of 21 in at a maximum. Moving Green and Hladacky on could be good business if we could get an up and coming 19/20 year old keeper as a third team choice so relatively cheap in. Then if we need the remaining spot I'd look at moving Benson and Tresor on with maybe some young prospects coming in out wide.
Seems a lot of business still to conduct but that's a bit of a an ideal window really and I would be pleased if we were close to that. But we should be aiming as high as possible. I have absolutely no idea on budget but judging off so far I've gone for it a bit too.

Newcastle live in an alternate universe where they're a big fish. Stay here and commute from Manchester or move to Newcastle. Well if he has agreed terms with Newcastle, it would suggest that he does want to go to Newcastle.

He quite likely does want to go to Newcastle. Bigger club, European football, significant pay rise, no affiliation to Burnley......Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 10, 2025 6:20 amReporting on the Traff situation journalists especially NE based are saying Traff wants to leave Burnley. Re: Summer transfer window
Never been a fan but caused us problems when he came on against us last season. He’d improve the overall strikers department but I’d like him to be one of a couple of attackers we sign and ideally move foster on.
Re: Summer transfer window
I’d be delighted with Sargent. He’s a cracking player. Puts himself about and can finish.
Re: Summer transfer window
Sargent is a good all round footballer but I worry that in the PL you need to be either an exceptional all-rounder or you need to be very good in a specific area to make a big impact.
If he did sign I'd support him and want to be proved wrong but he's one I'd prefer we passed on.

strangely, Sargent reminds of the Chris Wood signing. similar age, similar fee, similar player. Runs the channels, can finish, links play well. Will be delighted if he turns out like Wood!

Yep. Its a comment that's kind of a given, taken from the fact that Traff and his agent have agreed personal terms.Darnhill Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 10, 2025 8:54 amWell if he has agreed terms with Newcastle, it would suggest that he does want to go to Newcastle.

No Traff hasn't outwardly said he wants to leave and I agree that he doesn't seem to be the type that would but the fact those terms are agreed implies that he is happy to leave Burnley for Newcastle
Re: Summer transfer window
Trafford has been pretty open about wanting to leave last summer and even admitted kicking up a fuss around the training ground.
I very much doubt anythigns changed in regards to wanting to go to Newcastle, especially now his mate has gone.

If Sargent is costing us between £16-18m, I’d like to think we’re looking at other options. I seem to be in a minority, but I don’t really rate him.

“It was just when an opportunity and a situation you think suits you can happen, you should take it, and you should try and go for it, so I wanted to move. It was close, but it didn’t end up happening.
“The manager was brilliant throughout pre-season. I wasn’t the best, I was moody because I’m young and I wanted to move, but at the moment, I still worked extremely hard.
“I knew the longer it went on, the reality became I would be playing the first game of the season, and I wanted to play. I told the manager I’m available if he wants to select me. If not, I’ll sit on the bench, but I’m available. He played me the first game, and that was it.”
You don’t half read some agenda driven tripe on here. Trafford’s comments on last summer.

Re: Summer transfer window
That price is getting you 15 goals last season and 16 goals season before at a good level, last 2 season 55 games 31 goals.
Who else do you suggest at that price with a similar record

And before you say “wages” , we’d also have to pay Sargent wages.
I’ve seen enough of him over the years for the national team to know that he is not a Premier League player.
He “came on” against a Championship side and “looked physical/ caused us problems “.
Problem is, our main striker is going to need to start against Premier League teams and score goals.
I mean even Brownhill scored 18 goals.
Re: Summer transfer window
Not that I’m suggesting it changes his thinking, but 12 months ago he’d just come off the back of a very difficult season with the prospect of the Championship before him. Now he’s just had his best ever season and is guaranteed to start Premier League games for Burnley. Ok, his best mate isn’t here but he’s not at Newcastle either, he isn’t guaranteed to start for Newcastle either. So it’s a very different situation to last year.

Re: Summer transfer window
Me either.
I do accept the arguments that he’s perhaps better than what we have and that he’s been very consistent without being stand out (say, 20+ goals) in the league below, though.
I just don’t see it as a significant enough improvement that we need for the reported price. It would be a big chunk of our budget spent on a good Championship striker.
Expecting he’d stay if we went down though, Sargent and Flemming would be a very good pairing at that level.

An unknown from abroad who may or may not work,
A crock like Wilson?
Or somebody who has scored a good number of goals, in a good league in this country?

All about opinions isn't it.
I rate him, and hope he signs. But I get it why others think he won't be up to it.
Time will tell, if he signs.
I also think it's sensible to think if we do go down, we very likely come back up, with him and Flemming.

Re: Summer transfer window
I've said earlier in the thread that I really like Sargent, his work rate and unselfish play will be ideal for a club in our position.
The modern front lines don't tend to have an out and out goalscorer who bags 20+ goals and my hope would be that he creates the space for other to chip in, of course we would hope he can hit 10+ goals himself.
My only issue is the reported fee, I can cope if there are stipulations about staying up etc, so we pay nothing like the £16 million initially.
I would be pleased if he signs for us though, he's a good player.
