I hope not after his last two PL sackings.

Re: Summer transfer window
He was our most effective attacking player when we were last in this division. I think Anthony and Edwards were class last season and I hope they step up, but we have no idea because look how many didn't last time. I think it's a worthwhile addition because he is someone we know can get decent numbers for us. Put it this way too, he's not replacing Anthony/Edwards - he's probably replacing Benson out of the current squad.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:09 pmWouldn’t say disappointing just a strange one.
Does he get in front of the other players we have? Really not sure

Re: Summer transfer window
JBLs goals were generally him arriving into the area at exactly the right time. We keep speculating about our wingers playing as a 10. He is the most suited to the role.
Although I still hope we sign a goal scoring CF with Flemming in the 10, if we even play a 10.

I fear us making the same mistake as 2 year's ago re too many wingers/too lightweight a team. JBL is fine, but is not what we need atm.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:12 pmI just don’t understand signing another winger from a squad size purpose.
Koleosho being u21 means he doesn’t take up space anyway
Where are our goals coming from?

JBL still has 2 years left on his contract, so not necessarily cheap, but such a solid signing for us.
Very happy if it is him.

Re: Summer transfer window
We don’t have to make signings in order of squad needs. It may just be that this deal is easier than others to complete and others will follow. I’d agree if the window closed today we would be too short in other areassummitclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:17 pmI fear us making the same mistake as 2 year's ago re too many wingers/too lightweight a team. Re: Summer transfer window
If its JBL it'll be underwhelming in the respect he wouldn't improve us in his position with the sheer depth we have on the wings. Don't get me wrong he's a good player but its money wasted when it's clear we need midfield reinforcements and a proper striker.

Re: Summer transfer window
Those two inside right and left roles behind the striker are becoming the most crucial in the EPL, when we think of the title winners in the last decade the players in those roles are often vital. I’d suggest that teams who stay up and kick on tend to have good players there too, like Brentford, West Ham and Forest.
So we need 2-3 players for each of those positions in case one struggles or gets injured. JBL would be a really solid addition in that regard.

People suggesting Berge are showing a massive lack of knowledge if they think there's any chance of him coming here. He's more likely to go to a top 6 club than to us, had a fantastic season for Fulham.
Also people's expectations are way too high if they are disappointed at JBL coming into the squad. Versatile, experienced, hard working and scores goals. It's a no brainer.

Re: Summer transfer window
Yes, are we going to have another team of strangers? We need room in the squad for 2 starters in cm and a least 1 starter striker. These will be expensive unless loans. Why waste money and squad places to bring in a 7th winger?

Zero chance of Berge and JBL is a good, smart footballer. Just need to make sure sensible price and that we keep him if we go down.

JBL doesn’t excite in his general play but like Brownhill has the priceless ability to score goals. And unlike Brownhill has done it at Premier level

Precisely my thoughts-outstanding for Fulham, and he kept his place all season despite the quality they possess. Will be a lot of clubs kicking themselves they did not buy him prior to him signing for FulhamGoliath wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:34 pmPeople suggesting Berge are showing a massive lack of knowledge if they think there's any chance of him coming here. Re: Summer transfer window
We lacked firepower last season, JBL is capable of contributing to that both with dead ball situations and in open play. Would give us more experience and depth for as and when the younger lads drop their form or pick up injuries.
Just because we sign this position doesn’t mean we aren’t bringing other positions also. It doesn’t work in order of area of the pitch

Re: Summer transfer window
Is it JBL?
I'm assuming if you don't respond then it is

Re: Summer transfer window
Without naming names and breaking your insiders confidence is it JBL?
Type 1 for yes
Type 2 for no
We won't say a word
Re: Summer transfer window
The profile of wingers like JBL and Tchouana are more suited for attacking on the break, at pace. And if we're switching to a back 5 like has been suggested, this doesn't necessarily suit Anthony and Edwards who prefer to receive the ball, out wide, to feet. It's going to be interesting seeing how we line up, whether we have a settled formation or regular changes.
Re: Summer transfer window
What a difference. Everyone was upset when he didn't want to sign after relegation. Now, they are underwhelmed if it is him.
Re: Summer transfer window
It's David Edgar for midfield.

Re: Summer transfer window
Is there not a rule that says a player can't play for 3 clubs in 12 months (excluding loans)?
Re: Summer transfer window
Maybe the other day when allegedly Newcastle representatives visited the Turf the fee for James Trafford was sorted out subject to us getting a replacement.
So my final guess is that this signing if it goes ahead is a goalkeeper.
Maybe as someone else mentioned on here it is Turkey international Çakir

Unless Parker sees something in Edwards or even Tresor maybe to play more central as a number 10.Mattster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 3:08 pmThe profile of wingers like JBL and Tchouana are more suited for attacking on the break, at pace. If we are looking to soak up pressure and break with pace then for me koleosho needs to be given then chance again

I don’t think there’s a prayer he starts Edward’s on the wing this year. He’s not strong enough defensively. Not to say he’s lazy, he works hard, I just don’t think he’s physically best placed for the up and down needed in that position.
Sub towards the end of the game, maybe, I’m not convinced he’ll start on the wing. In the 10, maybe a starter.
Tchouna & JBL for the RW role in my view.

Re: Summer transfer window
On the Newcastle thing, surely the bare minimum is Pickford’s base fee of £25m in 2017 plus inflation, which on checking Bank of England stats means £33.5m.
That is before we even consider if Premier League inflation is higher. Any less than that I’d not pick up the phone, and I’d be clear with the player’s agent too.
On the above Edwards comment, I don’t see us playing “wingers”, more a 5-2-2-1 where he would play in that position he played in Lisbon. Walker and Hartmann would give the natural width. We need Edwards where he does damage and causes panic, which is in and around their box without defensive responsibilities of note.

If we're switching to a back 5 then there isn't really a 10 because usually it's 2 inside forwards and a striker in a front 3. Those inside forward roles are the ones you would say are the ones that our wingers will be competing for.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 3:21 pmUnless Parker sees something in Edwards or even Tresor maybe to play more central as a number 10.
