From the Bee Hole End - Sean Dyche special - tomorrow
Just a bit of a shameless plug for a special episode of From The Bee Hole End podcast out tomorrow.
We sat down with Sean Dyche tonight to chat all things Burnley (and a little bit about Oasis!). Obviously biased but I think it's a cracking chat with subjects such as the European season, transfer budgets, Ben Gibson, Vincent Kompany, Scott Parker and more!
Out in the early hours for those on a nightshift/living in the US!

Sounds brilliant. Looking forward to listening.

Bet he goes back to his default defensive block on the Kompny topic after the media exaggerated his previous comments.

Great listen, the only slight thing was Dyche trying to say we didn’t spend any money once we got into Europe. We spent best part of 15m each on Gibson and Vydra who were nothing but squad players

An excellent listen, I still think very highly of Sean and everything he did for us. My all time favourite Burnley manager

Just watched it. Really enjoyed it. How fortunate were we to have Sean Dyche as our manager for almost ten years?

He’s continued his rather odd memory of people’s reactions to signings.
People were asking why we signed Ashley Barnes? My memory is we were desperate for another striker.
People questioned the signing of Wood? Didn’t happen.

Not sure why he feels the need to do this.
The vast majority of burnley fans love him and appreciate everything he has done for the club. What he did was incredible and his place in history is secure.
For some reason he loves to remind people that in the first few months at the club there were some fans who wanted him out and like you say that fans were questioning his transfers.
When Ashley Barnes signed I do not know a single fan who was not happy. He had not long before he signed for us scored a couple of unbelievable volleys for Brighton and we needed players. In terms of Chris Wood again most of our fans memory of him is that great goal he scored on the Turf for Leicester.
There are so many positive things he can say about his time at Burnley I just don’t get the little digs at the fans. Have a dig at the chairman if you want as obviously that was a difficult time and it’s good to hear his version of events.

Re: From the Bee Hole End - Sean Dyche special - tomorrow
I wouldn't get too bothered by little anecdotes like that, about who questioned what. Everyone on podcasts / after dinner circuits has their catalogue of stories to fall back on, he's said the same sort of stuff dozens of times.
But however he - or we - remember 'the noise' as he would call it, it's irrelevant compared to the facts of what he did for the club over 10 years. He did well out of it too, no doubt, but we were very fortunate to have him.

Regarding him saying certain signings were questioned (Barnes, Wood), I got the impression members of the board questioned him, not fans.

That’s how I understood it when we were chatting to him Winstonswhite. It was the board that questioned him, not the fans.

He's always had that little bit of paranoia, ever since those dreadful performances in his first season. He seems totally think the world was against him at times.
Top manager though.
Would be an interesting poll, if you could go into this season with Parker or replace him with Dyche which would people prefer and make us more likely to stay up.
I'd be very tempted to go with Dyche.

I’d take the Dyche from 6-8 years ago.
I think he’s a very different person now.

Great watch/listen that. In my 50 years as a claret Sean Dyche is without doubt the best manager we’ve had and I’ll always have a soft spot for him and be interested in what he says/does.

Re: From the Bee Hole End - Sean Dyche special - tomorrow
A Dyche of 5/6yrs ago would probably keep us up for the first season
The issue would I don’t feel we would progress under him now after the first 2 years
The way of the game now is you’d need a hybrid of the two managers & styles

Yes well done guys for putting that together. I know Daz will be close to him from both Burnley and Everton but even so, good work.
He seemed not a fan of the new owners and the new way of doing things, didn’t get into it too deep but it was obvious he disagreed with much, and with Kompany. What he didn’t get teased out was whether the blend of pragmatic Parker and bigger overseas spending is a good one? Probably a new approach for the Clarets.

He's a legend but he's gone a bit too 'Jeremy Clarkson', for want of a better term. Good get for the show, but nothing new - just rehashing what he's said in other interviews.
The SD of 10 years ago is a different bloke to today's SD, imo, who's been huffing his own farts for too long.

Weirdly, despite the myths, I liked the look and feel of it. This is nothing new, by the way.
I got hammered for saying it at the time, but I liked the podcast from the start. You don't have to use short words all the time and they can mix it up and be effective from back to front.

I do remember the Wood signing being questioned as we'd just sold Gray but still had Vokes. Wood didn't feel like the Gray replacement a lot felt we needed.

Great manager for us but the bloke is a complete d!ick. Within 5 seconds he was getting a dig in about style of play. Thought he came across as quite patronising at times whilst also just plainly making things up such as criticism of the signings of Barnes and Wood. Darren Bentley calling him gaffer all the way through was cringeworthy beyond belief.

From what I was told by club employees at the time. He'll have had that drilled into him. I believe Dyche didn't take kindly to not being addressed as gaffer. He's probably scared to call him anything else now!100percentclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 1:49 pmGreat manager for us but the bloke is a complete d!ick. Re: From the Bee Hole End - Sean Dyche special - tomorrow
He has a dig at the media over their constant negativity about our style of play if that’s what you mean and quite right too! The constant downplaying of our achievements because of our perceived ‘long ball’ style was incredibly boring and, let’s face it, a source of great annoyance to many on here as well.100percentclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 1:49 pmGreat manager for us but the bloke is a complete d!ick. Re: From the Bee Hole End - Sean Dyche special - tomorrow
He's become a bit of a parody. David Brent/Alan Partridge/Jeremy Clarkson all rolled into one. Comes across as bitter and I've never found him funny but that's a bit more subjective. No denying he was great for us. No-one ever envisaged a decade in the Premier League. Burnley in the Europa League is almost as surreal as it gets, even if the team selections, performances and subsequent signings were a huge let down.
But time's caught up with him quickly and I don't see how he fits in with the game at present.
None of that's digging out the pod by the way! Great booking.

Love that Chris Boden hasn't thought to move his camera position. At that angle he looks like a hairy thumb.

He brushed over the europe question, I bet the players who got us there weren't best pleased at being on the bench.

I don't usually have the patience to sit through that type of thing but that was good, enjoyed it a lot. You gotta love Dyche, put us back on the map and kept us there. There won't be anyone like him at Burnley in the modern game, not in my lifetime, that's for sure. As for his head, probably fell off his wallet and banged his head
He looks like he's put on a few lbs as well........the good life

Re: From the Bee Hole End - Sean Dyche special - tomorrow
He was absolutely right to bench them. He was looking at the big picture, the players weren't. We didn't have the depth and if we'd have gone through to the group stages I think there's a good chance we could have gone down

What so on the chance we might go down, We should just throw in the towel in the first round? As a “younger” Burnley fan that was biggest moment in my claret fan career qualifying for Europe but dyche like his attitude to the cup comps really didn't care

He didn't throw it though did he? He rotated the squad with other first team regulars, he didn't just throw in the youth team.
Also but for poor finishing we'd have gone through, we were excellent against olympiakos.
Also you as a fan also weren't looking at the bigger picture. We were too emotionally invested to see that as well.
Why would Dyche throw it, European success was what he needed to get a big job.

That was great - thanks for sharing.
Not sure what Darren Bentey added but at least he wasn’t sharing his political views!
As above- we owe a lot to SD- transformed our club.
SP has well and truly earnt our respect as well and deserves a fully backed shot at the premier league. However if the circumstances were different Dyche should always be welcome.

The likes of tarky and mee should have been left at home if they weren't playing, it's the travelling to away games that does it, no wonder we had an abysmal record after a European away game.
