Against Div 1 Reading
Re: Summer transfer window
I agree with you that we need 2 midfielders but got a funny feeling Parker feels Laurent could do a job in there if needed. Going off his size and physicality alone you’d look at him and say he could make the step up but obviously technically he is some way off top flight standard. Wouldn’t be my thinking but if Parker thinks he can just break play up, win the ball back and give it easy to a more technically gifted player could be a decent back up to the first choice lads. Time will tell of course.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 8:32 amKeeper to replace Trafford when he leaves
Cajuste to replace brownhill
Eriksen or oxlade-chamberlain to provide experience in the middle
Sargent
Then we have a pretty solid squad to give it a right good go

Re: Summer transfer window
One of the most frustrating things last season at times was the inability to play the simple pass after doing all the hard work. Both Brownhill and Laurent were guilty of this.
Laurent isn’t going to keep us up, we need two central midfielders to compete now Brownhill has gone

Yes, a game against Division 1 Reading that finished 1-1 at 90 minutes, and took a piece of magic from a knackered and unfit Tresor to unlock the defence and provide an assist for Flemming on 100 minutes.

Given all the monies Mike has had that's one seriously expensive assist
Don't get me wrong I will be delighted if he comes good this season.

Right now you wouldn't be far off course in some sort of most expensive footballer ever qualification without return considering the initial outlay & wages. He'd be on that listWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 11:33 amFao Steddyman

Re: Summer transfer window
We are forgetting that before his assist, he created a golden chance for Barnes on the 90th min before ET.
Anybody who knows there is two O’s in football, knows the lad has talent!!
I guess we have a lot a supporters who don’t know there is two O’s in football!!

Surely he's a had a lot of input? The player will have already been on the list, but I very much doubt we'd have signed him if it didn't also tick all Parker's boxes too.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 8:06 pmI do wonder what, if any , input SP has had in this signing

Re: Summer transfer window
I worry that JBL is adding padding to an area where we really don't need padding (even though I actually rated him higher than most in his first spell) when there are other areas like centre forward where we could well be found wanting (imo)

Your missing the point entirely. Is this July/August 2023 all over again? Winger winger winger. Massive gaps elsewhere in the squad and few places left in the squad.ollieclarets8 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 4:22 pmOnly 6 weeks before the season starts. I certainly don't think I am. People are over-worrying with 6 weeks to sign players and ship players out - many of which happen at the end of the window, especially with loans.

There is time but there's no denying the earlier you get your ducks in a row the better prepared you are for the season ahead increasing the likelihood of success.ollieclarets8 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 4:42 pmI certainly don't think I am. This is a worry. We always seem to hoover up any wingers and forget about strikers.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 4:34 pmYour missing the point entirely. Is this July/August 2023 all over again? Winger winger winger. Massive gaps elsewhere in the squad and few places left in the squad.

Re: Summer transfer window
And it looks like we are bringing in the players who will be in our squad earlier than we've managed to in previous years. I imagine we are pretty clear on who we intend to move on and I'm sure most of the players concerned will be equally clear on their position. The only real challenge is if we lose a key player to a bigger club late in the window but in reality there isn't a massive amount we can do about that.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 4:51 pmThere is time but there's no denying the earlier you get your ducks in a row the better prepared you are for the season ahead increasing the likelihood of success.

Re: Summer transfer window
Various strategies to fast track implement I don't know the exact intricacies of the trafford shebang (I've never claimed to) but it's bold & risky holding out for more money off newcastle which may be fruitful or not & delaying elsewhere. It's almost as if that could be potentially stalling matters elsewhere if the funding isn't available.Bacchus wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 4:58 pmAnd it looks like we are bringing in the players who will be in our squad earlier than we've managed to in previous years. Re: Summer transfer window
Personally I feel we have completed some very good business at minimal cost.
We have signed six players on top of the four obligations from last season.
Four of those six improve the team immediately with more quality and three have previous Premier League experience.
The defence is sorted with 3 keys areas improved.
As been mentioned above the wingers/number 10 players are there in a abundance but we also don't know who is staying.
If we keep everyone else then there are only 2 positions to strengthen, which is a quality central/defensive midfielder and a quality striker.
Still plenty of time to sort that out and I'm asuming the club are well on their way to doing just that.

Re: Summer transfer window
Our “wingers” getting some stick. When Alf Ramsey won the World Cup with his wingless wonders it changed football. All the wingers became midfielders. Our own Gordon Harris, Willie Morgan and Ralph Coates became three of the very best. Doug Collins was one also at Grimsby.
The fact is they are just very good footballers that can adapt. SP will keep the ones he wants and ship out the rest either on loan or permanently. I’ll leave the decisions to him.

Re: Summer transfer window
What are people worrying about ?
We have two wingers in Koleosho and Tchaouna who are raw, young and need protecting from time to time.
Two others in Anthony and Edwards who we aren’t quite sure yet if they will make the jump up, even if they do an injure means we like pressure on the younger lads.
Then we have JBL who’s been here and done it before, is a full international and can play all across the front line.
Add to the Mike Tresor who may well stay and add to the options. This gives us plenty of scope to chop, change and adapt styles from game to game or even in game .
We struggled to score last season in the championship, don’t you think we need more options to create now we are going up another level?
We will get a striker this summer , and central midfielders .

Would be weird, with us playing a game earlier today and Parker saying we got through with no issues. Can't imagine there'd be much, if any, training after a match, just recovery work.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 10:37 pmDidn’t want to create a thread for it but on X there’s a few accounts saying Amdouni has suffered a serious injury in training

Yet again you come for me on this page, for absolutely no reason. You have a strange obsession/issue with me.
I remember you trying to call me out when I posted a link to Amdouni going to benfica as the account only had 100 followers and a week later he signed for benfica. You kept quiet for abit then

Does not read like he had an injury.
Carlos. Absolute unit. Sign him for that reason alone. Affordable as went to Turkey for €10m.

Carlos is one I would avoid. His last season playing consistently was 21/22. We already have Tuanzabe. We need to get 2 CM's and a Striker as a priority.
