Had to laugh earlier in the week when the umpire gave what was probably the most 'Wimbledon' crowd address ever, something along the lines of...

"Would spectators kindly refrain from popping champagne corks when the ball is in play"

I don’t like the ‘quintessential British-ness’ of Wimbledon.

The competitors are phenomenal but the ‘celebrities’ turning up for a photo opportunity as if they actually give a **** about the tennis is vomit inducing.

They have water stations all over the ground to fill your empty bottles up with as much water as you can drink!!!

Bottled water is daft.

So what do we do? Celebrate our intelligence and appreciate what we have achieved, basking in gratitude, wonder and safe, clean drinking water?

Nope. We bottle water in polluting plastic bottles. Trundle them around continents, countries and up and down the world -in polluting trucks- taking up resources, creating mountains of waste and burning tonnes of unnecessary fuel. Then we sell this pointless product at 1000s and 1000s prices above the tap water.

Also, surprisingly most people think the 'use by date' on water bottles is for the water. A common misconception.

Not seen much of the men's tennis this year but the final is actually quite entertaining.

The traditional “Summer Season” of British sports featuring events such as Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta and Cowes Week are as much about fashion and style as they are about sport. The places that the aristocracy and well to do want to be seen enjoying such occasions. As you say, a display of Britishness however much it may rankle with some.

Evian were selling refillable water bottles with unlimited cold Evian refills for a fiver, that's what they ran out of.

There were also a lot of places where you could refill a bottle for free with some bog standard water.
