Wimbledon ran out Evian water(today (one of their sponsors) how can that happen when every man and his dog knew that a heatwave would last the whole tournament i bet the “royal box” didn’t run out of water probably drinking Champagne anyway, instead let the working class suffer You probably needed a bank loan to buy a bottle Absolutely Pathetic

Did they not have water stations or taps where you can fill up your bottle?Tackler49 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 7:01 pmWimbledon ran out Evian water(today (one of their sponsors) how can that happen when every man and his dog knew that a heatwave would last the whole tournament i bet the “royal box” didn’t run out of water probably drinking Champagne anyway, instead let the working class suffer You probably needed a bank loan to buy a bottle Absolutely Pathetic

Re: Wimbledon
Had to laugh earlier in the week when the umpire gave what was probably the most 'Wimbledon' crowd address ever, something along the lines of...
"Would spectators kindly refrain from popping champagne corks when the ball is in play"

Re: Wimbledon
I don’t like the ‘quintessential British-ness’ of Wimbledon.
The competitors are phenomenal but the ‘celebrities’ turning up for a photo opportunity as if they actually give a **** about the tennis is vomit inducing.

Re: Wimbledon
Bottled water is daft.
We invented an intricate system of pressurized pipes that provide safe, clean water all over the country and every single modern industrialised country - a marvel of design, ingenuity and back breaking labour. It’s a wonder of the ages effectively banishing the toil that kept our descendants in serfdom as well as making many of the diseases which frequently killed them effectively extinct.
It’s so efficient the cost of a glass of water is completely negligible.
So what do we do? Celebrate our intelligence and appreciate what we have achieved, basking in gratitude, wonder and safe, clean drinking water?
Nope. We bottle water in polluting plastic bottles. Trundle them around continents, countries and up and down the world -in polluting trucks- taking up resources, creating mountains of waste and burning tonnes of unnecessary fuel. Then we sell this pointless product at 1000s and 1000s prices above the tap water.

If that doesnt get a thousand likes, you’ve been “done”…
Re: Wimbledon
Well done Rowls you hit nail fully on head but isn’t it part of the Wimbledon hypocrisy that some people just won’t drink tap water it’s only for the commoners

Re: Wimbledon
Also, surprisingly most people think the 'use by date' on water bottles is for the water. A common misconception.
Not seen much of the men's tennis this year but the final is actually quite entertaining.

With everything wrong with this country at the moment, a bit of quintessential Britishness isn't a bad thing on occasion.

Re: Wimbledon
The traditional “Summer Season” of British sports featuring events such as Royal Ascot, Henley Royal Regatta and Cowes Week are as much about fashion and style as they are about sport. The places that the aristocracy and well to do want to be seen enjoying such occasions. As you say, a display of Britishness however much it may rankle with some.

Evian were selling refillable water bottles with unlimited cold Evian refills for a fiver, that's what they ran out of.Tackler49 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 12, 2025 7:01 pmWimbledon ran out Evian water(today (one of their sponsors) how can that happen when every man and his dog knew that a heatwave would last the whole tournament i bet the “royal box” didn’t run out of water probably drinking Champagne anyway, instead let the working class suffer You probably needed a bank loan to buy a bottle Absolutely Pathetic
There were also a lot of places where you could refill a bottle for free with some bog standard water.
