Summer transfer window
Re: Summer transfer window
Johnstone would be a good short term Trafford replacement on the assumption that the price is reasonable and we've done our homework on Weiß and have the long term locked in. Can't say I know anything about Weiß so no idea if that's the case.
Not sure Diego Carlos is what we need in a further CB addition, would want someone more dominant. Charlie Cresswell would be my preferred one there. If it's a loan then I suppose it's lower risk but seems unnecessary to add another CB if they're not really improving us.
Sargent is basically a better, more natural 9, version of Flemming (when Flemming is playing as a striker) so would make a lot of sense for slotting right in. Wouldn't want to spend £20m on him though.

Makes me laugh when people say Sargent isn’t worth £20m when he was the best number 9 in the league last year. The same people want £40m for Trafford and £50m for Esteve.

Re: Summer transfer window
Lots of reasons for this, primary being we're a PL club now. If we'd not been promoted you'd be looking at £25-30m for Trafford/Esteve. Other factors too, Esteve is on a longer contract than Sargent. Both Trafford and Esteve are younger than Sargent. Neither has Sargent's injury history. Trafford will count as homegrown for any PL side playing in European Competition etc.

We’re taking a hell of a risk with injury records so far.

Difficult to believe we are in for him with the defenders we already have , must be Turkish press nonsense.

Beyer more than likely loaned out to get match fitness.
The remit is PL experience and physicality, he can also ping a pass better than Egan Riley.
Lets be honest with ourselves, if he hadn't had the injury he wouldn't be signing for Burnley, Villa signed him for 26 million euros.
We just need to stay in the division, these are just the types of player that will do just that.....the caveat to that is that he obviously must stay fit.
Its a risk worth taking IMO.

Re: Summer transfer window
Diego Carlos would be an interesting signing. A beast who struggled at Villa and his Sevilla form seems in the past. But at his best he is fairly quick, tough, good header, leader. Would be perfect alongside Esteve in that sense.
Our transfer strategy reminds me of the quote from Game Of Thrones “cripples, ba***** and broken things”. We seem to be going for players of a reputation we could never normally get but whose past means we can get them. Whether it works we will see, logic suggests some will work out and others will not. Certainly it is a risk but young and expensive is too for different reasons.

Re: Summer transfer window
Would take Johnstone in a heartbeat. Very solid goalkeeper. Would be my second choice of GK signing behind Pope tbh.
If that is the price for Sargent and we want him I would imagine we will probably pay it. Decent player.

Indeed we seem almost “ Vinny like “ with wingers . Though I’d imagine the 2 of the likes of Tres/Benson/Kole will move on .willsclarets wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 8:01 pmIt's an odd one for me given who we have wide:
Tchaouma
Anthony
Koleosho
Edwards
Tresor
Benson
Even if Benson and Tresor leave, we have two for each wide spot. But at the price he's decent cover, amd was definitely one of our better attacking players for a spell under kompany. I just can't see him getting much game time.

Re: Summer transfer window
Can see Tresor playing as a number 10 especially if Amdouni is injured.
Benson will be sold which means 4 wingers which is what we require and Tresor can step in if required.
Tresor's stats as a number 10 are virtually the same as his left wing stats : Played 71 - Goals 15 - Assists 22

You have noticed that our number 10 under Parker has generally been responsible for leading the press and is probably the most physically demanding role in the side?billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 2:14 pmCan see Tresor playing as a number 10 especially if Amdouni is injured.

Re: Summer transfer window
Yes but you also need to create chances, we won't be able to sit in and soak up the pressure, Amdouni isn't exactly known for his workrate.
That being said, he won't be able to saunter around, he wlll have to earn his place.
The quality is there, a bit (more) patience is probably required from all parties.

To receive circa £3 million for Massengo and Costelloe is more than I would personally have expected and again very good business IMO.
Especially bearing in mind we have brought in 4 PL quality players (Hartman included) for circa £12 million.
It all helps.

Medicals are external, at least in the large part for obvious reasons, given the equipment and expertise needed. Not to mention the independent, external evaluation.Chester Perry wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 12:44 pmI am pretty sure that the medical (including physio, rehabilitation and psychotherapy staff) have changed numerous times in that time frame - what has been retained as institutional knowledge is a huge unknown

Brilliant business and what I expect the club will be looking to do with other players and part of the reason why we carry a large squad.

Both deals also have add ons and bonuses.
Our transfer department is light years ahead of what we used to have back in the day, and even more recently.

Re: Summer transfer window
You can imagine a scenario where this year we sell 4-6 fringe players and make £10-£15m profit. That will massively help with PSR and given we’ll always earn a lot less than the big clubs, help narrow the gap because we certainly won’t be drawing that income from other sources like commercial.
I think if we can do 2-3 seasons of doing decent numbers from fringe player sales, fans will become much more comfortable with the size of our squad.
Re: Summer transfer window
