Marc Cucurella, (is the player) just in case you were wondering.

I swear Cucurella has his long deliberately so it will get tugged

Absolutely disagree.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 8:40 pmI think the women’s game as a whole is heading to a bit of a crossroads.
It’s getting pushed hard but the interest just doesn’t seem to be following.
I also think the recent antics with Villa and Chelsea regarding PSR also make a complete mockery of it.
Does anyone think something needs to change to get the interest levels increased?
The women’s game is strong and growing. It’s not about converting the fans today, it’s provision a platform for the future.
My ten year old daughter HATES watching her brothers play, even her twin. But, she adores the lioness and loves watching United. She’s a fan for life.
It needed the financial uplift to make it viable for those little girls who are blocked off by boys football.

I had both on a double screen. Cole Palmer was the stand out player of my screens. Good to see PSG stopped. They looked a shadow of themselves, after all those trophies.
English women beat a not very good Wales team.
Women not very good. Goalkeepers hopeless.

Hey Coolclaret I very much appreciate your points, as I have a young daughter and would someday like her to enjoy football.Cooclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 11:26 pmAbsolutely disagree.

However, the WSL has a major issue and people need to talk about it. The viewership figures are down 35% this season, and the attendances at stadiums are also down (that is if you remove the one of big derbys where they get good turn outs). Interestingly the game does well on TikTok though.
The chairmen Dawn Airey was on the radio the other day talking about growth and how they are struggling to get broadcasters to pick up the WSL games (last season saw a 10% decrease in the number of games shown live). The viewership figures is making it difficult for broadcasters to keep showing it.
Like I said earlier I think the women’s game is at a crossroads, it needs something to increase the interest/views.
I’ve seen a few ideas to increase interest, like showing the WSL on terrestrial tv rather than sky, Bt sport etc….
Or make smaller pitch’s so the games seem faster.
That’s why I asked the question, what suggestions do other people have. I’m sure there are some really viable routes

I don’t think there is a market on TV, but it needs TV money to grow.
It’s a perpetual loop. There isn’t the ritualistic behaviours built into the female psyche yet.
Men have a well honed pattern of behaviour towards football. MNF, Saturday lunch times, Super Sundays, Championship and Champions league during the week and so on…
FNF and SNF are still alien to us and feel ‘strange’ at the moment. That’s where women’s football is.
They need to leverage those slots that sit outside men’s football. I am a firm believer in having women’s games on before men’s.
It helps the clubs and integrates the games.

I used to think he was cleverly winding up the media. I don't now, I believe he is completely disinterested in off field matters because they are too complicated for him. His footballing brain is top class though and he is a super player.Goalkeeper wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 10:28 pmCole Palmer didn't come over very well in the post match interview. In fact he was embarrassing.
