I can't imagine the scouting and recruitment team is in Portugal.
Ok ill bite
The management team team are in Portugal
The medical team are in Portugal
The media team / photographers are in Portugal
Sufficient numbers away that any incomings are unlikely to be signed / sealed / delivered / revealed whilst they're away

I'll bite as well

Every one of those events can be completed whilst the team are in Portugal, just like many other teams sign players whilst they are away, in fact we've even done it previously

I very much doubt any hold up in transfers occur because the squad are in Portugal. It would be ridiculous for a Premier league club to have insufficiency human capital in the UK to complete signings that may keep you in the top division

I'm not worried if Sargent goes to Wolfsburg for 16m. That's the type of money we can afford, so if we've not got him then it's because we've got a better option. The club know more than anyone that we need a new CF.

The original point was that it had 'gone quiet' - i'm not suggesting things aren't happening - i'm speculating we won't hear about them till all those away return - hence why its quiet

2 of our main signings have come out of nowhere with nothing being said about them until a few hours before confirmed

I prefer it to be “quiet”

Why would the Burnley FC scouting and recruitment team be involved with the takeover of Espanyol?
They wouldn't, but as we know from the documentary they do not make the final decision and negotiations, Alan does.

We signed players last time we went away to one of these camps. But we weren't also negotiating the purchase of another football club at the time.

As the takeover of Espanyol was announced early this week, you could logically assume that it was complete end of last week - around the same time we bought Bruun Larson. So from a timing point of view it wouldn’t explain why things are slow this week.

And I’m also fairly sure that Pace would trust someone like Matt Williams to sign deals off knowing the parameters of how much wiggle room we have with fees, wages etc.

It’s pure speculation on your part because you haven’t seen any links on Twitter and nothing seems close at this point. But, as they’ve already shown us 3 times this summer, they seem to be doing their business quietly where they can. The fact it feels quiet this week means nothing.

Our targets will have been decided months ago

The player negotiating team are nowhere near Spain or Portugal

If a deal is close, a phone call to Mr Pace is still possible, just like he wouldn't be in Burnley every hour of any transfer window

I cannot believe we’re having this conversation five days after our last signing! Are we expecting a new arrival every 1-2 days else assuming the club are distracted?

Some might suggest rushed. Anything transfer related is notoriously difficult to keep a lid on increasing the longer something goes on because the very nature things are leaked to encourage signature competition.

The wheeling and dealing involved in moving our "fringe" players will necessitate the recruitment team staying put in Burnley. Its one huge exercise

Alan Pace is in Portugal, watch the latest YouTube video at the game they are playing at the end, he’s involved, so the bed wetters can relax about him and the scouting team being in Barcelona

Who would you loan though? I'd only want to loan someone if they had the possibility of being a useful player for us in the future- if not we need to sell them.

So they have to be not good enough for us but good enough for them, and also possibly of use to us in the future.

Ramsey maybe? I can't see many of our squad that fits that profile.

Please guys, change up the routine and learn some new material. A bit of imagination would go far.

Maybe Tresor and Beyer as well? In all cases, good players but maybe the physicality of the Premier League is not the best place to support their recoveries from long term injury?

But maybe this is precisely why we haven’t arranged loans - in case better options or bids come in for players.

There may also be options where some would benefit from being part of a squad with better chance of game time from the bench. Banel? Sambo? Obviously moves where they would start would be preferable.

Not sure on his reliability. I have seen him link us to a few that never get mentioned anywhere else or since.

Also, you would assume we are combining scouting with Espanyol, so he could be scouting players for either team.

The player was on loan at Cagliari last season and he joined them permanently on 1st July on a 4 year deal. Maybe we were interested before he signed on permanently......

I wouldn’t have thought us being away would make any difference. We’ve signed players before while the squad has been on pre-season away. Jutkiewicz, Cork, Rodriguez, Pieters and Muric all come to mind.

They’re all in Portugal so SP can assess them.
For instance Connor might not fancy being bench RB at this stage of his career so one of Sonne or Sambo might be looking for that spot. There is competition for most spots so they are all in SPs headlights.
Then we’ll learn who is leaving temporary or permanently.

Forgot about Sambo. We currently have 5 right backs then if we include Tuanzebe.

From the looks of all the photos and videos, sambo looks to be one of the senior players that isn’t there, along with Trafford, Dodgson, Humphreys (injury related?) churlinov, Benson and Obafemi

They don't have to be in Portugal to be assessed you can do that back at gawthorpe. For all intent & purposes everybody will be on some sort of an holiday which they are entitled to do but let's see it for what it is.

Going away as a group is a massive part of pre-season.

Team building/bonding, squad assessment and fitness amongst other benefits.

Perfect opportunity for players to show sp they mean business and want to be involved. Some players have only just come back from pro-longed summers too.

I get all that. But in pure footballing terms there's nothing unique in portugal that gawthorpe doesn't offer that's the point I was driving at. Parker is at no disadvantage in assessing at either location.

I get all that. But in pure footballing terms there's nothing unique in portugal that gawthorpe doesn't offer that's the point I was driving at. Parker is at no disadvantage in assessing at either location.
Absolutely but it’s not hard to imagine that sp and his team will leave Portugal with a clear picture of the squad make up he wants and what holes need to be plugged. By default it also draws up the sell/loan player list and those fringe players will then know where they are.

…. Which all of which could have happened in Padiham but they’ll be one or two who impress or whose personality shines through whilst away that surprises sp in good and bad ways.

In purely footballing terms you are correct but these pre season trips aren’t really about the football side, clearly it is part of it but the main focus will be team bonding and building etc which you can’t get when you have the family distraction if at home.

It's a holiday however you sugarcoat it which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

It really isn’t and I knew that’s what you were getting at.

It’s full on mentally and physically. The footballing equivalent of a boxers pre-fight training camp without the bashing of beef in the meat freezers a la rocky!

It’s a bit like calling Paces recent Barcelona trips holidays.

I've never worked that hard on a holiday, plus if you've ever seen footballers on holiday, in no way shape or form is this a holiday for them
