Apologies, Andrew Leeson not Lawson. Unused sub Notts Forest (A) 21st April 2003. Mark Rasmussen got on the pitch that day.

Re: Name the most obscure Burnley player
Andy Leeson the full back and Andrew Waine were both on the bench at the end of 2002/03, both for three of the last four games. Neither of them ever got on the pitch for the first team.SkiptonClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 17, 2025 9:47 pmApologies, Andrew Leeson not Lawson. Unused sub Notts Forest (A) 21st April 2003. For anyone who used to collect those football cards that came in packets with bubble gum from the early 1970s - David Wilson
There's a whole host of goalkeepers who had fleeting Burnley careers - Rod Jones, Jeff Parton, Tony Norman for example
The latter went on to be a Sunderland regular

On Phil Ray see p2 of the thread. Kennedy had potential but was blighted by injury

I used to regularly see him in the chippy at the top end of lyndhurst road (And Adie Randall lived at the other end)

Had the "pleasure" of seeing both... Caughey was constantly offside. Jones was a giant who when he jumped for the ball he appeared to be shorter than if he'd just stood still. He was statuesque.Culmclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 16, 2025 3:45 pmSome stiff competition David Jones just gets my vote for the worst I ever saw

Re: Name the most obscure Burnley player
Was present for Tony Woodworth's one and only game in goals. Poor lad. 6 nil defeat at home. Still say it was my fault. It was my 13th birthday and insisted on the whole family going to the game with me. The joke was that my mum was banned from Turf Moor after that (although she did go to the Orient game)
I'll throw out some other names:
John Smyth- came from Liverpool and looked fantastic in the friendlies and reserve games I saw. Don't think he ever played in the first team.
Tony Parks- Euro Cup Winners Cup winning GK with Spurs who played a few games.
Derek Parlane- former City player. Not sure if he ever played a first team game proper.
Phil Murphy- played in the Orient season- seemed to score every game I saw him, yet in the days of no social media it was a bit of a mystery why he didn't play more. Anyone know the story? Maybe he was crap, looked good to me back then. Especially away at Blackpool in whatever cup that was. I was too young to fully appreciate tbh.

Tony Parks, if I recall correctly, won a medal at Burnley with our U21s or whatever they were called at the time.Hanoverusaclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 11:03 amWas present for Tony Woodworth's one and only game in goals. Tony Hancock.. looked to be a real talent… he wasn’t.. was just a gobby overrated player who probably thought he was better than he was… sold him back to Preston I think

Re: Name the most obscure Burnley player
Wayne Dowell
I used to play at the Thompson Centre for Junior Clarets as was and in about 1993 we were all very excited to be told that a couple of Burnley players were coming along to watch us and give out awards. My hopes of David Eyres, Steve Davis and Adie Randall were dashed by the appearance of Wayne Dowell (who at that point I don't think was even in the first team) and John Mullin who had perhaps played a handful of games. I was only about 7 or 8 so I can't remember much of him except he had curly blonde hair and was left footed.

Just remembered Billy Wright. 1 appearance: in the ill-fated Group Cup match at Wimbledon in 81/82.
