BFC partnership with X

Post by FeedTheArf » Fri Jul 18, 2025 8:08 am

https://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/con ... artnership

Reading between the lines I’m assuming this will be a continuation of the Vertu Motors type content they’ve been releasing every few weeks throughout last season.

Seems more like the replacement of our Sky Documentary series but this time streamed on X Originals.

I'm sure someone has weighed up the pros and cons of partnering with an organisation that so many people find to be morally objectionable but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Honestly, there will be so many posters biting tongue, itching to post something negative about this, be interesting if they resist the urge to.

Why would anyone be feeling the need to bite their tongue? I think it’s a bad thing. Are you going to tell Elon?

They won't resist, yet most of them will use X, even if it's just clicking on a transfer rumour on here

It’s aimed at people who daily have something negative to say about the club, about everything they do.

Out of curiosity why do you think it’s a bad thing?

It’s problematic, but all the main football news and content remains on X.

If that’s where most fans are still going to engage with football, it’s not hard to understand why the club have chosen to partner with them to increase exposure.

There’s no bigger demonstration of the quandary than The Athletic promoting it’s article on why the deal is controversial to its 1 million followers on X.

Because it’s a platform which is repeatedly in the news for all the wrong reasons, namely its controversial and increasingly erratic owner’s propensity for fiddling with the app to the point many now find the bizarre algorithm and total lack of moderation enough of a reason to stop using it. Judging by Musk’s recent behaviour things are only going to get worse and weirder and I can’t really see any major benefits of our club being associated with it when they do.

I really don’t like Musk, but (apart from that one ‘salute’ which probably wasn’t actually a Nazi salute) which of his actions are you using as evidence of him being a Nazi? He’s a deeply unpleasant individual but I doubt he’s an actual Nazi.

Are you really that naive to think it wasn't a Nazi salute? Steve Bannan made the same salute not long after.

I don't even think they're trying to hide their Nazi sympathising any more.

Nazi adjacent is probably more accurate.

I'm getting the feeling this thread will be shut down soon. When it may be useful to continue it, just to show how divided we are, when deep down we're just clarets supporters. People are getting unnecessarily wound up.

I used to really enjoy using Twitter / X for #twitterclarets, but I came off it last year for the reasons mentioned above. I found my timeline was being filled with divisive content that had nothing to do with who or what I searched for. I was getting drawn into black holes of vitriol and hatred, if only to laugh at some of the ridiculous things posted by people (or more likely bots), but it just became a very unpleasant way to spend time. I strongly urge people to take a break from it these days. To lift their heads up and actually see what is happening in front of their eyes, not on their artificial screens! I'm not sure Burnley FC partnering with X is a particularly positive thing, but it certainly offers publicity opportunities if used correctly.

One of the weirdest things about X and Musk if you create an account the first recommendation to follow is his account, he’s such a loser

It was certainly a power thing, but even if it was, the salute wasn’t really the main problem with Nazism and i’ve seen nothing to suggest he subscribes to their philosophy, in fact his stance on free speech is very much the opposite of what they were about.

Just to make it clear again, I think he’s a deeply unpleasant man who I’d be happy to see fade into obscurity, but he hasn’t really done much to make me think he’s a Nazi.

That maybe true but if you just stick to football and your own interests, there is no better place . Some of the info and data you can get from X is unparalleled.

It can be a really good platform if you just stay away from the "for you" tab.

This is great exposure

And by using the same extreme logic those who love use the gambling sponsors like yourself will surely be putting out the bunting ?

Surprisingly enough most people are pretty balanced. They may not like gambling sponsors or X and can see the harm they do in society but also kind of accept that it’s part of the modern game / world.
Whilst social media platforms like X clearly have their positive attributes anybody who cannot see the harm they have also done to society or that their founder is a dangerous fruit loop is pretty deluded.

ALK promise FSD (Full Sean Dyche) is definitely coming next year.
We only play on the Right wing.
All pre-season friendlies to be in Poland.
The players to run around with Boring on the front of them.
Scott P and the players to go onto the pitch to celebrate staying up and Musk to elbow them aside and announce that he did all the work.
All incoming transfers to be racist bots.
Goalkeeper to be randomly fired midmatch in a cost/waste cutting measure. "He's just standing there doing nothing."

“There are also talks underway about live-streaming Burnley pre-season games on X”.

This would be handy.

Quite surprised we’ve not developed the partnership with TikTok given I thought that’s what all the kids used.

Also quite shocked that this is just with XUK. I would’ve thought there’s limited benefit to the club in increasing engagement in the UK. It’s increasing reach abroad I’d think we could drive some tangible impact.

But well done to the club for trying something new and maintaining behind-the-scenes access to the club for fans. We’ve been pretty blessed with that in recent years. One of the things I think the new owners have done brilliantly, which is often overlooked.

The very same thing with me. I felt I needed to be informed and not lost in my own echo chamber but the stuff I was seeing was increasingly becoming more extreme, nasty and more often than not downright lies.
It actually became quite depressing. I’ve come off it and feel much the better for it.

That maybe true but if you just stick to football and your own interests, there is no better place . Some of the info and data you can get from X is unparalleled.

It can be a really good platform if you just stay away from the "for you" tab.

This is great exposure
There are things I miss about Twitter, and as a platform it could be undoubtedly be fun, engaging, helpful and positive in many ways. Unfortunately Musk bought it purely as a means of facilitating corruption, subverting democracy and offering a platform for those with questionable views and agendas to push propaganda and misinformation. I, like many others, cancelled my account a long while ago because I didn't want any part in supporting or enabling that.

I've no doubt that the club's angle on this is the exposure it can get from the platform. I think the association with the rest of it is a shame and overall this is a bit of a PR gamble.
