Anthony was consistently a better performer than Koleosho last season.
He’s obsessed with stats. They mean **** all.

I know I’ll get pelters for it and I’m clearly in the minority - but I’d be willing to give Phillips a chance. In fact, I think there’s a potential bargain to be had there.

Anthony deserves his starting place this season on the left.

Josh Brownhill has been offered serious money by Chicago Fire. He's in Chicago now. Good luck to him, I think we'll miss him.

Crikey, 29 and going to the MLS!

Good luck to him, he’s been an excellent servant, but I’m not convinced we’ll miss him at this level to be honest and part of me is glad we’ve not committed to the huge wages it’d have taken to re-sign him.

Great captain and if we go down we’ll definitely miss him a lot.

I see Popey was doing his best to push through an NUFC deal for Trafford today:

Short sighted if he goes there for the money. I think his career at high level will end a lot quicker if he goes there now so the extra money he makes in the short term will probably turn into a loss eventually. Especially when including all of the expense moving will involve.

If it's a lifestyle move then fair enough.

Chicago - the windy city. You can the man out of Burnley but you can’t take burnley out of the man.

I think he’ll know that this is his last ‘big’ contract. If he gets 3 years he’ll be nearly 33 when the deal ends.

He could probably get a big contract here too. Might not be as big but more likely to stay at a high level after it or even end up with a potential.coaching role with us.

I was hoping Brownhill would come to Toronto FC, Chicago and Toronto are similar sized cities, both have a similar climate, both on a massive lake. Both pay in USD, all Toronto based sports teams pay in USD and have to offer compensation over the going rate due to higher taxes and constantly clearing customs which is a pain in ar*e. Crime rate is the major difference, in 2024 Chicago recorded 521 homicides, Toronto 86  Toronto isn’t the city it once was, but I know where I’d rather live and play football.

I doubt he’ll be living anywhere in the south side of Chicago to be fair. Likely to be the Gold Coast which is a bit safer.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that most of the murders don't involve exceptionally rich sportsmen living in the leafy suburbs or city centre penthouses.

I was lucky to visit Chicago on a work trip a few years ago and found it to be a really cool city. There was very much a ’make sure you turn left out of the hotel, definitely not right’ vibe about it though.

He'll be a star in that league.......i saw my first [& last] MLS game last weekend @ LAFC
I wasn't expecting much but the standard was really poor & very little physicality at all.

Hugo Lloris was the only player i recognized....i don't think he had a save to make.

Hi G, what's all this about?
"Especially when including all of the expense moving will involve" I've no idea what sort of money Chicago Fire may be offering. Let's, for simplicity, say it's $100,000 per week. How much of one week's wage do you think JB will be spending to move to Chicago - or Toronto, or Istanbul, or anywhere else there's been posts that he might be moving to? (Always assuming the new club doesn't pay sone of relocation expenses).

If I were a City fan I wouldn’t be thrilled swapping Ederson for Trafford, given his performances in the Premier League last time.

He has developed into a much better keeper in the last 12 months with obviously even more potential to get to the very top.

Ederson agrees terms with Galatasaray.
Galatasaray and City in negotiations over transfer.
Looks like Alan Pace not budging on Trafford's fee, may be about to pay off.
The next few days will be interesting and will certainly define our transfer window, one way or the other.

Newcastle have backed themselves into a corner with this, very poor negotiation tactics, trying to play hard ball when we were always likely to have a more obvious option.
From the outside Newcastle have missed out on 4 or 5 of their top targets. Somebody is obviously not very good at negotiation. I accept that they are tied by PSR, who isn't, but I'm sure they could afford Traff if they really wanted him. It's a fine line, but the Geordies are always on the wrong side.

From February onwards, yes. But only after being played in every single game (starting all but one) up until that point, mostly on his favoured wing and for 90 minutes in the vast majority of games - something not afforded to any other forward/winger in the squad.

Believe the Newcastle negotiation team that arrived at Gawthorpe a few weeks ago got a bit carried away in the miners on expenses.

That’s just not being genuine Mattster

Every man and there dog could see that Koleosho had lost a yard and struggled right from the very first game.

Anthony wasn’t spectacular first half of the season but he was still performing better than Koleosho.

It’s not to say Koleosho won’t improve but to suggest Koleosho should have started ahead of him last season is just insane after the stinkers he threw in.

I wouldn't be worried because Trafford would not be playing with the shocking defence we had and Kompany as manager. There was little wrong with Trafford's performances in the PL. The problem was too many UTC posters were besotted with that clown Muric and over exaggerated how Trafford was performing.

Anthony was undroppable once he moved to the left. Consistently one of our best attacking players, and won us quite a few points.

He really didn’t. In the PL I observed him on numerous occasions making a token jog back to assist his full back, it really was unacceptable at times. That lack of workrate and discipline was tolerated at times by VK though, and the reason it was so clear to see was probably due to the preceding years watching the total opposite under Dyche.

Like I say, he improved this side of his game last season, but most of his off the ball work was pressing in the opponent’s half rather than ‘tracking back’.
Some posters really aren’t worth replying to. Goliath posted that Koleosho work rate managed to get him in the team ahead of Koleosho.

From February onwards, yes. But only after being played in every single game (starting all but one) up until that point, mostly on his favoured wing and for 90 minutes in the vast majority of games - something not afforded to any other forward/winger in the squad.
Anthony was playing well before February.

Nobody was hung out to dry or terribly handled by Parker.

It's a desperate attempt to criticise both Parker and Anthony.

How anyone can critise SP or Anthony who gave 100 % every game is beyond me.

I wouldn't be worried because Trafford would not be playing with the shocking defence we had and Kompany as manager. There was little wrong with Trafford's performances in the PL. The problem was too many UTC posters were besotted with that clown Muric and over exaggerated how Trafford was performing.
No. Trafford was shocking. Even in pre-season they had 2 games each, Muric kept a clean sheet against Benfica and made saves Trafford cost us a goal in both of his. The season started with the defence in front of him having no confidence in him and he didn’t help matters with his performances. Thankfully he showed his true potential last season.
From CTs reports:
Genk.
The goals came at the beginning and end of the game. Genk were in front as early as the eighth minute when James Trafford, making his first appearance for the Clarets, appeared to misjudge a cross from Mike Trésor and it led to Anouar Ait El Hadj having a shot deflected off the line with Yira Sor to score from close range.

Real Betis.
The second half was only six minutes old when the Spaniards equalised. Substitute Marc Bartra took a free kick on the half way line. It caught out James Trafford, hit the woodwork and rebounded onto the Burnley goalkeeper for an own goal.

You’re talking about a set of fans who have wade elliott pelters months after scoring one of the most important goals in the clubs history

Seriously you are bringing up a couple of meaningless friendlies ?
Probably one for the Trafford thread but feel free to highlight his ‘shocking” mistakes which cost us goals in the EPL and let’s see whether they compare to the ones Muric made in the EPL for Burnley (and Ipswich)
