I know I’ll get pelters for it and I’m clearly in the minority - but I’d be willing to give Phillips a chance. In fact, I think there’s a potential bargain to be had there.

Good luck to him, he’s been an excellent servant, but I’m not convinced we’ll miss him at this level to be honest and part of me is glad we’ve not committed to the huge wages it’d have taken to re-sign him.
Great captain and if we go down we’ll definitely miss him a lot.

I see Popey was doing his best to push through an NUFC deal for Trafford today:

Short sighted if he goes there for the money. I think his career at high level will end a lot quicker if he goes there now so the extra money he makes in the short term will probably turn into a loss eventually. He could probably get a big contract here too. Might not be as big but more likely to stay at a high level after it or even end up with a potential.coaching role with us.

I was hoping Brownhill would come to Toronto FC, Chicago and Toronto are similar sized cities, both have a similar climate, both on a massive lake. Both pay in USD, all Toronto based sports teams pay in USD and have to offer compensation over the going rate due to higher taxes and constantly clearing customs which is a pain in ar*e. Crime rate is the major difference, in 2024 Chicago recorded 521 homicides, Toronto 86claretlegend wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 8:32 pmJosh Brownhill has been offered serious money by Chicago Fire. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that most of the murders don't involve exceptionally rich sportsmen living in the leafy suburbs or city centre penthouses.exilecanada wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 9:39 pmI was hoping Brownhill would come to Toronto FC, Chicago and Toronto are similar sized cities, both have a similar climate, both on a massive lake. I was lucky to visit Chicago on a work trip a few years ago and found it to be a really cool city. There was very much a ’make sure you turn left out of the hotel, definitely not right’ vibe about it though.

He'll be a star in that league.......i saw my first [& last] MLS game last weekend @ LAFC
I wasn't expecting much but the standard was really poor & very little physicality at all.
Hugo Lloris was the only player i recognized....i don't think he had a save to make.

"Especially when including all of the expense moving will involve" I've no idea what sort of money Chicago Fire may be offering. Let's, for simplicity, say it's $100,000 per week. How much of one week's wage do you think JB will be spending to move to Chicago - or Toronto, or Istanbul, or anywhere else there's been posts that he might be moving to? (Always assuming the new club doesn't pay sone of relocation expenses).

Re: Summer transfer window
Ederson agrees terms with Galatasaray.
Galatasaray and City in negotiations over transfer.
Looks like Alan Pace not budging on Trafford's fee, may be about to pay off.
The next few days will be interesting and will certainly define our transfer window, one way or the other.

From the outside Newcastle have missed out on 4 or 5 of their top targets. Somebody is obviously not very good at negotiation. I accept that they are tied by PSR, who isn't, but I'm sure they could afford Traff if they really wanted him. It's a fine line, but the Geordies are always on the wrong side.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 18, 2025 6:33 pmNewcastle have backed themselves into a corner with this, very poor negotiation tactics, trying to play hard ball when we were always likely to have a more obvious option.

From February onwards, yes. But only after being played in every single game (starting all but one) up until that point, mostly on his favoured wing and for 90 minutes in the vast majority of games - something not afforded to any other forward/winger in the squad.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 8:10 pmTake the stats out of it.

Every man and there dog could see that Koleosho had lost a yard and struggled right from the very first game.
Anthony wasn’t spectacular first half of the season but he was still performing better than Koleosho.
It’s not to say Koleosho won’t improve but to suggest Koleosho should have started ahead of him last season is just insane after the stinkers he threw in.

Once you remember his dislike of Parker and Anthony it is easy to understand why he posts the dumb stuff he does
Re: Summer transfer window
I wouldn't be worried because Trafford would not be playing with the shocking defence we had and Kompany as manager. There was little wrong with Trafford's performances in the PL. The problem was too many UTC posters were besotted with that clown Muric and over exaggerated how Trafford was performing.

Some posters really aren’t worth replying to. Goliath posted that Koleosho work rate managed to get him in the team ahead of Koleosho.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Jul 19, 2025 6:55 pmHe really didn’t. In the PL I observed him on numerous occasions making a token jog back to assist his full back, it really was unacceptable at times. That lack of workrate and discipline was tolerated at times by VK though, and the reason it was so clear to see was probably due to the preceding years watching the total opposite under Dyche.
Like I say, he improved this side of his game last season, but most of his off the ball work was pressing in the opponent’s half rather than ‘tracking back’.

No. Trafford was shocking. Even in pre-season they had 2 games each, Muric kept a clean sheet against Benfica and made saves Trafford cost us a goal in both of his. The season started with the defence in front of him having no confidence in him and he didn’t help matters with his performances. Thankfully he showed his true potential last season.NL Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 8:35 amI wouldn't be worried because Trafford would not be playing with the shocking defence we had and Kompany as manager. From CTs reports:
Genk.
The goals came at the beginning and end of the game. Genk were in front as early as the eighth minute when James Trafford, making his first appearance for the Clarets, appeared to misjudge a cross from Mike Trésor and it led to Anouar Ait El Hadj having a shot deflected off the line with Yira Sor to score from close range.
Real Betis.
The second half was only six minutes old when the Spaniards equalised. Substitute Marc Bartra took a free kick on the half way line. It caught out James Trafford, hit the woodwork and rebounded onto the Burnley goalkeeper for an own goal.

Probably one for the Trafford thread but feel free to highlight his ‘shocking” mistakes which cost us goals in the EPL and let’s see whether they compare to the ones Muric made in the EPL for Burnley (and Ipswich)
