Trafford to City done according to Romano
I reckon it's best for all concerned that it's done, if it is. Been inevitable for ages so lets crack on with what we need.

Sounds like the Trafford ‘saga’ is coming to an end. What a season he gave us last season. Hopefully we have a replacement ready to go, and this large fee allows us to make a move or two on priority areas.

Hopefully we can begin to move on from Trafford now that seems to be almost done.

Brilliant news on Steve if true. The best centre half I've ever seen at Burnley.

I was rather hoping there was something to the rumours of a player or two coming our way but it appears to be a straight money deal.

Tbf Jedi there still might be.

Because of PSR it’s way more valuable for teams to do these deals as independent transfers.

Have you purposely made it look like he's having a medical with us when he is not, or did you just misread it in the excitement?

I wouldn't mind him if we were bringing in 2 strikers, but if he were the only striker being brought in, then that would smack of desperation!
Wasn't Bamford pants for us when he was on loan from Chelsea 9 years ago?

Seems extremely cheap. But I assume that we've done a deal were by we don't pay the 20% profit. I'd hope so at least...

If that is accurate I await two players to sign on undisclosed deals from Man City shortly, as otherwise that's pretty laughable.

£27 million is a smashing fee for a goalkeeper we need to sell.

Obviously a loss losing Trafford, but for £40 million you can't turn that down. I also think that for this season, we have slightly different requirements in a goalkeeper now as a minnow in this division.

Now, silver lining thinking:

Traff is fantastic at that reactionary shot-stopping, sweeper-keeper style - the majority of shots he'll face are from teams on the counter with less defensive cover around him, and he's very good at that.

This season, we'll undoubtedly be under far more pressure regularly and need a fearless, commanding goalkeeper who loves to come out past his six-yard box à la Pope and claim the ball.

Traff grew in that area a bit but was still measured in his approach, picking his moments - preferring to let the defence handle it and stay on his line, similar to Joe Hart (for me there was a clear difference in how he played in goal compared to Heaton/Pope).

I wish him all the best.

EDIT: it's 27 mill, hmmmm

As mentioned above, that will be because city had a 20% sell on fee to come if we'd have sold elsewhere.

Hoped for a bit more, but it’s still decent. I’d imagine we still owed City 7m or so, wonder if / how that’s been factored in, plus the % profit clause they had, and whether it’s 27 + extras for future performance etc.

If we owe them £7million still and that is still in the bank and we have effectively got £34 million then factor in 20% profit to City that’s not far off £40 million if that is how it works

£27m is the equivalent of selling him elsewhere for £32.4m i.e. less the 20% sell-on - assuming that is the case!

That has to be the case you’d think, or as summised, another sweetener in a loan player or something coming too. Maybe Walker’s arrival is linked to this in some way, giving him a payment to cover his wage reduction etc.

No it isn't. Likely equivalent to NUFC giving us £34m which is insane for a goal keeper with zero qualifications in the Premier League. Good deal for all.

I’d imagine we have a few bids readied or in play already, given how long this has been on the cards.

My mini list is:

Ortega
Cooper
Johnstone
Çakir

I find myself a little surprised to say this because I'm often quite critical of Alan Pace and ALK but I do believe they'll have got a good deal for BFC.

Trafford obviously wanted away and we're no fools. I'm not going to get distracted by the reported fee, I believe we'll have got the best deal available to us.

£27m is equivalent to £32.5m from other clubs so I’d argue it’s not too bad, but lower than I was hoping for.

Assume that was Newcastle’s top bid and City had an option to match it.

Hopefully another sweetener or two included in the deal that we might find out about later.

I'd have though Johnstone for sure. It shouldn't be too expensive and appears to be a steady operator at this level.

Not so sure Cooper or Ortega are the type of keepers we need and know nothing about Çakir.

A new Esteve deal may just ward off and potential suitors, at least until next season. The Trafford saga finally concludes as the £40m buy back rumour will not have been a straight forward deal. Got to be factors within regarding him reaching certain targets etc. All in all £27m seems a good deal for us and another player giving us a decent return on the investment.

Joe Hart on paper was a top signing for us but he wasn't what we needed, as evidenced by the uptick in form after Heaton returned from injury - and Hart didn't do anything particularly wrong, made some top saves infact!

He's a great shot stopper, very good with his feet and has Premier League experience.
Also, anyone thinking a player good enough to play for City last season, isn't good enough for us this season, has higher hopes for the season than me!! (I'm dreaming of 17th!)

No wonder Brighton would only allow Evan Ferguson to leave the club on a loan deal. 4 goals on his debut for Roma and still only a young player who could still fulfill early potential.

I'm not denying that he's good at those qualities; I quite literally listed the reasons as to why his strengths may not be best suited for our survival attempts this season.

He isn't a big, dominant goalkeeper, we aren't going to be trying to control games the same as we did last year in the Champ.

From Nixon:

Manchester City and Newcastle United have agreed a £31 million fee with Burnley for keeper James Trafford.

The Toon thought they had a deal when their long chase of Trafford reached the point of a price being settled on.

However City have a three day period to match the offer and they have - leaving the final decision to Trafford.

The England hopeful is likely to pick his old club if he thinks he is going to play.

Newcastle have leaked that they see him as competition for Nick Pope and will have to change that tack to have a chance.

Burnley will also get more in sell ons and a future sale clause.
