I was replying to someone on this thread and what he said was totally incorrect. There were kids messing with a lighter in the chinese takeaway they went to but had no idea who he was and did not try to set fire to his wife and they didn't even know who he was. Quite how this fabrication has been allowed to continue is beyond me.

Really enjoyed this, seems a lovely bloke and clearly has a lot of happy memories of his time at Burnley. Don't want to say too much and spoil anything but I particularly enjoyed getting the interesting insight into some specific players like Adie Randall in terms of their character off the pitch etc.

Great job by all.

I always recall the first time I ever spoke to him. It was just before the start of the 1992/93 season, following the 92 promotion and he was just coming out of Sainsbury's. My nephew's 7th birthday was just approaching and his mum had booked a ground tour for him which was then cancelled by the club. I asked Jimmy if he could think of anything we could do and he asked if I could get him to Gawthorpe. I took him on the Friday morning and if I was marking Jimmy out of ten for the way he treated my nephew then it would have to be at least eleven plus. He was absolutely brilliant with him, as were the players. My job was to take some pics of course and I'm sure neither will mind me adding it to this post.

The last time I saw him was when he came to the Turf to do the DVD back in 2011. He signed a couple of shirts for me for auctioning at a dinner. He was just the same bloke then, so pleasant, so obliging.

Just watched and listened. Very positive towards Burnley and fans. He had a rough ride at the end, so good on him for forgetting that.

Jimmy Mullen's Claret and Blue Army will live with me forever.

Thank you Jimmy.

Brings back memories and also when my lad was down there in school of excellence, that was the start of good things to come and Jimmy definitely played is part and it would be lovely for him to get up to the Turf and for the fan's to show their appreciation of what he did ..

Loved that, some happy memories, can’t believe it’s 30+ years ago now. Hopefully it’s the first step in getting Jimmy back to the Turf for a game, he’d get a fantastic reception.

He really should come back to the club one day, so he can see how well he is thought of.

Just one correction, warren Joyce wasn't signed to replace John deary, they played together.

There’s a few thing misremembered (we didn’t finish 7th the season after we won 4th Division for example) but you’d expect that when it’s over 30 years ago.

He did come back to an event in the Longside suite, around 2007. He was invited up to the front and seemed genuinely choked up at the reception he got, it was brilliant.

Also said Conroy played in Francis for his goal at Plymouth. Conroy had left at the start of that season. Nit-picking though. His recollections are mostly as I remember them, but with some great insights of some stuff we’ve not heard before.

I don’t think I’d ever fully appreciated what a solid playing career he had. Played the best part of 450 games, which would have been no mean feat in the 70s and 80s.

At 72, his recall of events from 1991 to 1995 was pretty good. I seem to recall Steve Davis's move to Luton in 1995, was not purely for footballing reasons ...

91/92, teenager, packed Longside, away trips with my mates, exciting winning football, brilliant atmospheres. Been chasing that football ‘hit’ ever since :D

Burnley are Back was more apt than most of us would have have dared dreamed 30+ years ago. Very much up there with club heroes for me is Jimmy

A top listen and what an absolute club legend he is and always will be. When you talk about heritage, this is it. THIS is Burnley Football Club!

What was truly special was that as Jimmy got deeper into the interview, it was like someone was flicking switches inside his mind; he lit up and spoke passionately about our club and his players. It was great to see.

That's how I feel about the Coyle season (bar the hero bit).
I don't think anything beats your club being successful around that age, especially when it's your first experience of it.

I so often refer to the 1972/73 season. I wasn't young then, I had my 21st birthday during that season, but it was the first thing I ever saw us win and it remains such a favourite season for me.

Just brilliant seeing JM and hearing him again.

Yep I think we forget that when people give their answers to their favourite time of being a Claret.

I get a bit of stick for saying the Coyle days but it's all in the context really. All I'd seen was mediocrity having started watching just after the itv digital collapse. Never thought I'd see us getting into the Premier league.

Unfortunately the Mullen days were too early for me so whilst I can appreciate the influence he had, there's not much feeling there for me.

What a lovely picture. Jimmy Mullen was also very kind to me when I did work experience as a 15 year old and interviewed Frank Casper for the Rossendale Free Press. Frank himself was also a gentleman of course.

Spent 3 hours in his company whilst interviewing him at the Turf for the London Clarets magazine in about 1993, was supposed to be an hour, gave us 3, lovely bloke and very candid. Still got the interview on those little dicta-phone tapes somewhere. Wish him all the very best. Will always be my favourite manager, 91/92 - Will never be beaten (for me).

The only problem with the pic is that young lad is taking me to Huddersfield today and will be forty in a couple of weeks. Making me feel old. I know Frank far better than JM, another really good bloke.

Great to see Jimmy again, if a little sad to see age catch up with his memory.

I was going on the Turf with mates a couple of years before he came manager for something to do, but preferred playing sports.
When Jimmy got the job the it all changed, i had to be there. He swept the whole town along with him.
The passion, the pride and the excitement was something I had never seen before or since.

To get that you need somebody who feels really proud to have that job, not some talented manager with half an eye on his career progression.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that leaving aside my dad's influence I support Burnley because of Mullen's Burnley.

I was 7 when he became manager, and had gone to Burnley for the first time earlier that year. We lived nowhere near Burnley and got to a handful of games a season. Had the seasons before I turned 11 not been quite euphoric there's a very decent chance peer pressure would have won and I'd have supported someone else.

In some respects Jimmy sold me a false prospectus. Those first three seasons were wall to wall successes and back then the talk was of Burnley being a genuinely big club. But that Burnley remains a club with top flight ambitions at all can I think be traced back to the fact that Orient rekindled mass passions for the club, and just before that had chance to fade after a few false starts, Mullen brought a fear good factor that sucked in both older returning fans and my generation. That's the bedrock of our support today.

Ightenhill_Claret, if you are in contact with Jimmy, please say hello to him, from the fan who always gave him a bag of Wine(win gums we called them) Gums at every away game. They even got mentioned by a commentator on a Sky game. Sharon may remember, I gave her a bunch of my home grown Chrysanthemums, as they were having a rough time. Which she said at the time, turned the team luck around. By now, their then little lad will be a (family) man.

Pretty sure his son was called Danny. He must be mid to late 30s now.

I presume there wasn't a live stream at 2.30am (UK time) last night?

Clicking on the notification to see Simon Evans staring blankly at the screen.

A frightening experience, I was struggling to sleep and this didn't help at all.
