I would have thought Johnstones on a good wage. He was signed to compete for the number 1 shirt not as a number 2 so maybe 40-50k. I'd prefer us to pay an extra 20 or so on a better, younger keeper with a much higher sell on value.
Isn't Ramsdale on about 100k a week at saints?
Johnstone is a very steady goalkeeper, if he plays every week and Trafford is sat on the bench at City there's a strong chance he'd be going to the World Cup ahead of Trafford next year

I'm under the impression Ramsdale's wages don't reduce due to Southampton's relegation because there was no such clause in his contract. He would cost considerably more in terms of both fee and wages than Johnstone.
They are idiots if that's true.

Please can we just sign Gueye.
He looks really exciting and a proper talent.

Reported at £120k a week with a relegation clause for any transfer fee of £20m - £25m.

Sargent and Vardy would score enough goals to keep us up IMO if we could make room for them in the squad.

Johnstone would be a great move for both us and him
The fact several PL clubs have previously been in for him says he is a sound PL keeper
He always struck me as someone quite commanding in his area and should settle in quickly

I’d personally rather sign Johnstone than Ramsdale and use the extra money on bringing in quality in other areas.

You get the feeling that Ramsdale would want away should we get relegated plus I think he is valued highly and be on a massive wage.Thats a result of having been at Arsenal

Talking about paying attention I'm sure Lee Grant would have been impressed with our young lads yesterday.

Wouldn't be surprised to see at least one of them go to Udders on loan.

If I was pace I would try get Kroupi on loan from Bournemouth.

I’ve watched a lot of that kid and he’s going to be a top talent. Bit of a gamble but he’s got a bit of everything

Johnstone more of a physical presence than Ramsdale as well. We need a beast (no, not 'The Beast') between the sticks. Ramsdale isn't the profile of keeper which we need, imo.

£8 mill wouldn't be a terrible deal (fagpacket math here), but then we'd have effectively put two years of development into a goalkeeper, replaced him for one 10 years his senior and have circa £6 mill profit to show for it. Not so sure that indicates good value.

If he helps keep us up, the maths works itself out.

Definitely more chance of that happening with an experienced Prem keeper.

No brainer

The conceded goals is right. 15 is clean sheets.
Ahh, that makes more sense and 15 isn't a terrible stat for clean sheets in the Premier League.

The step from U21’s to League One is still huge. Most of the lads, if not all of them, that we’ve got out to that level are the more ‘senior’ of the youth players, and those who have had loans at Football League level already. Those in that position, have either left (Richardson, Costelloe), or are about to leave, in the case of Dodgson.

Getting anyone out and being a starter at League Two level is good for us. Outside of Bauress and McDermott, and possibly the lad who did the year at Dundee, I’d suggest Mellon is the only one likely to get a club at League One level.

I'll add though, I'm surprised we aren't in for Cooper. Sheff Utd want around 15 million and given his age he fits the model far better.

Untried goalie at this level. That model didn't work last time.

I'd be happy with either of Wolves' back up keepers, both very good. Johnstone perhaps slightly ahead due to having the more premier league experience.

that's because of how we played ! I'd be happy with Johnstone but think not getting Cooper would be a pretty big opportunity missed. If it means however we can spend an extra 7-8 million on bringing in a far better striker then fair enough

I agree, very much because of how we set up, but I'm not sure it's worth to risk again, when there's a perfectly able keeper available at half the price, with as you say money left to strengthen elsewhere.
I would also think Cooper would want a pretty long contract, which would delay the rise of our new goalkeeper.

All fair points but I'll add we actually don't know how good or even IF Weiss will be our keeper long term. Knowing nothing about him I don't know if he is another Etienne Green type or a Trafford for example.

Either way, Parkers signings have on the whole been excellent so I'll stick with what he says :D

Would be a sickener if Sunderland got him and we got Johnstone. He is 10x the keeper that Johnstone is. They are really going for it.

They lost to Hearts yesterday 3-0 and their fans are saying that they are not physical enough. They also don't think the defence is anywhere near good enough and they don't have decent cover in any of the positions. It isn't all rosy even though they have spent quite a lot. The manager said something about the difference between European football and British football and that's why they did ok in foreign friendlies but not this one.

But you've barely seen Johnstone play, and you said he'd only made 15 saves in the PL from 73 appearances. Not sure how you can conclude that Ortega is ten times better than Johnstone or a even a big step up. May be you're also basing it on Ortega's 25 premier league appearances.
