Apologies to Carter. When defending a box today she was excellent. Ref absolute dogshit. Some of those calls were abysmal. The Spanish stop, drop and roll. Plus, the old Pep trick of foul if a team counters at pace. Very good second half from us.

Brilliant from England, never gave up and pushed until the end. I hadn’t heard of Hampton until the tournament build up, but she was excellent.
For those wanting to criticise English penalty takers, you’re better off starting with the men’s team.

Ref actually did a decent job of letting the game flow. Got a few wrong but calling her performance dog **** is well wide of the mark.xxmunkyennuixx wrote: ↑Sun Jul 27, 2025 9:06 pmApologies to Carter. When defending a box today she was excellent. Absolutely chuffed to bits for the Lionesses! Showed belief, determination and fantastic team spirit to, somehow, win it. I don't care or acknowledge the negativity; I've totally enjoyed their journey again.

Re: UEFA European Women's Championship
Lucy Bronze playing the entire tournament with a fractured tibia and eventually going off with a knee injury, fair play to her, I can't imagine any of the England men's team doing that if they could.
Re: UEFA European Women's Championship
Been out all day so haven’t seen it was hoping there would be some highlights on a least one of the many channel's, nothing anywhere, really dissapointing.

Fantastic achievement, never seemed to be in control at any stage from the QF onwards but amazing mentality.
I thought Jess Carter was awesome at the back after a nightmare v Sweden. Kelly’s confidence and cockiness on the biggest stage was refreshing for an England player.

She was shocking. Inconsistent beyond belief. You do not let the game flow and ignore blatant fouls because we were prepared to play on whilst the Spanish dropped. The advantage never benefited us and she never went back and dealt with the offender.welsbyswife wrote: ↑Sun Jul 27, 2025 9:34 pmRef actually did a decent job of letting the game flow. So proud of the ladies. They never know when they are beaten. Lucy Bronze is an incredible warrior, and to then learn she played the whole tournament with a broken tibia!

Lionesses Win
Many congratulations to the lionesses on a great win on an overrated Spain. Sky report said Chloe Kelly was the hero again but surely Hannah Hampton was the hero with 2 penalty saves sometimes it depends on who you are that gets the credit well done Hannah

Great win.
I read before the 1923 U21s final that Spain had some phenomenal record of not losing a European final for both club and country. Well Traff kept them out in ‘23 and the ladies have beat them tonight. Maybe the tide is turning?

Tackler, It's not good form to put the result of a match in the post heading. Some people like to record a match for later viewing, and knowing the result spoils it for them.
Re: Lionesses Win
I’d suggest that people don’t look at social media or TV if they don’t want to know the result of a big match. Common sense really.

I couldn't believe the standard for an international European final, the penalties were so bad they were more funny than anything else
Re: Lionesses Win
It might not be to the men's standard, but I doubt any man in current football would play a whole tournament with a broken bone

Big match, record it to watch later, jeez the lack of posts on this thread goes against what the media is desperate to promote!

Probably because there is already a thread with 3 pages on it discussing the matchfirstclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 28, 2025 8:11 amBig match, record it to watch later, jeez the lack of posts on this thread goes against what the media is desperate to promote!

Was gripping to watch

I don't live in the UK, so I have no idea what the so called narrative in the media is, however I have thorough enjoyed watching a senior England team win a major tournament, again.

Re: Lionesses Win
A fracture is a break
There is no difference
The words are interchangeable
But the extent of a fracture/break can be quite variable
Lucy Bronze played the tournament with a broken leg. That's a fact. Most likely she had a stable non-displaced fracture. And yes you can play with a tibial fracture. I'm not sure it's necessarily a good idea. And it would be painful as hell
But I think that sums up Lucy Bronze. We can say what we like about women's football from a quality point of view. Of course its not the same as men's. I also think it's not as exciting. But if I had to choose a role model for my kids - she'd be way ahead of most male footballers

There are some right miserable misfits and oddbods on this site. So uncomfortable in their own skin that they feel compelled to pour scorn over most things, even an England team winning a major tournament.

Re: Lionesses Win
Christ that didn't take long. Congratulations deteriorate into "well, the standard is terrible and Lucy Bronze wasn't playing with a broken leg". They played against women, they won the whole tournament, and Lucy Bronze played through a lot of pain to do so. Well done her, and well done them.
You can't look at the standard in isolation, it's essentially a new sport in the context of time. The extent to which the game has evolved in quality and professionalism over the past 5 or 10 years is absolutely phenomenal. And it will continue to improve.

Ah yes, the old argument about standards etc. I wonder where the mens' game would be if they had been banned from 1921 to 1971?willsclarets wrote: ↑Mon Jul 28, 2025 9:36 amChrist that didn't take long. This ban undoubtedly affected the development of the ladies' game because they prohibited women's teams from playing on FA-affiliated pitches until someone saw the light in the 1970s.
They won a European Competition on foreign soil which is something that our men have never done. Well done to them all
WIll our overpaid men get their finger out and emulate this performance in the next World Cup? More than likely not because they will all be moaning that they play too many matches etc., etc ad nauseam.
Well done ladies, enjoy the celebrations.

When Kelly scored the winning goal, their keeper put her hand out while Kelly ran past her. Wasn't sure if she was irate (Kelly running back past her) or whether she'd put it out for congratulations.

And not just that - the first time either the men or women's team have won a major tournament on foreign soil. Very impressive.

Re: UEFA European Women's Championship
but she did !!! NHS website describes a fracture of the tibia as a broken bone !! that it can be a hair line break to a multiple pieces . but as a starting point its a break .
You are however quite right in that a complete break is difficult to walk on without a lot of pain ( Ibroke my ankle and when I tried to walk threw up with the pain )

Re: UEFA European Women's Championship
Interesting stat from the woman’s tournament there where 51 penalties in the entire tournament. 28 where scored and 23 missed . A conversion rate of 54 %.
In most European leagues its between 72% and 85% (85 in the premier league )
In the last mens World Cup and taking account for after extra time this actually came in at 71%..
Theirs a lot for the coaches to do here i think

Quite right if only all the goal keepers for the mens teams were as good as the female ones (Trafford excluded) then the giving of a penalty would not be celebrated like they are nowGoalposts wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 4:52 pmInteresting stat from the woman’s tournament there where 51 penalties in the entire tournament. 28 where scored and 23 missed . England women have been great to watch. TBH they haven't always played especially well but they always played with heart and determination. That's what won the tournament in the end.
Brilliant stuff.
