A few on here need to chill out the window is shut 1 September which is over a month away.
Not surprised this country has one of the highest mental health issues in the world
The very idea that fans are wanting a couple of key signings through the door and up to speed to play a part in our opening 3 fixtures of a new season.

Whatever next?

It’s the same panic every season. Every manager would love to have their squad in place for the first game. Unfortunately that is not a reality for clubs like us.
Sunderland don't seem to be struggling. Just an observation, I am not panicking at this stage, there is plenty of time yet.

Also, there have been suggestions a few weeks ago via various outlets that we would do no more business until the 1st of August due to PSR. That is looking like it might have had some truth to it.

Tbh I'm not surprised Sunderland aren't struggling.

Nobody in their right mind is going to turn down 13m for a 33 year old.
Nobody in their right mind is going to turn down the thick end of 40m for two 20 year olds playing in Belgium.
Ditto 30m for the other one in France. Another 25m for Le Fee who looked decent in flashes in the champ but otherwise largely got bullied.

They're like us last season except if we snorted a big bag of crack before we put our offers in, instead of just a bottle of sherry.

3 games and 9 points to play for before 1st September including a huge home game against a genuine relegation rival, the current squad don’t get a point out of those games in my opinion, I don't think it’s unreasonable to want to strengthen the side in key positions before the start of the season.

I think it’s poor we’re 2 weeks away from the season starting and the spine of the team has not been addressed at all despite losing 3 of our 4 best players last season.

We don’t even have a competent goalkeeper as things stand.

My theory is we’re relying on the Trafford sale to fund a few cheap underwhelming incomings and maybe a loan or two. The Espanyol deal wasn’t cheap.

Presumably the Owners are also trying to get the Espanol squad in good shape before the window closes ? Hard enough to achieve at one club, let alone two...

They’ve only spent £110m and got £40 of it back from Watson and Bellingham.

Someone like Xhaka is exactly what we need, top quality, experienced, proven in the league. An absolute bargain at 13m for 3 years, just over 4m a season, they’ll get that back 50x if he keeps them up.

That would make sense given that certainly Cajuste seemed very close but went quiet. May also explain why Trafford seems to be done but not announced.

That's not the point though is it. The point is they're not struggling to land their targets because they are demonstrably paying over the market value.

I agree Xhaka would be great but I'd be concerned if we paid 17m for a 33 year old.

Agree the wait until 1st August looks to be correct. I just cannot see Kyle Walker has swapped City for Burnley without the promise of quality further additions to our squad.

Doesn’t the PSR year end at the end of June?

Not sure what the significance of August would be if it does.

Ours is July 31st because of our later reporting for accounting period. It’s hard to see us being so close on PSR given the £88m of sales post account cut off date last summer and the way new purchases are amortised. Trafford sale would probably generate around £20-23m of book profit for PSR though.

I think I must be the only person in the world who remembers Xhaka as being absolutely rubbish, like when he passed the ball to Wood to score an open goal.

I also have a memory of Arsenal fans absolutely vilifying him and blaming him for practically everything.

Not sure if I’m remembering a different player or something, but I honestly thought he’d been put out to pasture when he left Arsenal.

Absolutely SH. And it will only be after the season starts that some of the big boys will be letting a few gems go out on loan, once they have got their squads sorted. I am talking the likes of Harvey Elliott, Dewsbury Hall, Ross Barkley. Just the sort of players who I know will massively improve us

From what I am reading, most clubs PSR cycle was end of June but for some reason ours is end of July.

Based on reports from various sources (example), we had to sell Traffs before the end of July, and not buy anyone else until the 1st of August to avoid a PSR breach: https://x.com/fukxumean/status/1948091559078986124

Our relegation rivals would've looked at the likes of Amdouni and Tresor last time out and moaned on a message board that we're signing exactly the type of player they should've. We have no idea who will work out.

Xhaka has played for some good sides, and obviously has quality. We'll see how he gets on in a struggling side fighting for their life. I'd imagine he does well, but I can also see a world where he gets sent off 2 or 3 times and 17 million feels like a lot.

I feel confident we will get at least one CM in, less so we'll get a striker and a second CM.

Maybe a few other people remember how good he’s been for Bayer Leverkusen in the last 2 seasons or how he is still the best player and captain for his national team (and has been for a few years now).
Even before Bayer Lev the very fact he was a regular in an Arsenal team that was near the top of the league and thrashed us several times is a bit of clue that he might just sneak into our team !

Was he rubbish in the Premier League or not though? Genuine question, because I thought he was much maligned and driven to Leverkusen by Arsenal fans, but maybe I’m remembering someone else.

It’s going to be a very different challenge for him at Sunderland, either way.

I didn’t say he wouldn’t, just said I don’t remember him being highly though of here. In any event, Sunderland will be a real test for him given he’s been used to playing in top teams in both divisions.

From SSN

Lyon make Morton enquiry - reports
Lyon have enquired about signing Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, according to reports in the Athletic.

The England U21 international, 22, is contracted to the Premier League champions until the summer of 2026.

England beat Germany to win U21 trophy again: Lee Carsley's side underline transformation in English football
Sky Sports

Morton, who was the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen last season, is believed to be interested in joining the Ligue 1 club on a permanent deal.

The player, who created England's winner in their European U21 championship final win against Germany in June, made five appearances for the Reds last season, including starts at Brighton and Southampton in the League Cup, as well as a substitute outing in the loss at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League league phase.

Surprised if we are not looking at this young guy

I may be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but I can envisage a scenario where casjuste ‘signs’ and follows us on instagram, but the club get wind and tell him to unfollow as it’s not being announced until 1st August and don’t want to be seen as not complying with PSR.

That’s definitely my memory from his Arsenal days, although wasn’t paying much attention and likewise haven’t followed him at all since leaving.

It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on in a team scrapping at the bottom instead of chasing honours, but if you were to ask me gut feel, I’m not convinced it’ll be the difference-maker some are positioning it as. Wasn’t convinced with Le Fee either.

I think that Diarra lad looks an excellent signing though.

I watched a lot of Leverkusen and Xhaka floated around in midfield playing excellent connection football, spraying it about looking wonderful . He won’t be doing that at Sunderland. They will be battling for their lives, just like us, as said earlier he will pick up many cards of both colours.

That’s what I’m really hoping.

I’m not panicking yet but obviously we’re just a few weeks away so some quick additions will be important if this is PSR related. If it’s not…
We have got deals waiting, someone on here told us we are signing 3 players from city as part of the Trafford deal

I think that deep down we knew Egan Riley, Brownhill and Trafford wouldn't be here next season. So nothing shocking that risks de - stabilising the club plus the best of the 4, signing a new deal to boost morale.

Some exciting looking new signings already and the potential for more incomings over the next few weeks up to deadline day.

All eyes keenly on the 3 key positions that don't need spelling out

Getting towards sneaky bum time right now

Some pretty gaping holes in the starting eleven that need filling

Burnley made a stunning £12.8 million profit on keeper by selling him back to Manchester City.

The Clarets spent £15 million on the shot stopper when he signed from City two years ago and picked up £31 million on his return to City.

City qualify for £3.2 million to be paid back as a 20 per cent of the £16 million profit which is why some sources wrongly quote the price at £27 million.

Burnley plan to spend the cash on three new additions with the likelihood that Trafford’s replacement will be relatively cheap - with the bulk spent on a striker.

City offered keeper Stefan Ortega as part of the deal but Burnley have their own ideas.

Seems we didn’t want Ortega, if you believe noxon

Lets hope the fee for Xhaka fee includes an on field Geordie interpreter
