Thread locking
Thread locking
Do we think it is right that one person can lock a thread?
I get why it was locked, but we need somewhere every transfer window to discuss rumours.
Wasn't the solution more moderators or turning off notifications?

Re: Thread locking
Most seasons the transfer threads are ok
However, when one poster calls another poster the 'C' word, it was only going to end one way

Re: Thread locking
Between mid March and mid May the msg board was very quiet, once the promotion honeymoon period was over some usual suspects return and some brand new posters appear. The msg board then becomes toxic with these posters trolling and arguing. Some posters simply shouldn’t be engaged with and the other solution is banning them.
One of these posters who was prolific on the Tresor thread said he took a break due to the board becoming toxic. He returns and the board becomes toxic again, there’s a theme.

Re: Thread locking
If posters refuse to take any notice of warnings… they are higher up the thread including one from me after seeing posts disappearing then what are the moderators to do? Why should the moderators spend their Saturday having to act like teachers in a primary school playground… why should CT have his afternoon at the football ruined by endless alerts complaining about posters unable to just accept that other people have a right join in? Without CT this board would crash and burn in about a week (as the previous one did), of course he has the right to keep it in check.

Re: Thread locking
Why can’t the posts be deleted and 2 or 3 posters banned instead of ruining it for all?

Re: Thread locking
Probably because it’s a lot quicker. I’d be very surprised if the thread is not unlocked once the message should have sunk in for those not getting the message from the warning signs.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 7:19 pmWhy can’t the posts be deleted and 2 or 3 posters banned instead of ruining it for all?

TRY AGAIN, threads are only deleted when there view isn't what the inner sanctum of this board agree with.

Why argue? Just play nicely.

I don’t think that is true.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 7:26 pmTRY AGAIN, threads are only deleted when there view isn't what the inner sanctum of this board agree with.
It’s when posters can’t accept other’s opinions and start to get argumentative and abusive.
Having a balanced, reasoned debate shouldn’t be as difficult as it is for some on here.

Re: Thread locking
agree, but it does start to get a bit annoying.
Re: Thread locking
Got to love that the blame is thrown at those moderating and not the bickerers that are spoiling the transfer thread, and other threads, for everyone else.
I’m guessing that were the debate to be had face to face, there wouldn’t be the same level of arguments and name calling. There’s no need.
Differences are fine, what isn’t fine is not having the capacity to discuss those differences sensibly.

Re: Thread locking
There are many threads and posts the board admins may not like that are not locked, deleted or see the posters banned, etc.. However there have to be standards and there has to be someone to monitor and maintain them. People say, "Oh, but I have a right to voice my opinion!" but there is also the right for people not to be abused, threatened or have foul language thrown at them by those keyboard warriors. There is also a right to profoundly disagree with an opinion that someone felt the need to post. We all know who will post opinions that are 'off', pure argumentative for the sake of it, blatantly insulting or simply idiotic. We all know who will disagree with those posters. Tiresome squabbles ruining threads should be banned in my not so humble opinion.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 7:26 pmTRY AGAIN, threads are only deleted when there view isn't what the inner sanctum of this board agree with.

Re: Thread locking
Yes it is right because the bickering is tiresome. The transfer thread is ruined every year so I don’t read it much. Thankfully someone set up one that is link specific and actually worth reading.

Re: Thread locking
The issue is, it’s fine banning 123easyasBFC but he’s not the root problem, it’s the select posters who follow him around looking to argue with him on every thread.
You could ban him then those same posters will just pick someone else to follow around and do the same thing. I had it for years, everything I commented on was quoted by the same 3 or 4 posters relentlessly looking to bicker because they held a weird grudge.
I could give you names of 3-4 posters who only post snide comments, they don’t even bother offering their own opinion on topics, just enjoy dogpiling on others.
Everybody could guess some of the names, You have let them get away with it for far too long, has to be some kind of favouritism.
