For those who donated to Buy Me A Coffee

Post by ClaretTony » Fri Jul 04, 2025 7:20 am

Please read this if you made a donation.

Firstly I am really grateful. A sizeable amount was donated and i can promise you that it would have come in very useful.

I did set it up after a request from Rowls and placed it in a reply to him on the message board. Until everything was sorted, I didn’t want to advertise it so I wasn’t expecting anyone else to make a donation.

Despite a lot of correspondence, they have refused to send me the money and have now closed the account informing me that it is not suitable. I have been assured that all those who have contributed will be refunded within thirty days. I really hope you are.

Can you please let me know if you haven’t received a refund by the end of the month and I will arrange payment by other means.

Again, thanks so much to those of you who did try to buy me a coffee, I was overwhelmed by your generosity and support.

Tony

Did they explain 'Why it's not suitable'?

That's strange. Perhaps because buy me a coffee are set up to support content creators? (Youtubers/bloggers etc) But then, you do amongst other things write a lot of content. Very odd.

There must be another way to do it. If the money was going to be useful then we should try and reinstate it another way!

Actually could you just use PayPal? I don't think there has to be any particular set of criteria for that.

Thanks but I’m more concerned right now to be honest that everyone gets their money back.

Thanks for the info Tony.

What's happened is hugely disappointing but appreciate the information and fingers crossed it can be worked out and something else set up in place.

I'll certainly let you know about any refunds and keep you informed.

Hi CT

I've received my refund no problems. Thanks for keeping us up to date with what was going on and really hope you find an alternative service provider.

Thanks Tony, only just seen this thread, but can confirm I received a credit dated 4th July. Still prepared to support you if you can arrange an alternative.

An alternative option is to have a 'Donate' page on the website. As the site is built on Wordpress a simple ecommerce plugin would work, or even just a Paypal/Stripe button.

https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/eas ... -donation/

I think the site has had problems with Paypal in the past (I could be misremembering) and Stripe is a good option for businesses but not sure how cost effective it is for sporadic donations.

There's almost cetainly a half decent service out there that can be found and it would be great to be able to contribute a token gesture towards the site on a regular basis.

It could be even as simple as displaying a paypal.me link: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/

That bypasses any website / plugin function. People just click the link and send the donation/amount.

Yes, that side of it is easy. I think where the site (or predecessor) had difficulty was accessing the funds.

Just bumping this to try and ensure that everyone who made a donation, and the total was sizeable, have received a refund.

I can confirm that I did not receive one single penny of it. I have no idea who supported me because BMAC refused me access to that. I just don't want anyone to have made a donation and have not been refunded.
