More fun at Old Trafford.
After announcing their plans for a new stadium it turns out that United don’t own the land they plan to build on and are now surprised that the land they thought they could buy for £50million will now cost them £400million.
The current landowners have Utd over a barrel.

£400m is a hell of a lot, even to Utd. That’s the equivalent of 5 dreadful players.

Brexit Jim might need to sack a few more people to pay for it. The local boy returns story gets better and better!! What a lovely chap he is.

Oh well I'm sure that tax-dodging scrote can sack a couple of cleaners to make up the difference.

Arent Man U funding the stadium and asking the local government (taxpayer) to fund the rest of the development? Sounds like the current landowners are trying to take the **** out of the taxpayer to me.

Think the taxpayer funded element is the new station (where the old station is) and the works to move the freight terminal to St Helens or wherever it’s going. Think this is the land United will build the new stadium, so their problem.

I’ll be in a minority of one here, but I’d like to see this get built.
I want the Premier League to have the best stadia and particularly with it being local, I’m sure I’d use it for concerts, etc.

Surely if its the freight terminal move (Freightliner being the ones asking 10x what Man U have valued) then thats exactly the taxpayer who will be footing the bill. All I've seen so far, including the article about this in the Guardian today, is that Man U are building the stadium. All other work in the area will be paid by local government.

The distinction here is the value of land for a commercial venture such as a new stadium and and the value of land where up to 7,000 homes are proposed to be built - which is part of the general wider scheme that United are proposing

Pretty certain the only elements that are being funded by the Government are the train station/works needed to create the new freight terminal. The train station is being built on land on/near the current stadium, not the freight terminal. The freight terminal is for the stadium and surrounding residential.
I think the land around the stadium is being sold to residential developers (by United, not sure) which is part of the issue as United had valued the land based on commercial use and then released a masterplan with surrounding residential - now the freight company want that use reflected in their land valuation.
Seems like United have been naive and the freight company are being opportunistic.

It doesn't matter. We are all going to end up paying for it, just like how we all ended up paying for West Hams ground. The extra cost will just mean we will all end up having to pay more.

Don't think it'll be long until Radcliffe tries to flog his shares to a country

You are also forgetting Man City's East Lands Stadium from the Commonwealth Games. 100% paid for by the tax payer. Given to city.

Answers on a post card please,
I have been saying for a while now that the country with the largest Public Investment fund bar none is the State of Kuwait - they have been very quite for a number of years having recruited track athletes in the noughties - with tensions rising in Iran and Syria it may be time for them to make a play - do not forget that they facilitated the Iraqi invasions - twice
All used to have the best national football team in the Middle East

Interestingly Sam Morsy just left Ipswich to go to Kuwait because of "life changing" money !

Yeah it’s quite a conflicting departure from my natural urges!
I hate them otherwise and have taken full pleasure in their recent demise into a laughing stock.
I do have a general interest in stadiums, stadium construction and seeing the Premier League have/us play at the best stadiums in the world though, hence why I’d like to see it built.
If it helps, I imagine it will be a giant albatross around their necks and hinder on field success for another couple of decades though, so best of both worlds to get it built

Personally I'd like the 100,000 stadium to be built.
It will be the biggest stadium in the UK and it's ' up north' which will be a huge smack in the face to the FA and their crap hallowed Wembley.
I can see more England internationals being played at Old Trafford and a lot easier travelling with kids to watch England. The catchment area in population from Manchester is far far greater than the South.
