Horrific zoo request.
Horrific zoo request.
Having to have one of my dogs put down recently I was disgusted and horrified when I read this article. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I'm sure others will feel the same.

Re: Horrific zoo request.
Maybe its a bit of an emotive subject for you (after the loss of a loved pet, which I am sorry for) but the article isn't saying the zoo is requesting people donate their beloved Snowy the Lab or Snuggles the Cat. More that likely its for certain animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, birds) which don't have a future (born with genetic condition or part of a cull) to be donated, which I don't think is that bad. The article sensationalizes the zoo's request.Firthy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:35 pmHaving to have one of my dogs put down recently I was disgusted and horrified when I read this article. There is no difference between chicken being bred and killed for purchase of feeding humans vs one that is bred and killed and used as feed in a zoo.

Better than them being abused and unloved I guess

If the lions won't learn to eat grass ...
Re: Horrific zoo request.
Don't see a problem with it. If you don't want to donate your pet, then don't do it, the choice is there

Re: Horrific zoo request.
As a pet owner and animal lover, this sounds a great idea. Should be more of it.
Re: Horrific zoo request.
I’ve had 3 dogs throughout my life, I loved them all dearly. I would have donated their corpses if given the option.
I’m on the donation register to donate anything usable when I’m gone, including skin and eyes, which for some reason many people don’t donate, but are willing to donate other organs.
I’ve also signed up to donate my body to the local medical school once everything worth whilst has been harvested.
I won’t be using it

Re: Horrific zoo request.
I found it quite amusing tbh, they'd be quite welcome to feed me to Aslan once i'm gone, nevermind a petFirthy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:35 pmHaving to have one of my dogs put down recently I was disgusted and horrified when I read this article. Re: Horrific zoo request.
There are a couple of dogs just down the road from us which I'd happily deliver for them

Re: Horrific zoo request.
It’s not for pet dogs ffs
it’s for birds , hamsters , guinea pigs etc that people no longer need /can keep etc . Saves animals being dumped and gives the zoo animals some proper scran . While I personally abhor zoo’s I can see why they’d do this .

No story here, they are asking for chickens and rabbits not cats and dogs …

Sorry, it wasn't clear to me in the article — are they euthanised first, or just fed alive? It does state they are 'gently euthanised' but it doesn't particularly disclose how?

By making them drink Carlsberg? The stuff brewed in the UK, not Denmark.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 6:34 pmSorry, it wasn't clear to me in the article — are they euthanised first, or just fed alive? It does state they are 'gently euthanised' but it doesn't particularly disclose how?

Nothing like a good bit of UTC outrage where it’s completely unneeded.

Id presume "falling asleep gently" like any vet would do with an injection, rather than a cattle prod / stun gun conveyor belt production line abattoir.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 6:34 pmSorry, it wasn't clear to me in the article — are they euthanised first, or just fed alive? The numbers of donations I expect to be low side rather than Noah's Ark turning up every day.

As an omnivore I have no issue. Be rather hypocritical to have any other stance.

'gently euthanised'
That's rubbish! Euthanasia is done to humans. Animals are slaughtered or, if you want to be soft, put down.
