Last year we simply needed to neutralize them to remain in the running.

This year we will need to pick them off to secure safety.

Clear now?

Have Chelsea become our new feeder club?

We've given them well over £50m so far this summer...WOW

Could be worse clubs to have as a feeder couldn't there. They buy lots of young talent

We certainly needed a physical presence in central midfield so happy with this one.

And I think our wide men will benefit greatly from him.

Just read this on an online 'sports news' page. This has to be the worst piece of 'journalism' I have ever read.

'Most Burnley fans would have preferred Trafford to stay and continue developing, but that ship sailed the moment City exercised their buy-back option. The hope now rests on Dubravka staying fit and steadying what was a shaky defensive setup last season.'

Plus the add ons..
If there are additional add ons he normally says so clearly a typo. No idea on fees but I imagine he is getting his info from the Chelsea end and the fees quoted are top line if all clauses are met. I imagine we have paid significantly less as we speak and assuming that the biggest clause would be based on staying up if we don’t stay up the final figure will get no where near that. If we do stay up it will have been worth it though.

Which journalist wrote that? It is clear that most Burnley fans would hope he would stay, but it was also clear that he wasn’t staying so I imagine there was no ship to sail at all. Shaky defence? just wow!

The last nonsense about a shaky defence must have been AI generated. Either that or by some journalist on the usual anti- Burnley agenda loved by the gutter press.

Agree on all counts.

And if we don’t stay up, the market thinking they cost us £20-25m each will only help ensure we get a good resale value.

If one of/if not the best defensive record in English league history is a “shaky defensive setup” then there’s no hope for anyone 😂

They obviously mean the last season in the premier league.
A lot of journos aren't bothered about lower leagues, there's no money/clicks in it.

This window is a far cry from the windows of yesteryear when the powder was being kept dry and we were little old Burnley. I for one am loving it. Up the clarets.

Yes, where is he? I’m getting a bit concerned about this one. We can’t possibly be just relying on Ashley and Foster as our two strikers for the season.

The shaky defence was the best defence there has ever been - ever!

Let’s name and shame the site and the journo

If that was the case then I would have thought the fact that the majority of the defenders from that season are no longer part of our defence was a more pertinent point, not the keeper staying fit.

I am in no way an expert or a follower of the many published stats and data on football but there seems to be a perception that we over performed last season re goals conceded. This could be what sports journalists are now picking up on.
The following extract taken from a football pundit on the Betfair site previewing the upcoming PL Season and nominating their best bets.
“Take Burnley to finish Bottom at 6/4. They over performed their xG against last season by 22.4 goals and two of their excellent defence in keeper James Trafford and Centre Back C J Egan-Riley have left”.

And that’s the issue in taking XG and stats literal. The logic is there but football is such a dynamic game that it’s irrelevant how we performed last season, who has left etc. the extract from Betfair is complete ********.

Yep, seen it multiple times now and feel it's very lazy. Means we "should" have conceded 34, which is still pretty good.
Context is always required. About 1.6 of the 22.4 would be the pens against Sunderland. It's also not really a keeper stat either. For example, Millwall generated 1.8 xG, Trafford saved 0.55 the rest built up of blocks and misses.

Leeds the best value to finish bottom in my opinion, don't understand why they're about twice the price of us and Sunderland. Not backing it mind.

They tend to spread the reveal videos out, which I can understand. So if he has signed they might leave it until this evening or tomorrow.

Just need to get a striker over the line and I feel this will have been a very good window for us, hopefully with a few moving on to other opportunities in the next weeks.

Played less than 400 minutes at Dortmund and for some reason seems to want to go back. I’d definitely take him, might’ve narrowly taken Diouf though. Thought he looked a real talent.

Nearly. I am concerned about the fitness records of all our cbs apart from Steve. Especially as I suspect Bashir was pencilled in to start against Spurs, but he's probably not going to be fit for somewhile. AT, Worrall and Ekdal have all had lots of time out. Ideally, we would sign a dominant cb, but there's probably not enough in the kitty. Maybe a loan? If not I guess Delcroix is going to have to be in the 25 and not on his way out.

Also, if Ramsey isn't going to feature we defo need an attacking cm, to replace Brownhill.

Looks like it's Broja's agents holding things up.

This was on Sky sports

Burnley remain in talks with the representatives of Chelsea striker Armando Broja over the terms of his contract.

A deal between the clubs is fully agreed and Broja has completed his medical.

Burnley are optimistic a deal can be finalised this week.

Wonder if it's over relegation wage drop/get out etc - you'd imagine that is a sticking point with a lot of our signings.

Really liking our more pragmatic approach this summer. A good blend of youth/resale value along with valuable PL experience thrown in with Walker/Dubravka.

Fabrizio Romano is saying that we’ve paid a total of £45m for Broja and Ugochukwu. Can that be right and where is Armando Broja?
In that article it also said we paid £11M for Humphreys which we didn't. That was including add ons.

So I assume the same applies to the £20M for Broja and the £25M for Ugochukwu in that those figures also include add ons.

I wouldn't jump the gun at this point we have absolutely no idea how we'll get on.
More optimistic and referring to who we've targeted - mix of ages, experience etc.

Those figures will be coming from the Chelsea end.

I doubt we are as concerned about what anyone else thinks about our business

While I get your point, what is very evident is the clear change in approach and I think for the better.
