Personally, I don't know Jota or his family, as I don't know the King of his, so I'd prefer Liverpool to grieve inside their own club, and not to bother with National Anthems in the 21st century..

Don't really see why they need to play the national anthem before a glorified pre season kickabout anyway?

The minutes silence was disrupted by a Palace fan shouting, and then the Liverpool fans started to boo the disrespectful Palace fan.

It was a day when respect was expected by everyone for everything before the kick off and indeed all day

If you don’t like the National Anthem then just be quiet. Silence speaks louder than words especially Scouse ones
Scousers are definitely a breed of their own,TAA was revered as a god on Merseyside,as soon as he wanted away he became **** of the earth ,best supporters in the country my arse ,while I agree what the Palace fans did was absolutely disrespectful I’ve no sympathy for the holier than thou Liverpool fans.

I know a few Liverpool season ticket holders and I have asked the question why boo .
What I have been told from more than one person is that they think they are not English . Yer not sure what to say myself . In all my time my watching internatioanl games I have always gave respect and stood for the opposite side .
I have to say the Rugby lot are super , even now Ireland v England for the first time at Croke Park and for what it was playing at the ground you could hear a pin drop .

Is there any way we can sell Liverpool to Ireland ? I’m starting to think Trump should get on the case

Because there national anthem is the same as ours, no reason to play what they do.

Seemingly it was in response to Liverpool fans booing the National Anthem, but the two really can’t be compared.

Shitty behaviour from those Palace fans.
The booing by the Palace yobs disgraceful.

But again the booing of the National Anthem
( I’m not a royalist ) by the Liverpool fans just emphasises once again what a low life bunch some of them are

Haven’t Liverpool been singing songs about the Munich air disaster for years ? Seems to be that they want to be regarded as this all caring, passionate community when it suits them.

Thought all games at Wembley, the national stadium, had the National Anthem played. Maybe not, but I'm never surprised to hear it.

The Palace fans didn't actually boo the minute's silence for Jota.

A few idiots shouted at the start of the minute ('shouted Eagles' apparently) and others shouted at them to shut up and then there were loud boos drowning out the shouting before applause took over.

Prior to that, a large section of what you can only presume were Scouse separatists booed the British national anthem - and the commentator on TNT Sport didn't say a word.

Interesting those who complain about free speech being eroded are those most likely to complain when people boo a national anthem.

Surely having free speech means you should be allowed to boo a nation anthem without anyone moaning about that.

Free speech is not booing things is it...!

It's ironic that a City that has such a sense of entitlement seems to have completely forgotten that it was built on the backs of African slaves. It has been suggested that 80 per cent of the slave trade went through the Port of Liverpool about 1.5 million Africans across the Atlantic.

I like Liverpool and it's people but their collective sense of Narcissistic entitlement is truly embarrassing. You don't not boo the anthem because of what it stands for or otherwise but because booing things is boorish and stupid.

Yeah bad form from the Palace fans but 100% they would have remained silent for the silence had the (I was going to say scousers but really their glory hunting fans are from all over) not booed the National Anthem.

Don't know who they think they are Liverpool fans, I can't stand them

I absolutely adore the royal family with every fibre in my living body but I still think the palace fans were in the wrong if they booed the silence. Interestingly listening to talksport this morning it's emerged that hundreds of palace fans were locked out of the ground & appeared on the concourse unaware that the silence was taking place & the other palace fans aware what was going on tried to get them to shut up & then the liverpool fans started. Sometimes it's better to wait to fully know the facts before opening threads condemning.

Quite funny seeing people lining up to let us know how much they hate scousers but expecting deference and respect for the country that treats them this way in return.

No. Just asking the question of why, if you bother to read the OP.

A minute's silence for a professional footballer who had recently passed away isn't a lot to ask IMHO.

Moaning is free speech too.

Free speech clearly was applied to booing the national anthem. No-one was stopped from doing it, no-one arrested. Other opinions in opposition to it came freely.

This is how it is supposed to work.

Poor old Szoboszlai and other Liverpool players looked totally baffled by it - in most countries the idea of booing your own national anthem is just beyond the pale. In many you would be beaten up for it.

But the Liverpool fans were free to boo the national anthem, free to offend and everyone else is free to criticise.

If this was a Burnley player would you not expect a minute’s silence at the first game at Turf Moor following the player’s death?

A friendly I presume? If a Burnley player had passed away during the off-season and there was a minute’s silence before our friendly against Lazio, would you expect there to be a minute’s silence before our first home league game? Because I would.

Not if they'd already been 3 others, with the amount of people who'd been in attendance at Liverpool 3 previous games. I think most fans will have paid their respects at least once.

Scousers booing the National anthem as they don’t consider themselves to be English… there must be a hell of a lot of historians in Liverpool. Do they consider themselves Brigantian, Scottish (pre Hadrian’s Wall), or Welsh… early Medieval (Bede)?

Maybe we should declare our independence for the Brontë country (East Lancs & Eastern Edge of WYorks). It was an independent country long after Liverpool (ie late 700’s King Elmet) was an English port.

If you can't respect a minutes silence then go and live in another country.
I don't like our National anthem. Its an absolute uninspiring dirge.
That's just my opinion.
I'm not at all sure why that means I should go and live in another country.

Booing our National Anthem doesn't make sense to me and bordering on pathetic but its a free country for now.
Booing a minutes silence for anyone is in my opinion despicable but probably coming from people who are thinking if you don't like the National Anthem you should leave the country.

No-one booed the minute's silence. The booing from Liverpool fans was aimed at the handful of Palace fans who shouted out during the minute's silence.

Well, if true, that shows how thick some Liverpool fans are. They should have ignored it, but instead, they ruined their own minute's silence.

I'm just patriotic. Get fed up of people slagging of our National Anthem and the Royals as well. It's all part of our countries heritage.

Maybe we should declare our independence for the Brontë country (East Lancs & Eastern Edge of WYorks). It was an independent country long after Liverpool (ie late 700’s King Elmet) was an English port.
I'm sure you meant Western edge of WYorks.

Quite right, thanks for pointing out the error. I was concentrating on my history not my geography

Just goes to show how effective right leaning press and media can be.
How does your fed-upness manifest itself?

Can we not slag off Prince Andrew yet, and his choice of friends?

Or is that unpatriotic?

Do away with the one minute silence for dead folk and also get rid of that awful, fawning anthem. In fact, get rid of the royals. They'd get rid of us all in a heartbeat if they could.

I think that should signal the end of this thread.....
