Team for Spuds

Post by burnley007 » Mon Aug 11, 2025 2:59 pm

Too early?

It's probably almost impossible to predict our starting XI for Saturday atm, with new signings, fitness, formations still up in the air.

But...I'll try.

Dubravka
Walker.....Ekdal.....Steeve....Hartman
Ugochukwu....Cullen
Edwards....Hannibal....Anthony
Foster

I'm really hoping that Broja is fit enough to start, but I can't see it happening. I'm not sure if we'll play 5 at the back, will Tuanzebe be fit to start?

Team news will be fascinating, I just hope it feels more exciting than it did at 2pm last saturday ;-)

Are Tresor, Ramsey, Beyer, Flemming fit? Would hope to see most of them involved in the squad.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see none of the latest new signings start until the Sunderland game.

Parker said Ugochukwu played 60 minutes in a training ground game v City and he was the closest of the three ‘along’ fitness wise. He and Broja had been training alone at Chelsea so they are without many match minutes. Dubravka played just 45 mins in a friendly for Newcastle. After a full week training I’d think Parker will be tempted to start his new £20m+ centre mid and 170 PL cap keeper, but, perhaps he’ll favour match ‘sharpness’ that he’s got from Laurent and Hladky. For me I’d probably push to risk them both, they can only get match fit by playing, and there’s a big one to be ready for against Sunderland the week after. I’d like Walker to slot in at right ‘wing back’, with Tuanzebe offering more height at RCB.

————-——————Dubravka
————Tuanzebe——Ekdal——Esteve
Walker—————————————————Hartman
—————Ugochukwu———Cullen
——— Hannibal—————————-Anthony
———————————Foster

Hladky, Worrall, Roberts, Laurent, Edwards, Koleosho, Broja, Tchaouna, Larsen

Can’t get Tresor or Ramsey on my bench.

Agree with that team with who we currently have available.

Dubravka
Walker, Ekdal, Esteve
Sonne, Cullen, Ugochukwa, Hartmann
Edwards, Foster, Anthony

Half tempted to start Tchouna instead of Edwards to add a bit of physicality in the final third

I think if you want a team full of PL experience (Hartman only one without), physicality and incredible work rate & desire to try battle for a point then that’s the one.

Injuries /fitness permitting I’m imagining something very close to the below XI . It’s not a BAD team by any means but I’d imagine at least 2/3 players off SP’’s “ best “ XI
The bench should be lively too . Be a time to catch Spurs if they’re not settled .

Dubravka
Walker-Ekdal-Steeve-Hartman
Ugochukwu- Cullen
Edwards-Hannibal-Anthony
Foster
Bench Koleo/JBL/Broja et al

Did JBL get any minutes in friendlies since signing? I know he wasn't in the Lazio squad.

just read this on the BBC site, apparently over 12% playing Fantasy Premier League have Ramsey in their team, (as a cheap option obvs).
I'd be surprised to even see him on the bench!

He was on the bench vs lazio and came on in the 2nd half.

If we are putting a winger at wing back, surely it has to be Anthony, especially away to Spurs.

Just looked as inaffective as last time he was here and I know he was our top scorer in a very poor side .Just can’t see him getting much game time ( Just another version of Sarmiento).

I think Koleosho's recovery pace and tenacity would be really useful going both ways. Don't think Anthony's skillset would work as well at wing back.

They've probably seen the Claret and Blue and confused him with his brother at Villa.

Back 4 despite him playing a 5 against Lazio and other tougher games last season? Edwards left wing and Anthony right? No Larsen, Roberts or Tuanzebe in the squad? Only 8 subs? Hmm.

Suprised so many are going for a 4 at the back despite what we've seen pre season. I'd actually prefer a 4 but I think it'll be more:

Gk Hladky
RWB Walker
LWB hartmann
LCB Esteve
CB Ekdal
RCB Tuanzebe
DCM Cullen
CM Hannibal
ACM right Edwards
ACM left Anthony
ST Foster

What I'd like which matters not!

GK Dubravka
RB Walker
CB Esteve
CB Ekdal
LB Hartmann

DMC Cullen
DMC Ugochukwu

RM Edwards
ACM Jacob Bruun Larsen
LM Anthony

ST Foster

This is assuming there's no Roberts, Humphries, Tuanzabe, Beyer or Flemming available and I doubt from Parkers comments that Dubravka or Broja will start, I know he included Ugochukwu with those two in terns of being short of fitness, but centre midfield is a key area and I think he'll want to bring him straight in

Hladky
Walker Ekdal Esteve
Sonne Lesley Cullen Hartman
Hannibal Anthony

Dubravka

Has there been any more news on Dubravka's injury?

This is a real tough one, as we don't know much about the minutes given to players in games that weren't televised.

It's not ideal, but based on what I've seen in the preseason games so far.

Big Les and hopefully Magic Mike Tresor to get on the pitch.

He seems to have been heavily involved in training, I bet he played a fair chunk in the 'other' game on Saturday. I'm hoping to see plenty of him this season.

Was down at Gawthorpe this morning hoping to catch a few pics/squiggles for my son.

Ramsey not quite ready - his words
Tresor been raring to go all pre season - his words

As for Saturday, I’d say the following-

Hladky
Sonne Walker Ekdal Steve Hartman
Cullen Hannibal
Anthony Foster Edwards

With the likes of Ugochukwu, JBL, Broja, Luca and hopefully Tresor available from the bench

Some of these anticipated teams are far from ideal. There are four or five positions where you’re thinking that we’ve not got our strongest options available.

I’d take a point now! :D

Some of these anticipated teams are far from ideal. There are four or five positions where you’re thinking that we’ve not got our strongest options available.

I’d take a point now! :D
If he does get on the pitch, what if anything extra will it cost us for his transfer?

He seems to have been heavily involved in training, I bet he played a fair chunk in the 'other' game on Saturday. I'm hoping to see plenty of him this season.
Sounds promising, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Tresor would need to get on the bench ahead of Koleosho, JBL, Tchaouna and Edwards. Which of those 4 you dropping?
