Not convinced with Sonne and he is going to have to work hard against Spence. Laurent I assume we will just see until Ugochukwo is ready to come in.
I liked the shape vs Lazio, but need to see how it holds up against much faster football.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
Koleosho not making the bench is disappointing, especially later on in the game if we are still in the game and using his pace with tired legs.
Really hope it isn’t a sign that he isn’t in the plans.

Im pleased Parker has stuck by some of those that have earnt the right through promotion. Time may see them drop out and thats fair enough. Also these lads may well have earnt the right in pre season too with their work ethic. I’d rather back this approach than how we attempted/approached it last time.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
I get that all that but the individual characters can still be the width they are.
Dropping the leading 0 and having the numbers either centralised or right justified would look a lot better imo
Anyway, enough on the numerical aesthetics, let’s focus on the game

I ‘m a bit surprised about sonne if honest, but clearly Conor isn’t ready the others are not a shock too me, I would rather give as many from last season squad a chance and get the new signings to work there way in as and when they are needed.burnley007 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 1:49 pmSo we are starting the season with a weaker side than last season.
Who would have imagined Laurent, Sonne, Foster and Ekdal would start the season when we were celebrating promotion??

I was really hoping to see Tresor listed in the team, is he still unfit?

Why should we make it easy for Thomas Frank to work out.
MIx it up as much as possible, although tbf its pretty straight forward.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
I look forward to seeing the attempts on goal/target stats for us at the end of the game. I'm not expecting great things.
Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
It's perfectly fine to acknowledge that the team out there today isn't ideal because it contains several players who weren't in our best Championship eleven. You hope that when you go up, you keep all your best Championship players and add better players around them and that hasn't been possible for us because three of our best players have left and we have fitness issues with Flemming and Roberts.
Hoping for a point today nevertheless.

Is Connor Roberts injured? I'd have put him ahead of Sonne on the teamsheet.
Admittedly not seen much of Sonne, but I think he's a Parker signing so would make sense.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
Laurent and Foster, to me weren't back up at all. They were fully fledged members of the first team squad, including starting games and playing from off the bench.
Ekdal went out on loan to build up his fitness levels and is now continuing his physical progress by playing games as a starter in a new look back line.
Sonne is doing what he is here to do, covering for fitness and injury problems. As a full international I think he has an opportunity to play his way up the pecking order too.
Some posters can't help themselves, dissing players just before the season gets underway.
Still, it's all about opinions!!

I was hoping Bruun Larsen would be playing as he could be our goalscorer again.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
The team is pretty much as expected. We have some better, some unproven, players on the bench, but it would have been very risky to start them all at once. We need a solid base to build on, and we still have strength on the bench to switch it should we need to.

As Newcastle said above. They’ve gone very lightweight in midfield with Gray & Bergvall. Cullen & Laurent can better them, all though they do have big guns to bring on.
Here’s how the beeb line us up.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
I mean it's not the same thing is it you buffoon. Walkers playing on the right. Ekdal in the centre of them and Esteve on the left. So I would class them as three CB's. I'm classing Hartman and Sonnne as LB and RB. And your quiet right, in possession, you would expect them to be acting as wing backs and out of it slotting into a back 5. So no. I don't think Esteve is playing LB. Please try to keep up.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 2:04 pmNo,
Sonne will be playing as a wing back, and Kyle will be playing RCB.
Unless you think Esteve is playing LB?

So he's RCB, which he has played (to extremely high levels) for City and England. POSITIVES.
Dubravka starting.
Lesley, Flemming and Ramsey fit enough to warrant a place on the bench.

I think it's simply he's not in favour. He's probably our 6th choice winger after Anthony, Edwards, JBL, Tchaouna and Koleosho. Game time will be very limited even if he is fully fit I imagine

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
Looking at the line up he’s clearly gone for legs and running power (bar Ekdal). Sure I heard in a few interviews with different players that Sonne was top in all the running stats in pre season, same in the midfield and up top with Anthony behind Foster plenty of energy and legs. If you can out football a team you can at least out run them and out battle them, looking at their midfield up against ours I think we can do that then later in the game introduce Edward’s, Fleming etc and try to Nick something.

TBH I can see Roberts wanting to leave...if he could get a move to Swansea.
And on a similar note: Koleosho and Tresor to Espanyol.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
EVERY game we play this season is going to be difficult, no matter what our team selection is, or who our opponents are. What I can't quite comprehend is why some posters are critical of Parkers selections/tactics before a ball is kicked. He is aware of the fitness and abilities of our squad not any of our posters. They are critising a manager who brilliantly oversaw a record breaking season.

Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
Don’t think today suits him if honest no idea how fit he is and where we are in terms of transfers but I suspect for the first few games at least we will look to accommodate the hard work and closing down of hanibal and Anthony, if he remains a Burnley player we will see him at some point. To add he isn’t really a winger more an attacking midfielder who can play off the left or in the centre and we aren’t really playing with wingers either more like 2 number 10s with overlapping wingbacks so maybe our current formation would suit him if selected!matttheclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 2:13 pmI think it's simply he's not in favour. Re: Spuds v Super Clarets Match Thread
I think people need to realise that players perform better in different systems.
I really liked Sonne at RWB last weekend (I wouldn’t play him at RB). I think this team will perform better than people think.
It will be defensively strong but give us a bit of something on the counter with Foster and Anthony.
There’s also plenty of legs on the bench to come on around 60 mins to freshen things up.
Bit of positivity for the first game. That spurs team is very beatable, it’s got weaknesses throughout.

Last time we started with this team:
Trafford
Al Dakhil, Beyer, O’Shea, Roberts
Vitinho, Berge, Cullen, Koleosho
Amdouni, Foster
That team was so unbalanced and physically weak. This team is more experienced, bigger physically and set up in a much more rigid system.
I’m optimistic and will happily take a 0-0 now

There’s about 4 career goals in that starting lineup which is a worry. Good to see a few players who haven’t featured in pre season make the squad though. I think this matchday squad highlights that there are still some areas that require significant strengthening.
