Best Call Screen App?
Best Call Screen App?
Morning all,
Every day I'm getting calls from different mobile numbers. When I answer, I'm transferred to a call centre and it's some sort of crypto scam. It's doing my head in as blocking the numbers achieves nothing, since it'll be a different number tomorrow.
Can anyone recommend a decent app to screen calls on android?
TIA

Re: Best Call Screen App?
The latest versions of android have call screening built in don't they?
Re: Best Call Screen App?
It has smart called ID, so will give me a company name even if I haven't got their number saved, but I'm looking for a proper call screen app where the caller has to say who they are before getting through (if that's a thing).
I can't think of any other way to stop the calls.

Re: Best Call Screen App?
I'd go into the App store and do some searches.
Look at the ratings and reviews.
You'll get an idea of which are worth trying.

Sorry, this is what I was talking about. It asks who's calling and you get a text transcribe before you decide to accept it or not. When a unknown number rings you can ask it to screenFretters wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 10:48 amIt has smart called ID, so will give me a company name even if I haven't got their number saved, but I'm looking for a proper call screen app where the caller has to say who they are before getting through (if that's a thing).

Thanks for that, looks like my phone (Samsung Galaxy S20) isn't quite new enough for this feature!
Re: Best Call Screen App?
iOS 26 (for iPhone in September) supposedly has this built in.
I haven't been using the beta this time, but it's been on/off for users - but I expect it to be available soon enough. A huge win.

My Samsung S23 rejects 95% of scam calls as does my wifes Samsung S9Fretters wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 10:37 amMorning all,

Re: Best Call Screen App?
We get loads on the landline ...
Have even had "LP numbers" that were scam calls (cloned numbers).
One of which reckoned to be the "Long Preston Health Centre" about my "so called" prescription waiting to be picked up that needed paying for asking for, & card details... when I was laughing the voice at the other end asked why ...
I told them
1, I have no prescription meds".
2, THERE IS NO HEALTH CENTRE IN LONG PRESTON.
3, if you're going to scam do your ****ing homework 1st. They hung up

Re: Best Call Screen App?
I've enabled it on iOS 26, works well. On a call from a withheld number, it transcribed what the caller said in real time on the screen so I had chance to pick up.
Re: Best Call Screen App?
A few of the security products include call blockers etc, such as bitdefender, works well for me

Simple solution: If it's an unfamiliar number.....don't answer itFretters wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 10:37 amMorning all,

Re: Best Call Screen App?
My landline isn’t even plugged into a phone. I only answer unrecognised numbers on my mobile when Amazon are about to deliver. Everything else is sent to voicemail.

I run a business so can't just ignore calls, though.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2025 9:27 amSimple common sense will always trump the flashiest tech.

Re: Best Call Screen App?
My provider has a system in place that if a known counterfeit number comes through a ‘likely fraud’ or ‘likely spam’ message will pop up. Other than that, you’re on your own to do your due diligence. No matter which fancy app you have, the bottom line is the bad guys will ALWAYS be one step ahead of the service providers.
