Re: Bronwhill confirms departure
Going back to Geoff Nulty, it took him a while to find his best position for us. He had periods as a supplementary striker, a centre half and a midfielder. He was excellent in the air, and yet he wasn't fully appreciated and often targeted by the boo boys.

I thought he was good wherever he lined up. Always gave it everything.

Versatile players like Peter Noble Geoff Nulty Billy Ingram and to some extent Martin Dobson and outside of Burnley ,Paul Madeley, are a very rare breed today , if not extinct

I can’t see Brownhill coming back to Burnley unless it’s for less than the club offered originally him. My guess is he’s misread his market value and struggling to find a club willing to pay him anywhere near what he’s looking for.

Bizarre that he hasn’t found a club yet.
Can’t see him coming back, but you never know. Keep Cullen as captain if he does.

I hope he ends up at a good club, was brilliant for us in the Championship, undefeated against that lot and Captain when we won the league at Ewood and last season was the difference in so many games for us. Scored the two goals that got us promoted. I still think he'll go to the MLS

Leicester are making a few sales in order to get themselves in a more favourable position with PSR, only then will they go into the market. My bet is on them

It was just about self inflicted though by Brady; Maguire wasn't responsible.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 6:59 pmAye, I believe it was off a Harry Maguire challenge/coming together, he caught Brady over extended after shooting.

I've genuinely no idea why he's not found another club, but if he genuinely has misread his market value then he's an idiot because he had a perfectly good offer on the table here.

He might still do. As a free agent he can pick & choose & we have no idea what he's been offered.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:19 pmOr, which has already been alluded to, he thought he could get a better one elsewhere.

He'll be professionally advised anyway & I doubt his agent will be going against his best interests his agent probably advised him not to extend. So you could suggest his agents an idiot or he is in a way for employing him but I doubt that's the case. It's better to wait to see where he ends up before judging.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:30 pmI know that. I was responding to the suggestion that he'd misread the situation.

Agreed, but without a proper pre-season, he's really playing catch-up now.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:38 pmHe'll be professionally advised anyway & I doubt his agent will be going against his best interests his agent probably advised him not to extend. Yes & no I've got the belief that if you are young man (which he is) & go to the gym & exercise etc & generally take good care of yourself you don't need pre-seasons you are in fine fettle anyway.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:40 pmAgreed, but without a proper pre-season, he's really playing catch-up now.
Re: Bronwhill confirms departure
It's funny when the statement came out it was all about improving professionally and getting new challenges. What a load of bull... it's about the deal & that's that coz he ain't going anywhere at a higher level than us.

Ahh yes. You were the one who claimed our pre-season tour to Portugal was a "doss" so I'll just leave it there.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:42 pmYes & no I've got the belief that if you are young man (which he is) & go to the gym & exercise etc & generally take good care of yourself you don't need pre-seasons you are in fine fettle anyway.

Re: Bronwhill confirms departure
Josh was badly advised he had his best season ever with us and would have been a useful addition this year. But he is one of the many whose ability hovers between the top two divisions. There rumour true or otherwise that he was after a deal sweetener of hugh proportions hasn't helped. Leicester sans Vardy are not the team they where and aren't going to be automatically promoted.Josh would be better accepting our deal if his pride/agent will allow it.

Re: Bronwhill confirms departure
I think Brownhill's agent is a Burnley fan isn't he? (Phil Ercolano).
I've no problem with him playing the field, and I think he'll end up abroad (probably MLS) where he'll get a nice payday and be one of the league's top players. I'm not sure that's the career move I'd have chosen at 29 having come off the back of my best season performance-wise but he might fancy a different type of challenge.

Yes, Culm, and how galling was it when Geoff was prominent in our 0-3 thrashing at SJP not long afterwards?
Regarding Josh, I'm sorry to lose another of last season's stars, and a Dyche/Parker 'good character'. I wish him well - unless he turns up as an opponent.

You don't even need to go to the gym.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:42 pmYes & no I've got the belief that if you are young man (which he is) & go to the gym & exercise etc & generally take good care of yourself you don't need pre-seasons you are in fine fettle anyway.
Just take the dog for a walk 15 minutes a day and you're ready to play PL games.

Has to be a case where he's trying to get a PL Club as he would get in any Championship team with he record there
I was thinking Celtic or somewhere abroad at this stage ...
It's all a bit odd

He's got offers from Leeds and Everton apparently
Re: Bronwhill confirms departure
Yes, Phil went to St Teds. I was in the same year as him. Nice guy. He was always a smooth operator though - the type who could sell ice to Eskimos!! It's no surprise he's gone down this route with his career, and he's clearly doing very well.Ightenhill_Claret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 18, 2025 9:27 amI think Brownhill's agent is a Burnley fan isn't he? With regards to Josh, I can't help but think something has backfired. There's no way you walk away from a contract offer the size we were purportedly offering if you don't have a better offer on the table. I can still see him coming back to be honest. We're still light in CM, and Parker got more of a tune out of him than VK or SD, so it makes sense for both parties.

As we know prices get pushed up to unrealistic levels when teams are desperate after they've missed out on their original targets.
Eriksen and Vardy etc are all in the same boat, its a poker game and the stakes aren't yet at their highest point.

I agree he’ll be professionally advised, but it will be an agent. If there’s an agent out there that puts the needs and wants of his client before his own, he won’t be working for a footballer.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 17, 2025 9:38 pmHe'll be professionally advised anyway & I doubt his agent will be going against his best interests his agent probably advised him not to extend. Not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch of the imagination, but there’s def summat not adding up here. Anyone remember the last time a professional footballer in his prime after a great season, run out his contract and hadn’t been snapped before the start of the next season? Utterly bizarre….
