Watford have dropped Deeney today - not scored a goal since 1st October. Totally agree with you on those two, neither offered anything against us.Ric_C wrote:Troy Deeney was awful at the turf. Callum Wilson was anonymous

Can anyone who has watched the first half say gray has a better first touch that Barnes?! Barnes has been immense. Gray miscontrolled every ball that's come his way

I have to confess, I and a few sat around me thought taking off Barnes was the wrong move & should have been Gray

Awful today, but possibly the biggest goal if the season so far.
In fact scrap that.

Re: Andre Gray
Thteatened that goal throughout the second half. Nearly got in. 5 minutes earlier but couldnt take a very hard ball.
Not the greatest footballer in the world and never will be, but he is a fine finisher who comes alive around the box. That was a sweet strike, but more importantly an early strike. Thats what did for Valdes. A lesser keeper wouldnt have got there at all.
Great to see, and some humble pie required by some who have written him off, both on this thread and generally.

It was a sweet strike no doubt but it should have been comfortable for Valdes. You were probably at the game so only seen it live but you would still very much expect a lesser keeper to get there and hold it, no sweat.claretspice wrote: That was a sweet strike, but more importantly an early strike. Re: Andre Gray
Disagree. Saw it live an see it was a hard, true and very early strike before Valdes - any keeper - was set. Slow mos won't reflect the element of surprise if the strike.
Re: Andre Gray
Feed Gray and he will score, don't feed him and he won't score.... it's that simple.
He was awful today because he was given absolutely nothing to work off, apart from high hanging long balls easy for defenders like Gibson to beat him too. Took his goal well and worked his balls off, no complaints from me, I never doubted Andre tbh.

Re: Andre Gray
It doesn't help the case that we often resort to route one hoof ball: long ball from the keeper, flick on, shot and some fortune with the keeper. We're can't rely on getting goals like that, 3 lovely crosses into the box from Defour withing minutes of coming on showed us what we've missed in him.

Gray showed his two sides today, in the first half took the ball with a awful first touch, tried to dribble the ball and easily gave the ball away and then fell over.
No time to think, instinctively shoots and we get a goal.

Not saying, incidentally, that having got there Valdes won't be disappointed - like an outstanding fielder in cricket dropping a chance which wouldnt even constitute a drop for a lesser fielder.

Re: Andre Gray
Thought it was an excellent strike but it was poor goalkeeping. It was pretty much right at him.
Re: Andre Gray
I haven't written him off. But his first touch and general footballing ability is dreadful. Today proves that.

From The Guardian...
"Gray deserves a huge amount of credit for the venom and accuracy he packed into his shot. He could hardly have struck it any better, and after getting down low to reach the shot at the foot of his left-hand post, Valdés must have been as surprised as everyone else by the power Gray had been able to summon."

Re: Andre Gray
Seems like most people in here agree with me. He has an awful touch and is a poor footballer but relies on his speed and strength. In the championship that was enough, but not in the premier league. He scored today and I hope he scores every week...But what I have said above is the truth and most people who know the game / have functioning eyes agree with me.uptheclarets86 wrote:Championship Player of the Season 2016 and Top scorer...stop talking shi*te
Re: Andre Gray
His touch is generally fine when the service is good. When the ball is hoofed in his general direction he doesn't usually magically bring it down out of thin air 10 yards above his head, but unless we can afford Ibrahimovic it's unlikely we'll find someone who can.
Gray is playing in the PL for the first time in his career, he was in non-league football about five minutes ago, he's playing in a side that doesn't set up to suit his strengths, and his season has been heavily disrupted by suspension. People need to give him a break to be honest.
The touch that banged in the winner today looked alright to me.

Don't agree with you at all mohammed69.
Think Gray is a finisher. He's not been getting enough opportunities. It's only a matter of time that he scores 2 or 3. Must be hard for young players having to take the weight of Internet know-it-alls.

24 goals with a poor first touch
He fired us to promotion basically.
If you can name a striker, around the same stage of his development, who scores 20+ goals per season, for anywhere near the amount we paid for him, then I will take your comments with a slightly smaller pinch of salt.
He can miscontrol as many passes as he likes for the rest of the season as far as I'm concerned, as long as he scores the goals that keep us in the premier league.

He not brilliant by any stretch but he more than paid his fee back to Burnley and in truth is a massive part we are in this league.
Oh and won us 3 points today with his bad touch and lack of football ability you say....

Gray is on track for 5-6 goals. nowhere near good enough. It's as simple as that guys. I don't understand the controversy.

Personally, I don't give a dead rats a55 who scores, as long as they do. I don't really rate Gray, but today's 3 points justifies his inclusion. I was in the pub today, pretty p!seed, and I was voicing an opinion that he should be replaced by Vokes. What the f*ck do I know? In SD I trust.

Absolute naff first touch for the goal today - nice to see him on the scoresheet.
If he has 10 more horrible touches like that goal this season I'll be very happy.

Re: Andre Gray
He's going to be important to us this season and beyond. He does need to improve his first touch and aspects of his technique. But given where he's come from that's hardly surprising. He's still relatively young so has plenty of time to work on his game. That's intended to be constructive rather than being a complete bellend using words like 'he's nowhere near good enough'

Most player ratings have him as a 6. Without the goal that's a 5, which is the worst on the pitch. So yeah, *******, I do.TVC15 wrote:
