Those 8 pages related to genuine concern for the health and safety of our supporters based on the information available (certainly not helped by poor communication from the club) about the new arrangement. Easy with hindsight to be critical of folk on here who were worried. Had the club made a statement about the safety assessment that had been conducted and how it passed that, we might have been less anxious. But no, there was nothing. I was told by Police that the temporary barriers to stop home supporters entering and exiting via Ormerod Yard will be replaced by a permanent structure. He did not know whether that would have an emergency exit built in. Let’s hope so.
This is right, it was avoidable with communication, and it is disappointing to find an “I’m all right Jack” mocking from many posters on here after too, coupled with the lack of empathy from the club.
We know the early crush wasn’t too bad at 5pm when I left.
We know it got far worse at about 5:10pm when the stands fully emptied (I saw a photo on X).
We know a gate into the Memorial Garden would help the flow substantially.
We know the delay of giving our most expensive and biggest stand the longest exit has annoyed people.
What we don’t know yet is how it affected the old or infirm, like the guy with osteoarthritis that posted his worries earlier on the thread and were subsequently read out on the Bee Hole podcast. Let’s retain some empathy because some are doubtless struggling with it, and as for worse accidents or emergencies, those are risks and won’t happen often, maybe not even every season, but the risk has clearly risen needlessly.
