Match Day Experience

Post by colne-claret » Sat Aug 23, 2025 7:14 pm

Lots of change over the summer…

New PA system
New stadium layout
New access points
New big screen videos
New walk out music
Digital season tickets

What did we all think?

PA system was a good upgrade, arguably a bit too loud but I’m not going to be that pedantic

Layout hasn’t affected me as I’m in the upper tier of Jimmy Mac, it was busier coming out but nothing drastic for me. How was it for everyone in the JH?

I thought the final media they played before kick off was good, with the violin no nay never, I can’t understand why they didn’t play that as a walk out song or just before the game kicked off. The song they choose to play was bizarre.

Have they started saving pie mash and peas? Looked like a guy near me had that.

Perhaps they need to fix the floodlights before Tuesday night

Some positive stuff and I’m sure things that aren’t great for everyone. More importantly, a great win.

New PA system- much improved
New stadium layout- fine but really isolated CFS
New access points- seemed smooth enough
New big screen videos- hadn’t even noticed .
New walk out music- fine I suppose
Digital season tickets- few hiccups but will settle

New PA system - too loud and bassy
New stadium layout - great for away fans
New access points - a complete shambles
New big screen video - v good esp. the fiddle version of NNN
New walk out music - excellent - although I did expect the Lone Ranger to appear
Digital season tickets - didn’t use them
Floodlights - might need to test them a little
Pies - have already complained to the club
Bag searches - we’re in the Longside stand - it’s too far from the pitch to throw anything.

Blasting out goal music, for the goal to be then disallowed was a personal highlight……along with the light show

I couldn’t care a monkeys about the so called “Match Day Experience” . All I want to do is drive there, park up, have a leisurely walk to the ground down the route I’ve always taken before this latest fiasco, watch the game, walk back along the same route that I came in on, get to the car and have a safe journey home. Not a lot to ask really is it Mr Pace.

Exactly, why are football club owners obsessed with everything having to be an experience? Save experiences for day trippers and tourists and let regular match going fans attend games without hassle and being made to feel like they are second class citizens. Modern owners almost seem to be waging war against ‘legacy fans’ as we appear to be able to organise our own days without the need to buy tat or overpriced food.

You can do all of those things. You just have to take a different route. Hardly a massive issue

I’ve never really paid much attention to the ticket split in the CFS before, but what struck me today was that we now appear to have given away fans more tickets in there.

The home section in the CFS over the last few season has often had empty seats, even in the PL, and I wonder if all this change is really about is getting more ticket revenue into the club. The away section is going to be a sell out most games this season.

Pie peas and gravy from the kiosk at the side of the park view - excellent
Jaidon Anthony rounding the keeper - belting
Pints of ‘tropical’ real ale in the cricket club after the game and watching leeds collapse - super
A good day

I’d wondered if we had to increase the away end due to premier league rules and we’ve just sold it as upgrading match day experience…probably wrong though

No problem with access to and rom the BL stand today., HP Way seemed busier but nothing that had any impact as we made our way towards the town centre after the final whistle.

Only negative 'matchday experience ' (apart from the unintentional disco light show mid match which due to my vision issues I had to shield from) was the blaring PA system /goal music -it really was deafeanly loud and I came away with a headache.

On a positive note the home support singing around the ground did sound better/louder and more widespread than before (though obviously the scoreline helped)

Plus, £5 for a pie, £7.65 for pie, mash, peas and gravy. Nah.

I assume Doug Metcalfe was answering some difficult questions about the floodlights yesterday evening.

Broadcasters probably weren't too pleased either as it had gotten pretty dark.

It wasn’t too bad but now have a longer walk and takes longer to get off. Liked the pre match music. The goal music was, as it always is, dreadful and tinpot.

The goal music and freed from desire are as tinpot as ever but keeps the Benidorm lot happy I suppose. Pies up to fiver, smaller and worse than last years so binned those off. PA is now clear but far too loud - for something that’s so easy to manage. Announcer guy as bad as ever, his commentary on the kids 5 a side was lol. Access changes don’t affect me. Busier coming out the back of the stand but that’s about it. Saying that, some cretin had left two detachable traffic cones near the club shop which had detached so a few people were tripping over the bases. Giving the away fans more seats and especially behind the goal seems a crap move although moving the players families to the JML potentially means less complaints about standing in the lower alongside now.

All just fluff really though innit, matchday experience is dependent on what happens on the pitch, I just turn up for that and do one at the end.

Players getting off the bus….don’t know don’t care

PA system. Way too loud. I had to put my hands over my ears at one point. All that noise completely ruins any chance of a pre-match atmosphere generated by the fans. Also annoying when the beer advert soundtrack overplayed the music creating a right cacophony

Lighting. Hilarious. Comedy gold and it really seemed to stop Sunderland generating any momentum in the second half.

Access. Tin hat time. I left at the star of time added on as I have a 270 mile drive. Added about 200m to my jog to the car but otherwise I didn’t see any problems which was a relief

….but why I go to the match is to watch the football which I throughly enjoyed! So it was a good experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed yesterday, really pleased members of the ticket office team were available and supporting outside the new CFS entrance.
Thought the atmosphere in the Home section was superb and walking to the town centre far better without the away fans spilling out and becoming confrontational on HP way.
I hope the club push on with the development of the new fan experience area, overall I thought the day appeared a huge success

One thing I noticed with Fosters disallowed goal. It's going to look a lot better on tv being able to see the fans behind that goal celebrate. We could only really see the away fans previously

For me it was a good day. No issues getting in or out. Left on final whistle (JM upper) and got away as per normal. Was on the M65 by 5:15pm.

Just 2 complaints-

The paper cup for my £6 pint was leaking so I lost £3.65 in drips through the bottom. Get rid of paper cups and stick with the plastic ones!!

Save the light show for night matches. It didn’t seem appropriate half way through the game when our momentum was getting going!!

PA was far to loud. Walk on music to loud as well. Thought Clint Eastwood was going to make an appearance. End of the game walking back had no issues. Goal music and music at the end bit tacky and there's no need for it.

Suppose if I was a 12 year old it might be great, but it isn't.

Apart from turning down the PA a fraction I thought yesterday was fine. Most people on here need to understand they're not the core market for this sort of thing and if it helps attract the next generation - and the reason all clubs now do the things we're doing is that the evidence suggests it does- then I cant see a problem. I actually thought the theme tune was very effective and it's a bit unique.

For what it's worth I thought the ground configuration, although mildly inconvenient to me, was fine too. I'm sure it can be refined and I hope it is but getting out was perfectly fine. I'm slightly concerned about the impact of the CFS swap on atmosphere but that'd for us to make the best of.

Cricket field was fun. Felt like an away day. No issues with my old man’s seat, we’ve been placed back a row and are now in safe standing, but still right by the exit. The isles to walk to your seats are much narrower though, causing a back up in the entrance/exit staircase. Was very slow just before kick off and packed.

Atmosphere seems much better as we are more compact and all together.

View was better than I thought it would be.

Bar service pretty fast, great big area in the tent but will be Baltic come November in there without some heaters in.

Always a better experience when we win though

Its a very minor gripe but wish they wouldn't blast freed from desire literally as soon as the final whistle goes.
And i think more people would stay to clap the players off if they didn't drag it out so long.

Understand that his wife wasn't too happy when it was sung at Huddersfield. Please don't sing it, it's not in the least bit funny or clever!

All just fluff really though innit, matchday experience is dependent on what happens on the pitch, I just turn up for that and do one at the end.
This.

But then you also have to appreciate that you'd have fans that would say why do you do this or that? Football fans are a diverse bunch and the club are trying things to cater for every one and not just one person. They need to find different things to keep the future fans of the club. Its a difficult balance to find and they are just trying things to find that. Its not always designed to be a conspiracy against the long standing fans

Most people on here on Burnley fans, there is no greater core market for Burnley Football Club.
