Flemming

Post by Goliath » Sat Aug 23, 2025 8:58 pm

Feel a bit sorry for him, it looks like Foster has taken his chance and jumped him in the pecking order. Also clear that in this league the games probably more suited towards a Foster more than a Flemming.

With Broja arriving as well, he may end up as 3rd choice striker for one spot through no fault of his own.

He did great as a striker for us last season, but from the little I have seen of him this year he does not look sharp enough for the PL. Foster, early days , but is revelling in it.

He’s coming back from a preseason injury. I would write him off just yet.

Flemming would be better playing behind Broja.

When fit I would like to see Broja playing No 9, and Foster behind him. Could be a handful for some defenders

We will need them all throughout the course of the season , injuries & suspension.

At this level Foster's striking attributes can leave alot to be desired.

But Lyle is much more agile, works harder, can get more around the front line. Zian was a great signing to help us get back into the PL, but I think there is little use to him anymore.

But these are the times, we would not have got him on loan without some clause that made us sign him permanently upon promotion.

Maybe but I can't see Parker going with 2 strikers

He played 22 minutes of football with 0 pre season. Let's wait a little before we write him off.

I don't feel sorry for any player when it comes down to competition within the squad.

I agree with the OP. IF Foster keeps playing like that neither Flemming or Broja get a sniff.

Foster always looks to me like he's been to the same school as Koleosho. Excellent in many respects and has good control, can be really tricky, absolutely committed and shows great skill, but then can't play the (often easy!) final pass or find a colleague. And in Foster's case doesn't score either (which is his primary job!);

Unlucky to have his goal ruled out. There's nothing I'd like better than to see Foster silence a small group of 'experts' who seem to delight in dissing him at every opportunity 😉

It's a long hard season, Broja, Flemming and Foster all have parts to play.

I have seen him play quite a lot and I think he looks a very good player. But Foster was top class today and if he continues to play like that he should not and will not be dropped.

He'll play his part this season for sure, off the bench but also starting. I suspect if we are to stay up some of the important goals will come from Zian. I don't think he's phased by big moments and we'll have plenty of those. We need a squad to be together and all play their part this year, as someone else said no doubt he's feeling pretty good this evening!

Flemming is capable of the 9 and his natural 10 position . He will be valuable this season as he was last. I watched him closing Xhaka down and leaving niggles on him each time and Xhaka was starting to go , well…full Xhaka by the end of the game, I could see him about to react like he used to once upon a time.

Taken the Barnes role

People were writing Sonne ,Worrall ,Ekdal and Foster off pre season ,we’ll need them all sooner or later this season.

The one thing about Flemming is he scores spectacular goals. If he can get full match fitness and sharpness he will have a key role to play

This is an issue with this league though. We don't have as many games to give players minutes.
He probably gets an hour or so on Tuesday and then maybe the odd appearance for 10 minutes before the international break.

I presume we will have to have some friendlies during the break. There's not enough minutes going into most of them

I don't think you are but maybe have more faith in what he might be able to provide in the PL. It's far too early to be suggesting he might be third choice and also ignores he may have something to offer playing a little deeper.

Find it strange writing anybody off especially after today.

Ekdal was criticised by virtually everybody last week; today's he's been getting eights and nines.

Zian's pre-season was disrupted and I'm sure he'll contribute.

I think he’ll be playing, but not in place of Foster, we’ve seen Foster play on the left before, however I think it’s more likely he play instead of Hannibal. Behind Foster or Broja, but as others have said, I expect we will see them all start through the season, but don’t expect the three of them to be starting together obviously.

Flemming will get he's chance due to injuries, up to him to take it, but I agree probably doesn't have the pace that either Broja or foster have, but as lot's have said before, he's more of a 10 than a 9.

With the way we are setting up, I don't see much game time for either Flemming or Edwards to be honest. Maybe as impact subs, but not starting.

It's a squad game especially in the Prem, Flemming will get his opportunity, and he will prove his worth.

Bit of a myth this for me now. Flemming may well have arrived as a 10, and I initially thought he might have been intended to play behind Foster and give him more freedom to drift into the channels, but it was increasingly obvious as last season went on that we're moulding him into a 9 and that's the role I expect him to play. I think there's more chance of Foster or Broja playing from wide than there is Flemming starting behind another striker in what would effectively be a front 2.

As for where he fits in the pecking order- I wouldn't worry about that. We're going to need our strikers to get through a whole heap of work to set the platform for the team (and this, not goalscoring is the number 9s main job - noone can score us goals if we don't have a platform) and so we're going to use 2 in every game whether as starter or finisher so there's plenty of work for 3. Much like last season Flemming is a bit short on pre season- he started slowly 12 months ago and got stronger as the season went on and I think he's got the attributes to be a success for us at this level I'm that link man role.

As neither of them can go full tilt for 90 mins, we 100% need both and the chance to grow into the first choice striker

It was evident that on around 60-70 mins a few needed swapping out.
