Re: Dubravka interview
Looks like the lads have ensured he has settled in nicely. Pleased he has managed to move his family too. Seems such a decent measured guy
Re: Dubravka interview
If he plays as well as he interviews he'll be a ripper.

Hoping to be wrong but I’m not convinced so far and fear he could be a weak link for us this season

Re: Dubravka interview
Must have been a bad stream, he did well. Good early goal line save which should have been scored. Minutes later put Sunderland attacker off when 1 on 1 by closing down quickly.
Distribution was good, even skinned one of their strikers in the second half. 8/10 minimum from me on Sat.
Was talking to a Geordie on holiday a few weeks ago and he said he (Dubravka) is miles better than Pope and thinks they sold the wrong player to us.

Sorry, am I missing something here? You didn't go to the game as you had to walk a bit further? Genuinely, I don't know the new arrangements as I was on holiday for the Sunderland game so haven't experienced the match day yet.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 11:04 pmDodgy stick pal, wasn’t willing to walk all the way round past that gate

Re: Dubravka interview
I’ll be honest, I was flicking between our game and villa (my second team).
I thought some of his distribution was a bit suspect from what I’ve seen so far and he seems a bit slow to react at times. In truth, we’ve been spoilt over recent years!
Early days and I’m sure he will be fine, maybe a bit of ring rust, time will tell.

No you aren’t missing anything, some of the fan base can’t manage to ‘walk a bit further’ due to age, illness or injury. I’ve got arthritis in my wrist.Goodclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 11:10 pmSorry, am I missing something here? You didn't go to the game as you had to walk a bit further? I really don't know how to respond to this without, inadvertently, offending.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 11:16 pmNo you aren’t missing anything, some of the fan base can’t manage to ‘walk a bit further’ due to age, illness or injury. I’ve got arthritis in my wrist.

Re: Dubravka interview
Would rather have him than Trafford this season …that is not to say that in the longer term Trafford will not be a better keeper but he is still young for a keeper and has some developing to do. DUbravka looked rock solid against Sunderland and his distribution was noticeably quicker than JT’s.

Re: Dubravka interview
Needs to settle - give him some time. Interesting interview & shows how disruptive it can be to move up sticks to a new place with the family, and then be thrown straight into Premier League action despite his experience. Got lots on his plate and has already shown to be capable. Give him some time and I think he'll prove to be an astute signing for our first year back & with survival the aim.
Re: Dubravka interview
He needs to be on average earnings and have to move house and family to a new location within about 2 months notice to know what disruption means.dvalley69 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 9:08 amNeeds to settle - give him some time. Do you just support teams that play in claret and blue? Are West Ham your third team?Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 11:16 pmNo you aren’t missing anything, some of the fan base can’t manage to ‘walk a bit further’ due to age, illness or injury. I’ve got arthritis in my wrist.
Who do you support when they play each other?

Re: Dubravka interview
Dubravka is an Slovenia International goalkeeper who has a wealth of experience and years in the Premier League as Newcastle's No.1.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 10:54 pmHoping to be wrong but I’m not convinced so far and fear he could be a weak link for us this season
How on earth can he be our weak leak ???
Great signing, 36 or not ...still a quality keeper.

Re: Dubravka interview
Nothing at all from the first two games to have any concerns. Made one good save early on last week, and it was a good save.

Re: Dubravka interview
Seems a really grounded, decent bloke.
As for his performances - I initially thought he was a touch slow getting across to Richarlison's 2nd effort (think it's the slow-mo replay that planted that seed), but watching it again in real time a few times I realised there wasn't much chance. It was a real thunderbolt.
Against Sunderland he was solid, exactly the type of keeper we need this year; dependable, organised, and constantly marshalling the defence.

Sorry fellow Penworthamer but logged on to disagree with you about this.Penwortham_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 28, 2025 10:54 pmHoping to be wrong but I’m not convinced so far and fear he could be a weak link for us this season
Soon after Dúbravka signed for us, I asked one of my mates, a Newcastle season ticket holder, what he thought about it. His exact words were.”Really good keeper. Wish he’d stayed.”
He knows his football so for me, we’ve made an excellent signing.

Re: Dubravka interview
Just watched the interview and he comes across as a top bloke. I’m even happier with this signing now.
