Sad day, but ultimately it's the right thing to do. Whatever happens in a year's time, Benny will always be remembered for his time here.

Will never forget how he took Sunderland apart 2nd half in 4-2 victory away.

Good luck Benny, I hope he starts to enjoy playing football again

Scored the title winning goal at Ewood. For that he’ll be remembered forever.

When does his contract with us end ?. Lets hope he gets game time, avoids injuries and plays as well as he did during his first season with us

Re: ARTICLE: Benson heads to Wales and joins Swansea
Had the incredible knack of popping worldy goals into the top bin on regular occasions. But to do what he did at Ewood to win the league for me more than balanced the embarrassing 5-0 drubbing.
So a big thank you from me and the very best of luck for your loan at Swansea.

Re: ARTICLE: Benson heads to Wales and joins Swansea
Will that take him to the end of his contract with us?
His first season with us was sensational and he was one of a clutch of outstanding, relatively low-value signings that propelled us back to the Premier League. However, his record since then should be a valuable lesson in the importance of being ruthless - it was always unlikely he'd be robust or diligent enough off the ball for the Premier League, and so we should probably have sold him at the top of his value that summer. As it is, his career with us has just gradually fizzled out, and that's a real shame.

Won the league at Ewood, good luck Benny
Re: ARTICLE: Benson heads to Wales and joins Swansea
The game I remember him most for was the first half away at Sheff Utd. As close to unplayable as I've seen at that level. All we did was just give him the ball and he absolutely tore them to shreds.
I do think he's been under utilisednfor us since..even in the prem he could have been very useful as an impact sub. Give him a yard on that left foot and he can find the top.corner, regardless of the opposition.

A really technically gifted footballer with fantastic close control and a lethal shot. .
Phenomenal in the Championship season and he provided so many memorable moments for us under Kompany that year.. If Swansea can provide a platform for him to play from he will be a fantastic signing for them and I really hope he does well there.
Unfortunately he just doesn't have the athleticism/physically for the Premier League.

Might have helped if Kompany had been honest with the board about his plansclaretspice wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 8:27 pmWill that take him to the end of his contract with us?

Good luck to him. Be interesting to see if he stays injury free and whether he has a few more worldies in him.

Strangely, I saw the article confirming his move but it's disappeared now.
Re: ARTICLE: Benson heads to Wales and joins Swansea
Unbelievable player in the championship. I remember his motm display against boro. I was talking to some of their fans in the cricket club and they were asking about him.
I said the problem with him is, you can only get 1 half out of him and then he dissapears. They started laughing and said we couldn't say no to him

Re: ARTICLE: Benson heads to Wales and joins Swansea
Cracking little player but made of glass. The way he plays invites the late foot in. If he can remain injury free he'll do well down there. They'll love him.

Will he go down in Clarets’ folklore as a cult hero? I feel like this description was made for him.

Wouldn’t be surprised if after his contract with us ends he is forced to retire. Such as shame as he has talent. I hope for his sake he can stay for this season or it really could be it for him.

Legend - a far better player than often given credit for, with more to his game than just a left foot as some people seem to think.
I wish him nothing but the best.

A one trick pony but that trick was pretty good! I felt he was a bit soft in that if he got hurt he would always go off.

Lot more to him than that, albeit in fits and starts.TheOriginalLongsider wrote: ↑Mon Sep 01, 2025 9:40 pmA one trick pony but that trick was pretty good! I felt he was a bit soft in that if he got hurt he would always go off.
The ball with the outside of his foot vs Reading for Vitinho (?) and his second half performance vs Boro were outstanding.

I like him too much to make a cheap ‘injured his wrist signing the contract’ gag.
Hope it got sorted for him.

Re: ARTICLE: Benson heads to Wales and joins Swansea
Really sad to see him go, but it had to happen.
A great signing for us, but literally too little physically for the Premier League.
If we manage to stay up, and he has a good season, we have a saleable asset again. If we do go down, he could still do a job for us after the inevitable fire sale.

Looking that way - the confirmation I saw was removed so it looks as if it has it a snag

Interestingly, a report from Wales Online after 11 p.m. last night said the deal was still being worked on.
