Goals Scored

Post by brexit » Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:13 pm

Just picking up a thread here.
We never seem to score many goals, season after season. Of course, the promotion seasons are an exception.
Thinking back to the Dyche era, we didn't score many goals, but we conceded fewer.
We seem to be in dire need of a striker on this board, but from what I recall, we haven't had many effective strikers lately; instead, goals have come from other team members. (Brownhill et al.)
So, do we need to adjust the formation to get the best out of everyone, and lift the pressure off foster so they can score?

Goalscorers cost big money and that, in Premier League terms at least, is something we dont have.

Being good at defending, rather than scoring goals will always give you a better chance of survival.

Big Sam used to say that keeping a clean sheet guarantees you a point, but scoring a goal guarantees you nothing.

Having to score at least two goals to win a match at this level makes it a very tough ask.

And fortunately we're averaging just over 2 goals against per game.

I don't think any system we play will turn Foster into a goalscorer. The goals will have to come from somewhere else.
That's not to say I don't think he can play a role in the squad if he can keep fit, something I'm not confident he can do.

And that's the real quiz.

Our defensive stats are a bit skewed by playing City away and conceding 2 late goals.
We've had a very tough set of away games.
