Covered away end at Stockport

Post by ClaretTony » Fri Oct 10, 2025 6:34 pm

When I read that Stockport were improving Edgeley Park to provide covered accommodation for away supporters, I’m not sure I expected anything quite so substantial.

Who else has a seated end without a roof? Gillingham used to, Brighton at one of their temporary grounds.

JHL and JML do not count!

Takes me back to Moss Lane, was it? Macclesfield's ground.

The tarpaulin above us ripped and we stood uner a deluge.

Pretty sure the Fratton Park away end is seated and uncovered, but may be miss remembering that.

My main memory was a Pompy fan being ejected spitting at me though. Nice.

They've looked at Barrow's crap stands and enlarged them - what a sh****e that is by the way.

It is a bit Micky Mouse but better than standing in the p****ng rain for two hours +

I’ve sat at Fratton Park out in the open but they covered it around 20 years ago.

I remember standing behind that goal in a 1-0 defeat, April 97'. It was quite a hot one, half my face was red raw by the end, the other half, pasty white.

I think it must be a temporary measure for a couple of years to ensure the away end sells out as it can’t be nice sat there over the winter months. They have some decent plans in place for Edgeley Park.

They did on the side - replaced it with that covered temporary stand which has become permanent

Forgot about Swindon, weren't we sat in the longside last time we played on a Tuesday night.

Last time I went Macclesfield, it rained terribly but I don't remember seats! Sodje :x

That day may come around sooner than you would like it to. Stockport made the League One play offs last season and could be sitting in the playoff places again come Saturday evening.

We may laugh, but it will provide better coverage than the lower tiers of the JH and JM.

Bromley doesn't have anything very much. That ground ought to get them kicked out of the league if they don't do something with it. It makes barrow look classy.
Man u famously has a section where the seats arent protected by the roof, of course.

Went there in 1985 and it poured down so we went in the seats to the right as you stand on the away end. Got to half time and it kicked off and ended up being thrown out back into the rain. Except the copper on the gate threatened to arrest us if we didn't get back into the stand only to be met by the copper who kicked us out threatening to arrest us if we didn't get out.

Between a rock and a hard place until the coppers spoke to each other. Then promptly kicked us out back into the open end in the rain.

Last trip to Swindon was in the League Cup in 2012. We were sat in the main stand that night with the open end closed.

Snap.

Back in Burnley afterwards and the girl behind the bar downstairs at the Talbot said “ooh, been out in the sun have you?”

I was in too much pain to even make a sarcastic reply.

Please don’t bring up that Macclesfield game in a monsoon again, the memories have just started fading and I don’t want them back.

Between the horrific rain and worse performance by everyone involved but especially John O’Kane, that was easily one of my worst away day experiences.

In terms of the weather we were among the lucky ones being shifted into the stand (for want of a better word) and under cover. But what an awful result and an awful game on a pitch that was never fit to be played on.

We only found out we’d signed John O’Kane while on our way there. That was news we could have done without.
