Dynamo Brest question
Just been looking through the @burnleygoals page on twitter.
There is a goal showing as 17-12-90 by Ray Deakin against Dynamo Brest.
I can't remember the match. Is the date wrong or any information please?

Re: Dynamo Brest question
No, it will be correct. I went on the game, and we also played Dimano Stavrapol (?) around the same time. Possibly a season either way.
I think we played them on FA Cup 2nd round day as we weren't in it?
I also recall us playing Huddersfield Town (two divisions above us then) for a similar reason. Seem to recall a 1-1 draw but distinctly remember the Longside singing 'we want 10, we want 10' as Huddersfield had been beaten 10-1 at Man City a week or so before.

I recall going on a friendly against a Russian ? Side prior to playing Notts Forest in the league cup 2nd round which would have been around October time of that year.

I went to all those pointless friendlies, I can remember Stavrapol/russian team scoring and the announcer saying "score was number 7, i've no idea how to pronounce his name" ! everyone that heard it laughed

Re: Dynamo Brest question

Programme from the tour to Russia. The Burnley team is a bit out of date. Worked out it's the 88 Wembley squad.
Had coffee with Mike Conroy last week, took this to show him. He was amazed to see it.

I think if you translate the whole programme one of the Russian clubs ,and I think it's that one ,seemed to have confused us with our friends from Oakwell

Re: Dynamo Brest question
All my feelings for Mike Conroy just came rushing back. Confusing.
That pre-season Dynamo Moscow game was a bit of a mismatch.

Re: Dynamo Brest question
I had been having a conversation with Mike Conroy when he told me he had no programmes to look back at, from his time in the game at Burnley. As I had a lot of spare ones, I picked out a selection of games he had featured in.
At the time he had moved to Fulham, so I met him there after the game and handed him a carrier bag to look inside for himself. It was a delight seeing him fingering through them, recalling the matches. It made his day and mine.
A similar thing happened when talking with Ray Pointer, who had lent someone (he couldn't remember who), his scrapbook and they never returned it. I looked through my scrapbooks and picked out lots featuring Ray and presented them to him, which made him happy to then be able to show his grandchildren, some of his goal scoring feats. It was payback for the time as a schoolboy, he autographed about 50 photos I had in a scrapbook.

Re: Dynamo Brest question
Yep. Miss it tremendously. Been here 6 years now, only been home once so far. Been hot this week, temp in the 30's. Miss matchdays mostly, but we've a good thing going here with Melbourne Clarets. Just over 30 of us in and around Melbourne. We'll be in the pub Sunday morning for the game, about 15 of us I think.
Oh, and I miss bacon butties from Paul's at Stubbins!!
