Squad age
We have players out on loan, though not pulling up any trees and only two players in our first team squad under 20! In Connor Mitchell and Aiden O'Neil. The youngest regular being Keane at 23. Average age now 27
Watching Everton yesterday do so well (Holgate & Davies) and other sides starting youth in the league, makes we wonder when we will we see some of our own come to fruition.

Re: Squad age
Who knows but if the likes of Ginnelly and Agyei don't make the grade at least we have squillions in the pot.
The new Gawthorpe and staying up will bring an improvement in who we can entice to sign.
I wouldn't denigrate current youth coaching, I don't know enough about it, but hoping that can be improved also.

Re: Squad age
It seems like we're moving in the right direction in terms of getting players out on loan at a competitive level. Gawthorpe's development will surely help.
An average age of 27 is pretty normal I guess. A nice mix of youth and experience.

Re: Squad age
Whilst I can see the rationale re short term thinking in bringing in the experienced likes of Barton, as it is all about PL survival this season, I would hope that in the summer we would (successfully) target some younger players for the first team. We do need to find the next Ings, Tripper, Keane etc. We do have an fairly ageing squad and, break it gently, the likes of Marney, Boyd, Ward, Barton et al aren't going to be able to do it at the top level for that much longer.
Progression will be all about a younger squad.

Re: Squad age
Depends how many players can move up from the Development squad.
A squad which a couple of years ago had players who were being primed for Championship football eventually, now they need to be prepared for PL/Championship football, so some players could well be weeded out as not being good enough and will need to be replaced, much like the first team squad of any promoted club.
It could be a fairly quick process or could take a number of years, all depends on how good our youth staff are.

Just feeling a little jeleous, especially after Jay returned to such a warm welcome and fond memories. We don't seem to have anything from the development coming through to the first team.
Most teams seems to be bleeding there teenagers in the premier and we have no sign of any!
Appreciate it's not to any detriment as we stànd!

Re: Squad age
Take a look at Chelsea.
Chalobah had 7 or 8 loan spells before he got a chance in the first team and even then it's due to Conte being there, if it was Mourinho I doubt he'd be getting a look in.
Jack Cork made 100 league appearances, but none for Chelsea, before he got his permanent move to Southampton.
Everton are a well established club, who's academy probably has a very good reputation.
That doesn't happen overnight, it can take years but with the upgrades to Gawthorpe Burnley can start building their own reputation.

True the facility upgrade will no doubt help, but the likes of Crewe and Southampton have a conveyor belt of kids. You have to wonder what do they do different?
