Re: Robbie Brady confirmed (speculation)
Its starting to look like we can't agree terms with Brady and haven't even agreed a fee with Norwich.
We shouldn't be surprised. Unless we get another financial partner/ benefactor like all the other premier League teams, we are in a different market for players than the other premier league clubs and many championship teams.
We are wasting our time trying to sign this calibre of player , its laughable from the beginning to believe we could sign the likes of Snodgrass and Brady, even though we all dreamed that it might happen.

They should be looking at us instead of Palace though with that 10 point gapnortheastclaret wrote:Its starting to look like we can't agree terms with Brady and haven't even agreed a fee with Norwich.

We are wasting our time trying to sign Brady? Rubbish. We are rightly trying to sign players that should improve us. It's the complexities of the market and you'd think people would realise that.

Its almost a shame there is a match on Tuesday night, seems a shame to miss the hissy fits on here on deadline day.

The argument that we can't afford the players doesn't stack up.
We had a bid accepted for £10 million for Snodgrass so the money is there.

So how on earth did we sign Handrick & Defour then?

I bloody hope so. We should (should!) have a number of players identified for each position. I'd hope Brady was number 1 and that we're simply able to work backwards down the list. I would hope the club have learned from putting all of their eggs in one basket. (There's perhaps a joke there about Rovers and chickens if anyone wants to have a go at it).Silkyskills1 wrote:'another target'

He appears to be employed as a video analyst for the Professional Football Scouts Association. I'm not sure having a junior job within the PFSA would provide an inside track in itself (nor simply being Irish).
Trawling back through his tweets, I'm not sure he's said a great deal that couldn't be interpreted by reading media articles. There's a fair bit of hedging his bets going on too.
Not to be derogatory to him or his position, but he is essentially a nobody. The reliable sources, whether you like them or not, are Alan Nixon and Chris Boden. People give constant pelters to Bodes on here, but he was first with Rouwen Hennings (when we were all thinking "who?") and was first with the bid for the initial bid for Snodgrass.
Until someone who is reputable says anything to back it up, I won't believe we are close to this signing at all.

Re: Robbie Brady confirmed (speculation)
Please don't let it happen to us yet again. Sunderland may now have £14m for Van Aanholt going to Palace so will they go back in for Brady and we get stitched again ? I don't know why it is but we always seem to get messed about by clubs over transfers, is it something that the club are doing that causes this ? Hopefully we do get Brady but agree with others if he plays tomorrow he 's not likely to be coming to us. This all has a familiar ring to it. We are better placed to stay up this year but we may really screw things up by a failure to land targets and if that happens I think the board will go into meltdown. It is a bit concerning that the teams at the bottom are starting to land their targets. I know things can change and we might have some incomings but we do need to start actively making some more bids and not leave Norwich to screw us over.

Didn't Boden say there was nothing in the Joey Barton story a day before we signed him?jedi_master wrote:Glad someone else has finally thought the same as me.

A local reporter will often be told what to trot out to supporters, and will get the 'go' word only when something is done and dusted (Hennings) or when it suits the club's transfer activity to put the information out there (Snodgrass).Spijed wrote:Didn't Boden say there was nothing in the Joey Barton story a day before we signed him?

We had the "we will start planning for January now" statement on the 1st of September yet it took until the 25th of January ( 6 days before the window closes ) to get a bid accepted for a player.
I know there's a knock on effect, but we do seem like those people who do their xmas shopping on Christmas Eve.
( I still beleive Brady will sign )

Having a foreign owner might bring us more cash but looking around the leagues it also brings heaps of problems ask Leeds, Blackburn etc do you really want that?? I wouldn't swap our Board/owners for anybody.

It's not really a surprise that not a lot has happened, that's how the market works since the transfer windows were introduced.MACCA wrote:I know what you mean.

Hull and Swansea are the only PL teams that have made significant moves in the market before this week and one of those is having to sell their best players to fund those moves.

Leeds have had turmoil, for sure, but they are on the cusp of the PL. Playing well, good team and a good manager in Monk.
If they get up, with their size, they will stay up.

Not surprised it's going to the wire. Unless we are buying from a lower league and/or cash strapped team we haven't the financial or brand clout to get deals done early.
Any Prem or stable Championship side with player worth selling to us is going to keep their options open as long as possible and play the market.

Forget Brady, we cannot rely on Norwich getting their own house in order before we can sign him, the risk is too great.
Re: Robbie Brady confirmed (speculation)
We shouldn't forget Brady if there's still a decent chance of signing him. That doesn't stop us being interested in other players. There's often a chain reaction in the transfer market and/or clubs holding out for the best possible fee. That's why we usually see a frantic last few hours. It's par for the course.

How can we have a frantic last few hours if all managers are at games until at least 10pm. That's a helluva last frantic hour and a lot of private jets

I assume nothing will be happening today, and weekends don't usually have anything going on, so that leaves Monday to sign 3-4 players.

Factually we have until Tuesday night not Monday.
14 out of the 20 teams have games on Tuesday night, probably just us though who can't sign a player on the day of a game.

Boden's only source of info on Brady has been O'connor so he's not in the loop, he only finds things out by getting it from the other teams local reporter which we all can do if we follow them on twitter.jedi_master wrote:Glad someone else has finally thought the same as me.
