Best I've seen us play this season

Post by NRC » Tue Jan 31, 2017 9:36 pm

Should have had a penalty on Keane, got the break with our goal, but in between we threw everything at them. Fabulous energy. I thought they were going to do to us what we did to manyoo.... but well done lads. On we go....

We were outstanding.

Can I just say, the two best players on the pitch - Jeff Hendrick and Joey Barton. They were absolutely perfect. What a pleasure to see Joey Barton rolling back the years at this level, he is proving himself to be as effective as when he was in his early 20's at City. Whatever happens with his ban, we absolutely need to tie him down for another season.

I'd throw Boyd and Barnes into that mix. I'm not a fan of either, but credit where it's due, they were fantastic tonight

Other than the odd moment of madness (lowton and heaton), we were excellent all round.

Cheeky mention for Scotty Arfield.

Scotty Arfield was immense tonight. Got right up to the pace of the game from the moment he walked on the park.

What a night to be a Claret.

They all played well but Arfield gave the ball away and nearly cost us a goal on the breakaway tonight.

Unbelievable when we have a midfield pairing that can retain the ball. I like mArney but far too often he will just hoof it into the channels or aimlessly. Tonight as well the midfield pair I thought Lowton and Ward were amazing running up and down the wings. They never stopped as we had to be weary of the break

Fantastic tonight. Barton immense, Arfield superb and finally Hendrick, those who said he was over priced were totally totally wrong, add Brady and we are a real force.

That's extremely harsh, Rowls. He was barely outside their penalty area and you'd expect the cover to be in.

Was listening in on ClaretsPlayer (will watch the full game tomorrow). Sounded like an excellent performance and a thoroughly deserved win. It's hard to single out players tonight - any one could have been MOTM.

Dyche should be praised for his use of substitutions in particular.

In truth it was a really awful free-kick, and it cost Lowton a yellow card in trying to recover the position, but every player is allowed the odd mistake, and it was one of Arfield's best games in recent times I thought.

Harsh but unfortunately all true. It's fine, fine margins in the Premier League. I'm Scotty's biggest fan but that is what happened.

What a game, still buzzing big time.
Barton deserves a new contract on that performance alone.
Hendricks was also immense.
What a day.

Couldn't agree more. What a day to be a claret. And just goes to show that you need to take some of the keyboard warriors on here with a pinch of salt. Barton couldn't cut it in the prem, Hendrick(no 's') was a waste of money. The same types have even been spouting nonsense about Westwood before he has even kicked a ball. It doesn't get better than this but still they aren't satisfied!

Defensively, Lowton was absolutely fantastic tonight. Going forward he was very good, just the odd over enthusiastic cross away from a perfect performance.

If you can pick a man of the match out of that lot then you're a better man than me.

Gray - The strength for f***ks sake :o
Barnes - Just being Ashley and then some
Hendrick - Everything you want in a midfielder and fast becoming my favourite player
Barton - Too late for England? Warburton, you're a dummy
Ward - He's just gets better with every game. Irish Cafu ;)
Keane - Oh look Vardy is well pacy and favourite for the ball, Keane shifts up to the 2nd of his 10 gears and the cheat has lost it
Mee - Drop him for Tarky? Are you f**kin mental?
Boyd - I'd love to see his pitch heat map. Most of the pitch would be like the surface of the sun.

If you did look back I was being very guarded about Hendrick, I work with several derby season ticket holders who said he had 1 good game in 6.
Now either they did not see what we are or Dyche has got consistency out and f him.

Perhaps we need Dyche
On a 4 year deal at least.

Dyche had done enough to let most of us trust him to get on with it way before we signed Hendrick but glad you have now given him such a glowing vote of confidence.

Thought they played some good stuff tonight which makes Ranieri's post match comments even more laughable. Barton deservedly man of match but Hendrick not far behind him. Defence excellent as well.

Just got home and still buzzing. I have been incredibly impressed for some time, but tonight I felt the club stepped up to a new level. Premier League professional on and off the pitch. Announcing Brady's signing at half time such a good touch too, rather than letting Sky have the story first. UTC.

We looked a lot more comfortable with the ball tonight, than we have in the few league games our possession stats were high.
West Bromwich away, Pulis did a job on us West Ham away, particularly 2nd half.
Tonight we used it better.
Then again, we didn't have Joey in those games. ;)

What a fantastic time to be a Claret. I've experienced the highs and lows like quite a few others on here over the years but this period is right up with the best. We've had some very good performances this season, but last night was easily our best. In the context of the game it's difficult to to single one player out as they were all immense. However I have to say Barton's performance was up with the very best over the years.

This is, quite simply, the best Clarets' Team I have ever seen, and last night, with the addition of Westwood Andy Brady, it got even better.

Excellent performance; absolutely dominated the midfield.

Only minor criticism was the number of poor crosses put in from very good positions. A bit more quality there and we could have had more goals which our performance would thoroughly deserved.

They played some wonderful stuff.
Boyd and Defour/Arfield tucking in to allow Lowton and Ward acres of space.
Only negatives were their deliveries and the freedom Mahrez was given by getting into the area behind Ward. A better side could have hurt us there.
The passing since Joey came back as improved immeasurably. He just keeps them all ticking along.
