Sunderland fans

Post by claretandblue » Sun Feb 12, 2017 6:04 pm

Just had a browse on their message board and there was a thread titled, "Is That Burnley Squad Better Than Ours?"

The first post is quite hilarious...

Just looking at Burnley v Chelsea and if been impressed with Burnley. But don't seem to great team.

Heaton - good keeper
Ward - Championship player
Lowton - not good enough for Villa
Mee - Championship player
Keane - as good as Kone?
Brady - can be hit or miss
Westwood - couldn't get into the Villa team
Barton - past his best
Boyd - Championship player
Barnes - Championship player
Gray - average

On paper you'd think we'd be on par with them.

Keane - as good as Kone is a personal favorite of mine

How can you take somebody serious who can't even string a sentence together?

But don't seem to great team

Plus:

Keane - as good as Kone?

How thick can one person be? I'm surprised they knew how to press the submit button.

I agree. Virtually every comment in that thread believes that Burnley have better players or a better squad and stronger team mentality than Sunderland (and a better manager of course). The posters mostly offer a sensible, realistic view about Burnley.

Keane and Mee would walk into our defence. Would take Brady, Gray and Defour as well.
Just take a moment to absorb that statement.

It's not so long ago that if there was a debate about the quality of our squad we'd be talking about other prem sides in this way. Now we have a supporter of a side that has been at the top table for 10 years wishing they could replace half their side with half of ours!

Interesting that one poster said that SD should have walked out after we didn't back him after the first promotion and tipped up at Sunderland. While I worried at the time that it might happen, it now seems clear that SD had bought into all aspects of the Burnley re-build and accepted that our first tilt at it was what it was - give it a crack and find out where we need to be. The stuff that is going on throughout the club now shows that the long term plan for Burnley from the directors was not only spot on but quite brilliant.

I had worried that SD may call time at this seasons end but given there is so much still in progress I can see him staying on at least until he feels he has done all he can to secure the club and its future.

Must admit, I find the Sunderland fans on the whole some of the most sensible I've come across in their opinions. There are the muppets who follow them, just like we have but on the whole I like Sunderland fans

I was out with my mate last weekend on a drinking session. He's a Sunderland fan and thinks they're already down - he goes on most home games and he said this when he was sober. Not sure I want to go drinking with him again anytime soon though as they won 4-0 and we got a man sent off.

Don't worry everyone - I'm here!!

Your miles better than us.

Out of out entire squad Pickford, Kone and Defoe are the three I'd say would get in your team.

None of the others!!

Kirchoff is class but ALWAYS injured.
Catts has been a big miss.

Can't speak for the new lads yet, they could be ok?!

Only Hazard (and I'd be having words about end product) and Kante would get in our team. Costa and Cahill (for sentimental reasons) could warm our bench.

Too much?

As a few on this thread have already said, a lot of our fans really do actually like you!!

Honestly, not saying it because I came on here to sell books a month or so ago, it's true.

Every club has some fans who dislike other clubs for various reasons. Some of our fans may have an individual reason to dislike you but overwhelmingly you're liked.

Appreciate your thoughts rejected, but.... Pickford is good and no mistake. But he would need to wait for an injury to England's no1 to get his chance. So too would kone. Defoe would start EVERY game no doubt.

Djilibodje would struggle to get a start in a league 2 game. What were you THINKING???

I reckon he has it about right.....i mean were any of our players (inc subs) playing premier league football last season?

however we have organisation, superb fitness levels, a great team spirit and a home crowd that gets behind tbe team.

Yeah if you read through a few pages, it's clear that their admiration is through a frustration of not being anywhere near as good as us.

It also goes to show the "Keeping Up With The Jones" mentality of buying players that don't fit with your squad/style of play. Just because someone spends £30m+ on a player doesn't mean that they are better than some lad who's made the step us from the Championship that was bought for 250K. Some Sunderland fans think because they have spent X times more money on their squad than compared with ours that a higher position should be legitimised.

But really it just goes to show how badly their own purchases have been.

And for that it makes me even more proud of how much we have achieved over the last few years and what SD has done. It is remarkable.

That's as well balanced as most things you'd read on here.

Maybe a couple of years ago Sean would have been interested if the opportunity had come up but there's no way he would have been given the time to build something sustainable there.

I'm sure he's appreciative of the freedom he has here to do things his own way, within budget of course.

Reading through some of the posts on that thread though Sunderland fans would have never given players like Arfield and Boyd a chance. By their own admission they don't know who a lot of our players are.

Someone has to completely change the culture there. It might take a relegation to do it as that would give them the chance to invest in the kind of players who have been so successful for us - by the tone of that thread if they somehow survive it will just be more of the same O'Shea, Lescott, Gibson etc.

Agree gullerbull - I just spent 30mins reading every comment and feel ever so smug + proud!

The progress our club has made is remarkable and the board, players, fans and particularly Dyche should be rightly proud!

To have fans of another established premier side speak so well of 'all things Burnley' is so pleasing!
