**Speed camera alert**
For anyone who travels on Padiham Road, be careful as outside Brassey Street Methodist church/Emma's news/Top of Dugdale Road there is a police speed check van.
It is getting people coming from Padiham at the moment, but they usually swaps sides later in the day.

Re: **Speed camera alert**
There was a camera van parked on Colne Rd by the Oaks last Sunday morning
A car had parked behind it with his boot open blocking the line of sight and was just stood alongside it looking very pleased with himself

Re: **Speed camera alert**
Saw the van in Cliviger last week. Thankfully, lots of motorists coming the other way were flashing their light and hand signalling.
This clearly was an attempt to catch Lincoln who did not know that stretch of road. They swap sides to catch people coming away from the game.

They need to get their priorities right and start catching a few lowlifes instead of sat on their arses collecting cash from careless motorists.....they still have not arrested the guy who stole the safe from Donald Smiths shop 2 weeks ago...they have very clear cctv stills of the scrote yet he is still at large........

I hate driving in Lancashire, speed and mobile cameras everywhere.
Non of that Sh*t in Manchester, non of the speed cameras have film in and you hardly ever see mobile cameras about.
The M60 average speed limit of 50mph is ********, I travel on the stretch regularly at 70mph and never receive a caution.
Lancashire Police want to get there act together and do some proper policing instead off trying to raise money through the poor motorist
UTC off to Hull

They are all moneymaking schemes.
My dad has recently been done, along with many others, on the fishergate bus lane.
Not a bus lane one way but is the other but lack of signage has generated nearly £1.5m in fines over 4mths

Look out for a camera van half a mile either side of the hapton Inn. Especially Saturday and Sunday mornings. They park in the optimum position to get you without you being able to see them.
It so cynical and f*** all to do with road safety. Nothing. Pure a cash cow for their future copper bottomed pensions.

Caught me going up Manchester road near old bull and butcher away from the van so they are doing you both ways now, don't think the look I gave them when I drove past helped, I was also flashing the cars coming down at the time to warn them!
Its actually just driven up Manchester road now so likely to be parked up around dunnockshaw.

Re: **Speed camera alert**
Very public spirited of you macca.
If it's in an area where they (the authorities) can PROVE there has been a spate of accidents/casualties/deaths that can be attributed to doing 34 in a 30, or 56 in a 50, (not some muppet doing 80 in a 40 in his souped up lease hire Mercedes) then fair enough.
Cash cow. Nothing more, nothing less. Far more dangerous things going on on our roads, but a lack of actual traffic police means the roads truly are a dangerous place.
I have an IAM qualification, and a diamond advanced driving qualification, as well as being qualified to drive everything except PSV, and I was fined for speeding up beamish hill near skipton. Half nine Sunday morning, roads empty, nothing coming either way, road conditions dry and perfect for driving. My lane going up became double lane, the other side didn't. My speed naturally increased as I wrongly thought it was dual carriageway. Quickly realised it wasn't and slowed, but too late. Car tucked away into an entrance to a field got me. 56 in a 50.
Pulled over, and immediately wrote the ticket. I was calm and polite at all times, fully expecting to have my error explained, but nothing. Zero communication. I explained that I realised my error, asked him if he had seen the IAM badge in the back window, to which he looked up and "harrumphed". I then asked, rather sarcastically, if he could offer some road safety advice. If I'd got a lecture, AND the ticket, I could've taken it on the chin, but this experience had nothing to do with road safety. A crime had been commuted, detected, solved and punishment issued in moments. He couldn't wait to get back to it. One for the league tables I suppose.
Anyway, I should've known better, but a momentary lapse in concentration can cost you. Don't get me wrong, I was STILL concentrating on my driving, I wasn't playing chess or anything, but more annoyed with the lack of common sense applied and road safety advice than the fine and points.

Re: **Speed camera alert**
You were very unfortunate to get pulled at 56 in a 50 zone anyway, since it is around the 10% "leeway" that is usually accepted, so he definitely wanted to "do you".
"The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) issued revised speed enforcement policy guidance in 2013. It suggests that enforcement will normally occur when a driver exceeds the speed limit by a particular margin. The particular margin is normally 10 per cent over the speed limit plus 2 mph."
So that's 57 / 58.

Re: **Speed camera alert**
I have never had a speeding fine in all my 21 years of driving.....but then I don't travel at 35 in a 30 to get to my destination a couple of minutes earlier.....
In fact I find it quite funny watching people come up behind me fast as I'm travelling at the speed limit and I watch them sitting 2 foot off my bumper flailing their arms around like a lunatic because they are being forced to travel behind me at 30 in a 30.....
There is sometimes a speed camera on Ridge Row in Burnley....and if I know it's there and I'm heading that way with one of the lunatics behind me....I'll indicate and pull over at the bottom of the hill to watch him/her then get their foot down and go flying past me even faster than ever because they have be freed from my "ridiculous behaviour" of travelling at the ACTUAL speed limit....and they'll then floor it straight into the speed camera....
Perfect justice for sitting 2 foot off my bumper trying to push me along to go faster....

Shouldnt be able to ticket you from the opposite side of the road, this is due to the cosine effect ws the camwra pans at an angle giving incorrect readingsProudjohn wrote:I got caught at Laneshawbridge coming round the bend from Emmott Arms. The van was parked on the opposite side of the road.I saw it instantly and it was a long way off.But it still got me.You just have to take it on the chin, speed awareness here I come.

They regularly park on Gisburn road in blacko. In their defence I regularly see cars doing double the speed limit and over taking - it's a 30mph zone

Re: **Speed camera alert**
If you deliberately drive a stupid amounts over the speed limit, then you deserve the points and more. Even if you think the speed limit is set too low, it's no great inconvenience to stick to it. The problem I have with speed cameras is that people who speed all the time, on purpose, usually get away with it because they're watching for speed cameras all the time. People who drive normally, sensibly, and who spend more time looking out for hazards like children and less time looking for cameras, get caught.Proudjohn wrote:I got caught at Laneshawbridge coming round the bend from Emmott Arms. The van was parked on the opposite side of the road.I saw it instantly and it was a long way off.But it still got me.You just have to take it on the chin, speed awareness here I come.

Speed kills ... its annoying with these sneaky cameras but there are some right cocks on the road and they are usually the speeders or the ones up your car boot. I laugh at the drivers that have to overtake you, just to get a car length in front of you... saw a mortobike of sorts riding the length of the chevrons stone trough area yesterday how he wasnt in a collision god knows.i think donald will be covered by his insurance....The Enclosure wrote:They need to get their priorities right and start catching a few lowlifes instead of sat on their arses collecting cash from careless motorists.....they still have not arrested the guy who stole the safe from Donald Smiths shop 2 weeks ago...they have very clear cctv stills of the scrote yet he is still at large........

Re: **Speed camera alert**
I know exactly where you were caught cos i was caught in exactly the same place. Where the road opens up into a duel carriage way it feels as though its a 60 but theres about 400 yards of road thats still a 50. They park just at the perfect place for them to catch you before YOU see them. I and 3 other cars were beind a little old lady coming up the hill and once the road opens up its your chance to get a bit of a head of steam you'll need for the big steep drag ahead. I reckon all 3 of us will have got a ticket. I was going to in laws in Newcastle. I make that run over blubberhouses regularly and they're there alot. 57 in a 50 that given another 60 yards wouldve been a 60. They sometimes park just infront of the National speed limit sign. Which rubs it in even more cos if they were a few yards further down the road you'd see em! Cynical and very frustrating.bobinho wrote:Very public spirited of you macca.

Who said it was 70? No one said it was 70. Did you hear 70? I didn't hear 70.
It goes from 50 to 60. Not 70. 60.
I can understand your confusion, people tend to hide information in written text.

Or sure if everyone is aware, but it is a criminal offence to warn other drivers of the presence of a speed camera. Quite a few people have been prosecuted recently for this.

I drive a lot of miles and 4 years ago got up to 12 on my licence ( all crappy niggly 6 or 7 miles over the limit jobs). . Had to go to the magistrates and plead to keep my licence. They retired behind the scenes for about 20 mins and it was only then when I was sweating did it dawn on me how hard it was going to be for me and my family if I got a 6 month ban.
Fortunately they let me off but you're on a knife edge till some points drop off and literally have to drive like Miss Daisy. However it works - 2nd gear in a 30, set the limiter or cruise control whenever you can and just get it into your mindset not to speed by just getting used to driving slow
It pisses loads of people off behind you but they ain't going to give you a lift when you're banned. Clean licence now for a year or so.
