Stafford Rangers
Re: Rare league grounds
Went to Workington for a League Cup game mid sixties, and Southport for a friendly and spent an hour or two outside the police station thanks to a few idiots causing a bit of trouble. The same thing happened on the way back from a League Cup game at Hereford I got home about 4 am.

Re: Rare league grounds
Two pairs of 'rare' grounds: Wimbledon's current ground in Kingston-upon-Thames and their original ground at Plough Lane and Maidstone United's old home in Dartford, Kent, and their current ground at the Gallagher Stadium with its G3 pitch.
Re: Rare league grounds
I'd add Huish Park, Yeovil to that list. Before 3 years ago we hadn't played them (and I hazard a guess we won't be doing again for a long while)

I was at the Stafford Rangers cup tie. Was that our only ever visit?

Goldstone in the 70's, and a few years ago St Albans at home to Wimbledon.
St Albans isn't far from here to be fair.

We MAY have played BR at Bath more than once, but when I saw us play them there I'm sure we lost 3-0.vinrogue wrote:Just remembered Twerton Park, Bath. I watched us play against Bristol Rovers (when they didn't have a ground) and I think we won but my memory is sketchy on results as I always think we won!!
Re: Rare league grounds
Re claretfern, I've seen a QOS v Clyde game not long after Ted McMinn finished at Burnley, who also played for them. My Uncle knew a director at the club and introduced me to him around 1960. He invited me to look around the ground to see the magnificent trophy the club won around 1923 in a European tournament, then dubbed as the first European trophy won by a British team. At the Clyde game with a fellow Claret,we got the chance to go into the club and see the trophy again and was told Ted was also there to watch the game.

Re: Rare league grounds
I went to that game. Went with a few mates in a shagged out Ford Granada. We got passed by a Renault 5 Turbo with some Rovers fans who i think were playing WBA. We got the Gareth Hunt Nescafe wave and the usual. When they pulled in behind on the M6, an empty beer can left our car straight into the front of theirs. They declined our offer to pull in at the next services.Dark Cloud wrote:I was at the Stafford Rangers cup tie. Was that our only ever visit?
At the ground, wall collapsed at half time and Collymore played a blinder. As for rare grounds, i will go for Stevenage, a ground i don't think Burnley have ever played at.
Re: Rare league grounds
I've been to a lot of those already mentioned but would like to add Ebbw Vale for a Monday night friendly after I'd already driven down to Cardiff on the Saturday for another friendly.
On the England front a couple that stand out were Azerbaijan (Baku) and Moldova (Chisinau) which was the day after I'd seen us play at The New Den against Millwall.

Yep, and I think Collymore (or McGoldrick?) might have scored for Stafford. We went on the train and drank in Newcastle-u-Lyme I think. I got done and almost arrested by a copper for popping into the ladies inside the ground for a much needed urination when the queue at the (one??) gents went almost round the entire ground!Herts Clarets wrote:I went to that game.
