Post by holycustard » Thu Mar 09, 2017 7:40 pm

Stoke have played 28 games
3 teams have played 26
The rest 27 i dont understand it
two of them will play each other so thats one left on 26 the rest on 27 and stoke still on 28
it must be a simple answer but i dont get it. :D

If you take away one fixture that Stoke have played, then you'd have 4 on 26 and the rest on 27, which works. Possibly :o)

Stoke played City the other night.

ManU and Soton played league cup final - and, so two other teams missed league fixtures. I think City were one of these, but have now played Stoke.

So, last w/end 4 had played 26 and all others 27. Least I think this is how it works.

It's an even number of teams thats an odd number of games left 16 teams x 11 games is an even number of games 176 games - 3 have 12ve = 36 stoke have 10 even number of games left.
It matters not that 1 team has played 1 more than the norm and that 3 have played 1 less but it is an even 4 games outside the norm which is also an even amount
So together they are divisible by 2

Imagine Stoke and Man City had not played. That what put Stoke on 27 and four teams on 26.

We've had 27 rounds of fixtures. Every club would have played 27 if all fixtures had been played.

Arsenal, Man United, Southampton and Man City all missed playing in week 26 because of the League Cup final, so knock one off for them.

Stoke and Man City have played an extra match, having sneaked their week 28 fixture forward by a few days. So you can add one for those two teams.

And what you're left with Arsenal, Soton and ManU all a game down, Stoke a game up, and ManC plus one and minus one so they're back where they ought to be.

If 18 teams play each other and Stoke and one of the teams on 27 don't play then 16 teams will have played 28 and 4 teams will have played 27. If those 4 teams on 27 play each other then all teams will have played 28, SIMPLES :)
