I think that it was something to do with him having to arrange it, but he never did.Steve1956 wrote:Never get a testimonial game?
Anyway someone will be along shortly to say how much of a crap goalkeeper he was and how he wanted to leave Burnley several times.
Re: Why did the Beast
I have to say IMO he had one good season with us in 2008-09 and we were promoted. He had some fantastic performances that season.
although he was with us for the 10yrs he wanted away more than once

The beast was phenomenal in the main it seemed a strange setup regarding the testimonial I was under the impression it's something the club arranges not the player himself.

It was frowned upon on Clarets Mad if you ever shouted BEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSTTT at the Turf.
10 years he was with us but he committed the cardinal sin of wanting to go elsewhere because he wasn't getting a game.
Yet Rodders, Ings and Trippier who all went at the first opportunity, remain in our hearts.
Oh and Blake who went and came back. Maybe it's a goalkeeper thing for some of us.

Re: Why did the Beast
I think the player organised a committee that organises the whole year of events. Not the club, they just give permission to use the ground.
Re: Why did the Beast
He saw off allegedly better keepers throughout his stay.
His 'getting away/offers' always surfaced when it was time to negotiate a new contract. Nothing in it.

Re: Why did the Beast
I suppose in theory it could still happen at some point in time?
Is there any legislation preventing it from still happening?

Wasn't it Benfica he was allegedly linked with?

Fray Bentos, I think.
No, to be fair, I liked him - he is one of those players to whom we should be very grateful. He is a big part
of our glorious recent past.

Pretty sure none of those left at the first opportunity.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Yet Rodders, Ings and Trippier who all went at the first opportunity, remain in our hearts.

Re: Why did the Beast
He was trying to sort it throughout the summer of 2013, but for whatever reason it never happened. One of our more popular keepers, and regardless of people's thoughts on transfer requests he stayed for 10 years. That's some going these days.
He had an absolutely fabulous season in 2008-09, but was very average for the rest of the time I'd say, with a few great games and some very poor games. Still well thought of.

Re: Why did the Beast
Not far off though. It was a poor effort by the club we should have pulled out all the stops to ensure brian got the testimonial he richly deserved. He could have upped stick numerous times but was loyal to the core.Tall Paul wrote:Pretty sure none of those left at the first opportunity.
Re: Why did the Beast
I think for tax purposes the Club can't get involved in organising it.

Re: Why did the Beast
In reality I don't think it is worth it for players of our club. We don't have the attendances big enough in early cup rounds never mind a testimonial.
Duff chose Bradford as a pre season friendly as they would of been cheap, but an 8k gate at £10 adults £5 kids might not even cover costs.
