They won't miss him, although the bench might do.

Shame, bit of a sour ending but he was a very good player for us with over 100 consecutive starts and who couldn't forget his goal against B*stards. I don't wish to see any player injured.

neither me - but Stirling having to 'go-off' after Ben Mee 'tackled' him at Turf Moor pleased me!

It's turned out to be a pretty disastrous career move for him although financially perhaps he's OK.

That was only ever his motive. What division he plays in is second fiddle. You don't need to meet the guy to know he's a 24 carat bellend.Hipper wrote:although financially perhaps he's OK.

There's only so long you can carry around an ego the size of Shackell's before you do serious damage to your back.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
He was a very good player for us and a good captain
To be fair he joined Burnley in pretty much the same way as he left us...and in the same way as he left most of his previous clubs and from that point of view we should not really hold that against him.
It sounds like he was a bit of a d-ick in the way he left us and from all accounts he was a bit / lot up his own ars-e and not the most popular of players. He will have made a fortune going to Derby and whilst i`m not delighting his injury I do not like Derby at all and have been pretty happy that things have not turned out well for Shackell and Derby.
From a Clarets point of view losing Shackell turned out to be a massive blessing in disguise. I`m sure Keane would have broke into the team sooner rather than later but Keane and Burnley must have benefited from losing Shackell.
Moving Ben Mee to the middle and playing Ward at left back has improved us significantly aswell....and Heaton getting the captaincy might be more than just co-incidence with his upturn in form.
Winner winner chicken dinner (which is what Shacks might be having now he aint playing !!)

I'm a bit bemused by these anti-Shackell threads. He did a great job for us but hasn't been missed.

He seemed to be the defensive scapegoat for their rubbish start.

Shackell was a very good player for us, he didn't leave in a great way but we haven't missed him one bit, so it's worked out well for both parties. He's got his money and we went to a different level.

And remember he carried on scoring for Burnley even when he was a Derby player. Anyone got that commentary with Phil Bird, Lukas Jutkiewicz, and another player (can't remember who) laughing their socks off?

Cracking defender for us and instrumental in our first promotion under Dyche. He went we moved on. Don't get the problem some have with him.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
I think I read on here that he told Sean at the beginning of the first PL season that he wanted to eventually move on. If that's true then you have to applaud the bloke's professionalism because he was absolutely brilliant for us in Dyche's first PL season. Certainly didn't look like a player who wanted away. Okay...okay, might have been playing for a contract but if you ask me I want eleven players playing for a contract.

One of the best central defenders we've had since I started watching. I have no problem with him leaving for money, its a job, that's just football these days. It won't stop some posters on here from talking sh*** though and acting like he was crap for us. Its funny how some posters claim he's a d*ck without ever actually meeting him especially when he did no media.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
Howe had been chasing Shackell for a while but when he finally came I don't know if he was all that good. Only with Dyche did things get more organised defensively.
I think he got married to an American girl the summer he left - possibly that was a consideration in his move.
If he had stayed surely it would have been Duff that would have been replaced by Keane - Shackell and Keane sounds like a pretty formidable arrangement.

Excellent player for us. Left for financial reasons to join a club in the same league as us. Plus they were fancied more for promotion given us losing Ings and Trippier as well. All in all i understand why he left but it's turned out to be a disastrous move for him.
Re: Shackell out for rest of season
15/20 year career at the most if your lucky. Which could be ended at anytime due to injury. Can you blame players for wanting more money. Its not like he turned down the chance if winning trophies is it?

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
He was a good player for us and a good leader on the pitch. I will always be thankful for that goal versus Rovers
However considering he was captain it was amazing how rarely we saw him interviewed or indeed taking part in the various charity events. I think a captain should be a bit more active and present and I think Tom Heaton does that well.

He did what most people would do and went chasing the money! Short career in retrospect.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
Shackell was great for us. We got him for relative buttons, he played great for us, scored two goals at Ew*ood Park, and was unbeaten in 4 games against the Venkys in the process.
He helped us get promoted as runners-up to Leicester.
When he played against his old club Derby, he scored a belter, and when he came back to the Turf in a white shirt, he was instrumental in a Derby collapse that will live long in my memory; one that also provided one of the greatest moments on Commentary Cam.
Add to that that when we sold him back to Derby we made a very tasty profit, and Jason Shackell'a contribution to Burnley FC's last few years has been a memorable one.
Get well soon Jason.

One from the past move on.
Re: Shackell out for rest of season
The fact he did no media points to him being a bit of a d-ick for a start. He had zero relationship with the fans or the local community and at our club that is something that is important.KRBFC wrote:One of the best central defenders we've had since I started watching. Yes players careers are short lived and I have no objection whatsoever to a player leaving for a better financial deal as this is how we got Shackell in the first place. At the same time there is a better way to do this than the way he did.
You could see from the reaction of Juke and Barnes that he was not the most popular of players with his team mates either.
The best bit about what has happened is the gloating Derby fans. When we first bought him they told us he was a traitor, only coming to us for the money and no good anyway. Then when he left us they were gloating at the coup of capturing our captain and how they were a much bigger club than us.
As said Shackell was a very good captain for us and scoring at Ewood and his face when he scored is something that will live with us for ever. We got good money for him and as a team immediately became better. He has made a lot of money and can show his grand children dvds of how Derby just missed out on the play offs 6 years in a row !!

If he was a very good captain why was he not popular with the players. That doesn't make sense.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
He didn't need to be very popular with the players, he just needed to lead them.
Maybe he poked around with someone elses missus, it's rumoured that's why he left Derby in the first place to sign for us.
It's also rumoured that's why Pardew moves around a bit.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
He may be a real life A*hole but when he was wearing Claret and Blue, he was our A*hole. As Captain he always gave his all when he was on the pitch.
Many good leaders are unpopular because they are good leaders.

Re: Shackell out for rest of season
Was a very good player for us but wasn't popular at all off the field.
As it happens we've benefited from him going because it pushed Keane into a regular place earlier than might have been the case.

Presumably so but when he left the club's media manager tweeted that the dressing room was a much happier place. Someone I know who knows Shackell well told me he's very aloof.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:Obviously popular with Dyche.
But, undoubtedly, on the pitch a very good player for us under Dyche. Absolutely no question about that.

Yep suppose each to their own off the pitch.
