Fastest player to have played for the Clarets ?

Post by BurnleySYS » Wed Mar 29, 2017 5:32 pm

I cant think of many to be honest have we ever had anybody that was lightning fast ?

A few that pop into my head are Nathan Dyer,David Johnson,Mo Camara ?

Id say our current team are pretty slow collectively as a group compared to most teams.

Steve Kindon was supposed to be a whippet, 'a sideboard on wheels' as described by the banged up Stewart Hall. Comparing against players from a different generation is hard.

Not that I think he's rapid, but isnt Gray up there with the fastest sprinters in the premier league this season?

Junior Bent was quick when he came on loan. We soon trained that out of him.

Steve Kindon was extremely fast,he could have chosen a career as a pro rugby league player but chose football..

Steve Kindon who was once described as having the strength of a cart horse the speed of a race horse and the brains of a rocking horse Steve relates to this in his after dinner speeches, top man a great night out.

Would love to have seen Gray and Kindon starting on their own 18 yard line, a ball being punted upfield towards the oppo goal and being told "GO" and see them race and out-wrestle each other on the way to the ball

Once he got up to speed, Kindon, but it took him a few strides to get there, not to mention the thinking time.

We were away at Stockport on one sunny afternoon back in the 1980s and me and my mates ended up at the front row at pitch level - I have been to Edgeley Park many many times and my memory is hazy but I am sure we were down one of the sides rather than behind the nets on this occasion - we may have even been in the home end.

Anyhoo....we saw John Francis sprinting past us and were amazed at how fast he was as we were so close to him....we then saw Junior Bent sprint past Super Jonny Francis and thought WOW....he was super quick !

George Porter, Zavon Hines, Cameron Stewart and Dane Richards were all rapid - just a shame about the rest.

Kindon was incredibly quick, but not many quick players like that around in his day.

Seem to recall during the 90's there was a race to find the fastest player and Francis was our entrant

Can't recall if he won it overall tho

John Francis springs to mind because he was playing in a good team that scored a lot of goals. He left a lot of very average league two defenders in his wake. We were quite a quick and athletic team all round. Eli, Conroy, Harper and Farrell were all very mobile too.

Just googled John Williams Swansea City and he won the Rumbelows Sprint Challenge in 1992....don't know if John Francis was in the same year / thing

Fair enough! It's still pretty good going running at full pelt with an ironing board up your coat! I saw Kindon and he was ****ing fast and ****ing brilliant and I THINK I saw Dane Richards, but I blinked and sort of missed him, but that was nothing to do with how fast he was! But Ooooh George gets my vote simply because nobody else could do it whilst carrying a household item of any size!!!

Saw Steve Kindon destroy West Ham with his pace as we battered them at the Turf.I was also at Plymouth when Super Johnny Francis left their defence in his wake as he ran from his own half passing the keeper who rushed towards him and knocked in the ball.
Both had pace to burn but so has Andre, he just needs balls played on the ground to get the most from his natural talent.

The Rumbelows Sprint Challenge was class. You can find the North East heat and the Final on You Tube but I've not been able to find the North West heat unfortunately. Cheap and cheerful TV!

42 posts, and no-one's mentioned Les Lawrence?

(George Oghami had bought an ironing board, a security man accused him of nicking a packet of screws as well, and Oghani hit him with the ironing board. He was never charged with shoplifting, only assault.)
