I remember giving Razor Ruddock stick at Selhurst around 2000 for carrying timber. We then brought Ronnie Jepson on as sub and he made Razor look like Peter Crouch.
Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
Probably lots in the 1920s but recently Paul Stewart and Nick Pickering were a bit slobbish !

I remember Keith Treacey carrying quite a few pounds. One away game at Barnsley you could see his belly hanging over his shorts.
On here there was a bizarre debate about wether he was in good shape, with quite a few insistent that he was fine. I liked the guy, but he was fat.

None of these thank god and Adebayo Akinfenwa didn't make the cut.

Keith Tracey definitely could been in better shape as mentioned.
Peter Swan wasn't a beanpole but not sure he was fat. Still remember him vomiting coming back on to the pitch after half-time at a pre-season friendly at Stockport though!

Gerry Creaney wasn't slim
Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
Creaney's gut was immense. I remember being really excited that we'd signed a premiership striker, then totally gobsmacked when he came on for his debut. He was good though and I'm sure he scored a lot of goals for us.BertiesBeehole wrote:Gerry Creaney wasn't slim

They didn't call him 'The Beast' because he had a 30" waistband...

Paul Fletcher was never svelte.

I seem to remember Jamie Hoyland doing that on a regular basis.the_fat_shearer wrote:Keith Tracey definitely could been in better shape as mentioned.

Nick Pickering, the LINESMAN used to outrun him!
Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
Tony Waiters was a big lad. Probably not quite as big as the flying pig, Tommy Lawrence but a big unit nevertheless.

Probably McLardie who despite his girth scored 13 goals in 1891

Robbie Blake piled it on while he was sat on the bench for Leeds.

I acquired his last ever full Burnley kit, I think the whole back 4 could fit in it.Claretmatt4 wrote:They didn't call him 'The Beast' because he had a 30" waistband...

He only played four games for us and he shouldn't have played because of injury.k90bfc wrote:Nick Pickering, the LINESMAN used to outrun him!

Not sure what you think being fat is but Akinfenwa certainly isn't fat.minnieclaret wrote:None of these thank god and Adebayo Akinfenwa didn't make the cut.

He is a beast - huge - massive ....
But definitely not fat.
Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
Clearly, look at him without a shirt on he's not even close to being fat.minnieclaret wrote:

Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
A lot of people have this misconception about Akinfenwa due to a lot of press comments about how he is "too big" to play football. I think a lot of people take "too big" as "too fat" ... But it's more the fact that running around for 90 minute carrying nearly 20 stone of muscle is never ideal.KRBFC wrote:Clearly, look at him without a shirt on he's not even close to being fat.

Porkiest player I ever saw was Francis Lee and I wish I hadn't, but I can't remember Burnley ever having a portly player.
Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
Big Jon Parkin was a unit, quite a handy one too in his PNE days.

Re: Fattest player to have played for the Clarets ?
Definitely Ian Bray for me.
Remember seeing him against Stockport in the Autoglass in 1992 and he did not look like a footballer at all. The odd player before or since might have looked a couple of pounds overweight but Bray just looked like a very fat amateur that had been drafted in from the pub league.
Huge he was.
