Gray
Injured? Spurs backline immediately played 20 yards further up the pitch.......then a 20 minute gap before putting a "wide" player on to provide service to the now two big players.

He must be injured. There's no other footballing reason to have brought him off.

Re: Gray
If he is not injured then it is one very bad decision from Dyche. He had a good first half then just got dragged off. He did not look happy when benched !

Re: Gray
You take your only forward with speed off and all you do is say to the opposition,
"Right - we won't outpace any of your defenders now so you might as well push your backline further forward and put more pressure on us".
Which is what they did. So if Gray isn't injured then that's a serious head scratcher.

Watched online, No signs of an injury. Looked to be sulking on the bench after being taken off.
Very odd decision to make.

The strange decision is Dyche has decided to play the famous 6 - 2 - 1 -1 formation the last 5 games.
Crap all game. Tactics completely wrong. The sooner we have Defour an Brady in the side the better

Brought Brady in too late and played him out of position.

Might be wrong but he didn't look injured. He is our only outlet with pace up top. Vokes and Barnes are to simular and it was an easy second half for there back four.

Re: Gray
I agree. It's a head shaker, it really is. It's almost as if Dyche has thought about our play only, and never considered what Spurs would do if we brought him off. A bit of a schoolboy error.Big_Ears_BFC wrote:Might be wrong but he didn't look injured. He is our only outlet with pace up top. Re: Gray
As others have said bizarre substitution if not injured which he didn't appear to be. Completely changed the game in their favour.
Thought we held our own in the first half and were having our best spell as he took Gray off.
Also felt he needed to get both Brady and Defour on immediately when we went behind if we were to have any hope of coming back.
However great Dyche has been for us ( and he has), he has very strange ideas when it comes to substitutions.

Apparently he was arguing at Dyche's instructions and got hooked off not long after.

He could well be injured but from where I was sat there were no indications of it. He blanked Dyche on his way past then someone give him his tracksuit top which he threw to the floor. No medical staff went near him.

Re: Gray
I thought he was poor today. 1 bit of play first half where he pulled off into a nice position and delivered a decent cross. Other than that, I thought he was wasteful. Didn't hold onto the ball up top at all.
But he did make them play deeper. And the balls into him weren't exactly to his liking. I'm sure he'd be more effective with Brady and Defour in the team.
My dad thought Dyche had an eye on Tuesday, hence the substitution. I'm not sure. I wonder if there was an attitude issue

He still can't control a football, always going to be a problem in the premier league unfortunately.
We don't play to his strengths still either.....

Re: Gray
In Bob Lord stand so saw a good look at his face of thunder when he was hooked, and that was what it was
No logic to the substitution leaving us with two slow forwards who got very little for the rest of the game
And Brady out wide right again
- he looked totally lost when their players just kept showing him down the line
For all the good things Dyche does, there is no plan B

Re: Gray
Some VERY strange decisions by Dyche today! None worked out in fact the spurs defence pushed up and it gave them the initiative! We were well in the game before Gray got hooked not saying we would've won but we were doing ok.

Re: Gray
Then the notion of being hooked for giving backchat to SD might be closer to the mark. Poor management if true. Deal with it after the fact, not with petulance to show who's boss that risks changing the balance of a game

Re: Gray
Had one of his better games without scoring. Must, MUST be an injury. He caused them problems today, they were worried about him without doubt.
Not his biggest fan as you all know, but today he was very good indeed.
Said to my mate immediately, he's injured or we are going for the draw, which against a team like spurs, is extremely dangerous.
His replacement had a mare.
Baffling if he's not sustained an injury.

Certainly wasn't chasing balls down or trying to get into space.

Re: Gray
He was only poor today because of the midfield.
This is pretty much the midfield line we played the last time in the PL and it didn't work then, it certainly won't now.
Not playing Westwood, Defour and Brady is costing us. We're certainly missing JBG too.

Re: Gray
So it looks to me like he was subbed for not following orders. I think the phrase is, "Cutting off the nose to spite the face".
Dyche looks to have taken Gray off because he wasn't following orders - but what's actually happened is he's taken Gray off, Spurs have moved forward and won the game.

Re: Gray
Taking Gray off totally killed the game for Burnley. He must have had a knock.
We looked weary 2nd half and if we don't get anything on Tuesday, I fear for us. Dyche is clueless away from home and United will bury us

Seriously, I'd just prefer to wait to hear what's going on from a reputable source. Not suggesting you aren't, but Boden has been known to make the odd mistake.

Re: Gray
The game changed the moment Gray kicked off the second half.
Nothing to do with Gray more to do with Spurs.
Gray had a decent game against two very good CHs. Using his body well and his touch was OK today.
As mentioned above, I wondered if SD had an eye on Tuesdays match.

Re: Gray
Dyche admitted Gray wasn't carrying a knock: "We were seeing if we could affect it, we felt we'd tried to affect it by stretching the game, and it didn't quite work for us.
"We tried to affect it by playing a bit more robust, which worked slightly, without making those key moments, and sometimes you're only a pass away from that, and I thought they delivered that today, especially for the second goal."
From the Burnley Express, quoted by Dyche.

Interesting view, I thought Andre worked hard, harried and chased 40/60 balls. I'd even go as far to say that if he'd have remained, we wouldn't have lost this afternoon.Burnleyareback2 wrote:Didn't think he looked interested today.

Re: Gray
I think Gray has been poor most of the season. Doesnt look happy to me and maybe fancying a move to the bright lights. His basic ball control is way from PL standard. Seems to have lost a bit of pace as well. Not blaming him for today. Just saying it as I see it. Hendrick is another who is failing to deliver big time. I realize how good Marney is/was now.

Re: Gray
There are definite question marks about whether Gray''s touch will ever be good enough for this level, but I'd still have kept him on because he was giving the Spurs defence something to think about. With vokes and Barnes we're totally one dimensional, and spurs had no problem handling us once Gray went off. Serious tactical blunder.

We hardly created anything but at least he was hitting the channels giving the back four an out ball...more to football than just being a threat, vokes and barnes were as good as not there when the Spurs back line moved 20yards forwardWile E Coyote wrote:gray was dreadful, offered nothing as a threat.
