PFA Teams of the Year..

Post by hampsteadclaret » Thu Apr 20, 2017 9:28 am

PFA teams of the year: Chelsea and Tottenham dominate Premier League XI - they both have four players in that XI...Burnley FC have no players in this PFA team.

Spurs were represented by Walker, Rose, Alli and Kane.
Chelsea by Cahill, Luiz, Kante and Hazard..

- add to those, de Gea, Mane, and Harry Kane.

Brighton had 4 players in the Championship team, Newcastle United had three.

How on earth is De Gea in over Heaton. De Gea is obviously the better keeper but based on performances this season Heaton has been the best in the league.

Has the makings of an interesting thread, I mean how can anyone over look some of the premiere leagues best players just because they play for Burnley.

Shocking!

Courtois is, and has been, better than Heaton all season. And De Gea.

Isn't the criteria based on who their fellow professionals vote for? If so, you can't really argue with it. Besides, it's from a group of 30 I think so I think we had two nominees in there. Not bad from 20 clubs.

It's nothing to do with who's the best player on paper, it's about performances this season. Heaton has performed better than De Gea.

surprised alonso isn't in ahead of rose, although there is already a strong spanish presence with de gea in goal and alli/kante in central midfield.

I know statistics aren't the be-all and end-all when determining who is "the best", but in terms of percentage of shots saved, Heaton is top of the pile with 77%, followed by Lloris (75.3%) and Pickford (72.7%). De Gea is 6th (72%) and Courtois 7th (69.4%)

I heard a discussion on this recently and a large number of players don't take this seriously anyway when voting.

I always thought it was between De Gea & Courtois - they are for me the best two in the league and have shown that this season.

Heaton may well get the Football Writers Player of the Season off the back of this though.

I think it was Schwarzer, who's a former players rep I believe.

I'd have said Lloris was probably the best keeper this season.

The goalkeeper berth is a tough one to win. As biased as I am towards Tom, and as brilliant as he's been this season, there's a clear argument for De Gea, Courtois, Lloris and maybe even Pickford as well. There are some very good goalkeepers in the league. I'm just glad Tom is one of them!

I'd argue a case for Keane over Cahill maybe? But again there are others who would be worth a shout. Spurs have some quality centre halves for a start!

A defender from a midtable side over one from the Champions elect? Makes sense. Id probably had Leroy Fer and Sigurdsson in for Hazard and Kante. Oh, I almost forgot Chris Brunt and Mcauley in for Luiz and Rose.

I don't know how Alexis hasn't got in......
Alexis over Hazard for me, easily. For all Hazards world class dribbling ability he doesn't produce end product enough at all. Ronaldo scores 50+ goals a season from the same position and Hazard is lucky to hit 10.

Yes because that's exactly what I'm saying. Christ you've not half exaggerated my point and made yourself look a tad silly in the process. Let's look at the facts.

Keane is leaving in the summer for a fee likely to be £25 million plus. He's being coveted by some of the biggest clubs in the country and if he had 2 years on his contract we'd probably be looking at £40 million plus given the current market.

He's had a very strong season playing for a club that was expected to be in the bottom three come May. The fact we're mid-table is a huge achievement and Keane has played a large role in that.

He made his International debut which was applauded by supporters and pundits alike.

He's also been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Season along with this bunch... (and it's worth noting he's the only centre half to get nominated in either the full category or the Young Player category this season).

Dele Alli - Tottenham
Harry Kane - Tottenham
Romelu Lukaku - Everton
Jordan Pickford - Sunderland
Leroy Sane - Manchester City

So obviously me saying there was an argument for Keane being in the team of the season (an argument remember, not "he should be in the team", just a nod in his direction given the hugely successful year he's had) is EXACTLY like me saying Fer, Sigurdsson, Brunt and McAuley should be in the team of the season. EXACTLY the same.

What a kn0b you are sometimes.

The championship back four just sums this up.

Dunk and not Duffy? Really?
Lascelles and not Ciaran Clark? Has no-one noticed just how sh1t the Newcastle back four look when Clark is missing?
